Chapter 172 Peggy Carter’s Great Assistance

TL: Kyous

In the room filled with sci-fi sense, the remaining three revealed a bewildered expression when Fury finished speaking. However, their thoughts in their mind varied.

Peggy Carter, ‘If Fury’s words are true, then our country and world have one less danger!’

General Ross, ‘I was right about this kid, Fury. Wherever he is, he will do a great job!’

Alexander Pierce, ‘D*mn it! When did I entrust you with this mission?! And what the hell is Leader Sinthea dead?! S*it, Fury is framing me!’

Although Pierce instantly figured out everything, it wasn’t up to him to argue anymore. In particular when he entered and said “You’ve worked hard” to Fury, this sentence laid the foundation for Fury’s “truth of the matter”.

At the moment, Peggy was elated as she hurriedly asked, “Agent Fury, you said you’ve successfully eliminated the H.Y.D.R.A.’s leader, do you have any evidence?”

Fury was secretly delighted because once Director Carter asked this question, the plan was on the right track. Without changing his expression, he answered, “Naturally. Please follow me, I’ve brought back Sinthea Schmidt’s body.”

Then, the four, wait, the five of them, exited the conference room. Under Fury’s lead, they rode the elevator to the first floor.

……

Natasha was an eye-catching gorgeous lady and was rather famous in Triskelion. Especially during the period when she was frantically training, she had gathered quite a lot of loyal “fans”.

So, when she entered the first floor’s lobby with a body covered in white cloth, everyone’s attention was attracted to her.

Previously, an unlucky man’s ribs were broken by her. At the same time, the unlucky man was her fan and admirer. His name was Warden, a S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Level 2 Agent, and was in his early twenties. A good-looking young man.

When he saw Natasha, he immediately forgot the miserable state he was in when taught a lesson. He swiftly struck up a conversation, “Agent Romanoff, it’s been a while.”

Natasha ignored him and continued pushing the stretcher forward, but she silently slowed down her pace.

Facing her indifference, Warden wasn’t discouraged at all. After failing to pursue Natasha and paying two ribs as a price, he privately contacted one of his high school friends who was a womanizer. Ultimately, he received a word at the cost of a meal, “Unyielding”.

Right now, Warden was putting the essence of unyielding to work, “Agent Romanoff, do you have time for lunch later? I know a restaurant… No, the cafeteria opened a new stall and their steaks are quite nice.”

It wasn’t that he was unwilling to bring Natasha out to eat, but S.H.I.E.L.D. had a rule in which lunch must be eaten in the cafeteria. Usually, he didn’t care about this rule, but now he was secretly cursing, ‘D*mn, evil capitalism!’

Perhaps his secret art worked, Natasha frowned and said, “I’m pushing a corpse and yet you’re talking about food with me. How disgusting!”

Despite Natasha’s disdain, he wasn’t angry at all. Instead, he was pleased. Because his high school friend told him, “Don’t worry whether or not a woman likes or hates you. Once she starts saying the first sentence to you, then there will be a second, a third to the point of endless chattering the moment both of you meet.”

So, Warden seized the opportunity and asked, “By the way, Natasha, whose body are you pushing?”

This young man was rather smart and stopped bothering with disgusting topics and started calling Natasha’s name more intimately.

Suppressing the urge to beat up someone, Natasha feigned indifference and casually answered, “This is Sinthea Schmidt. Didn’t I have a mission a while ago? It was to chase after her. After two months of chasing, I’m exhausted.”

Natasha stopped before massaging her neck and lazily stretching her waist.

Witnessing Natasha.’s adorable action, Warden instantly fell in love. However, years of training courses in S.H.I.E.L.D made him constantly hear the infamous Sinthea Schmidt. Although at the moment, his brain was filled with dopamine and hormones, he hadn’t lost his reason yet. Because he hadn’t lost his reason, he suspected he had heard wrong!

Therefore, he did his best to suppress the unknown impulse in his heart and gulped before asking again, “Natasha, whose body did you say this is?!”

“Sinthea Schmidt, H.Y.D.R.A.’s leader.” Natasha repeated before continuing to push the stretcher.

Warden was a genuine S.H.I.E.L.D. agent. So, he immediately repeated loudly in excitement and disbelief, “H.Y.D.R.A.’s leader, SInthea Schmidt is dead?! Hahaha!”

His voice was extremely loud, attracting everyone’s attention in the lobby right away. Just imagine, a captive in the middle of a group of bandits suddenly yelling, “Your boss is dead!”, what kind of attention will the captive receive?

Hence, the crowd began gathering on Natasha’s side and even the guard on duty also came to join the fun. While all of them were here to join the fun, several of them were whispering to each other while pointing at the corpse underneath the white sheet. Nonetheless, the keen Natasha could discern half of the crowd was doing their best to hide their shock and malice.

Yet Warden, the man filled with love still hadn’t sensed any abnormality in the air and continued to display the essence of unyielding by asking, “Natasha, can you lift the sheet for me to peek? I only saw Sinthea Schmidt in the picture, never in real life. Even if she’s a corpse, taking a peek will be a sense of achievement for a Level 2 Agent like me.”

As soon as Warden spoke, the atmosphere became silent. However, Natasha didn’t lift the sheet but continued pushing the stretcher instead.

Seeing this, the crowd was unsatisfied. A burly white man among the crowd suddenly said, “Agent Romanoff, lift it for us. Everyone is curious.”

Someone else chimed in, “Yeah, let us have a look.”

Surrounded by the crowd, Natasha was unable to move. Some of them even impatiently reached out for the white sheet.

All of a sudden, someone yelled, “What are you doing here?! Don’t you have your work to do?! If not, then go to training! Hurry up and disperse!”

The crowd heard the familiar voice and promptly opened up a path. Some of the timid ones wished to leave, but the majority still hadn’t left, causing the time ones to halt their footsteps.

At the end of the path were Fury and the group and the one who was scolding just now was Pierce. Looking at the crowd that didn’t disperse, Pierce was infuriated! This group of people was desperately trying to confirm the death of Sinthea Schmidt to the point of ignoring their leader’s words.

At this point, Fury marched toward Natasha’s side and asked, “I thought I told you to move the body to the morgue? Why are you loitering around in the lobby? And you even attracted this much attention!”

Fury reprimanded Natasha with traces of dissatisfaction and his voice was neither loud nor soft, but enough for Warden to hear it. He was unhappy with Fury scolding his goddess, but he wasn’t dumb. Rebuking his superior right now was the thing he shouldn’t be doing at all costs.

After all, Natasha was in the wrong in the first place. If he rebuked his superior for the sake of his goddess, not only would it harm himself, but also harm Natasha more. Besides, he was blaming himself for Natasha’s mistake of not getting things done.

He reached out his hand and gripped the stretcher’s handle, he whispered, “Natasha, I’m… sorry! I shouldn’t shout just now. Come, let me help you push it to the morgue. Let’s hurry up.”

But at that moment, Peggy Carter suddenly voiced out. Seeing her take a few steps, she chuckled, “Director Pierce, Agent Fury, I find both of you amusing. Both of you are the ones who accomplished the feat of eliminating HYDRA’s leader, yet you’re trying to hide it. In particular, you, Director Pierce. You were absent from last year’s Nobel Peace Prize award! However, I’m not fond of this attitude. Although you may win in terms of personality, it won’t bring any benefits to S.H.I.E.L.D. in both cohesion and status!”
