Li Lanni lay back on the bed to calm her thoughts. Everything was rushing into her mind so fast she was finding it hard to keep up.

"Lanni?" Ji Feifei called her in a worried tone.

"Can I be alone for a few minutes?"

Ji Feifei looked at her curiously, she did not ask anything and just nodded."Sure. I'll go buy you some food. What would you like to eat?"

What would she like to eat? She did not know. What was her favourite food? She gave up thinking. "Just buy anything."

"Sure." said Ji Feifei as she made to leave.

Li Lanni realized she still wanted to ask her some questions. "Ji Feifei..." she called out.

"Lanni, I'm your sister-in-law. You should call me sister-in-law."

Right, sister-in-law. Now she had a new question. "Okay, sister-in-law. But since you are my sister-in-law, who is my husband? Why has he not come to visit me and why don't I have a ring if I'm married...." She hesitated for a while. "...or are you my brother's wife? In that case, where is my brother? What about my parents?"

Ji Feifei looked at her like she had given up on trying to reason with her. "Lanni, calm down. You will get answers to everything soon. However, you don't have a brother. You only have a mother who went to handle some matters this morning. She should be back soon."

"Then what about my husband? Who is he and why don't I remember him?"

"Well, it's a little complicated. You are married to my brother but he is quite busy these past few days. He will come to see you eventually." Ji Feifei answered.

"Okay, I'll wait then. Is the food arriving any time soon? I'm hungry." she complained in her still croaky voice as she rubbed her tummy.

"Oh! I'll go right away."

When Ji Feifei left, Li Lanni tried to recall anything she could. She could not remember many things.

To start with, she only felt like Ji Feifei was familiar but she did not feel any closenesss to her.

As for her family, the term 'husband' was very distant and unfamiliar to her. Was she and her husband in a bad relationship? Otherwise, in normal circ.u.mstances, the husband should be the one spending most time next to his sick wife, right?

Most importantly, what was his name?

Li Lanni fell asleep just trying to piece the puzzle together.

When she woke up, Ji Feifei was back. Beside her bed was a middle aged woman looking at her unblinkingly as if anticipating something. Her eyes seemed to shine brighter when she saw Li Lanni wake up and rub her eyes.

"Lanni,my baby, you're really awake. I thought Feifei was lying to me just now!" the woman exclaimed as she took Li Lanni's hand and kissed it.

Li Lanni pulled her hand back with a sense of alarm. "Who are you?"

The woman was stunned for a second before she slapped her forehead. "Ah! I'm so forgetful! The doctor said you have temporary amnesia... I'm your mother." she said.

Mother....no wonder her touch felt familiar. She helped her daughter sit up and started feeding her. Although she did not like the taste, Li Lanni ate obediently and shook her head when she was full.

Seeing that the atmosphere was increasingly quiet, Ji Feifei stood to take her leave.

Li Lanni wanted to stop her and spoke up. "Si..."

Before she even got the first word out, she was interrupted by Ji Feifei. "It's Feifei. Yes, I'm leaving. I have things to do right now. I'll come to see you again tomorrow after my class." she said.

Li Lanni furrowed her eyebrows. "Feifei"? Hadn't she told her to adress her as sister-in-law just now? Why did she suddenly want her to change it?

She decided not to think too much about such little details in the end.

"Mother, can I get out of here?" she asked her mother. It had just been a few hours and she was already bored to death.

"Sure, I'll ask the doctor if you can be discharged."

The discharge procedure went quite fast. The doctor gave her a huge amount of medicine as he wrote down numerous instructions on post its.

Li Lanni felt annoyed just listening to him ramble on.

Her mother laughted. "Oh Lanni. I know you don't like medicine but it's important for your health. We have to make sure you're alright."

She didn't like medicine? No wonder she felt terrible when she was the pile of bottles of pills and heard the endless instructions.

At last, she had found out one thing about herself that she could agree with-her hatred for medicine.
