Chapter 171 Peggy Carter

TL: Kyous

On the SUV, Sinthea’s icy cold body was on the backseats while Fury was conversing with Natasha in the front.

“Agent Romanoff, how in the hell did Leo move Sinthea’s body over? Is it… magic?” This wasn’t the first time Fury asked Natasha. Although every time the questions were different, they had the same meaning.

Natasha was slightly annoyed, “Sir, I know Leo can fly. As for how the body was flying too, I have no idea at all.” She continued, “Besides, Leo never told me where he is or whether or not he’s coming to Washington. I’m in the dark just like you. I’m the agent you dispatched over, not the messenger he dispatched, alright?!”

Fury raised his hands in resignation, indicating his understanding.

Meanwhile, the shrunk Leo was silently hiding in the gap between the car window while leisurely idling. According to their plan. He won’t be on the scene since there was a high probability that Pierce would recognize him.

However, now that he possessed the Pym Particles, he could silently tag along and improvise based on the situation. Including what he told Fury on the phone about he was in  New York. It was to misdirect Fury while increasing his mysterious image in Fury’s heart.

After some time, Fury and Natasha reached S.H.I.E.L.D. headquarter, Triskelion’s garage with Sinthea’s body.

Fury got off first and headed to the elevator while Natasha carried Sinthea’s body and placed it on the stretcher prepared beforehand. After covering it with a piece of white cloth, they patiently waited for the elevator.

She would act according to the plan, moving Sinthea’s body to the supposed place while attracting a large wave of attention.

Leo naturally followed Fury. He secretly entered the elevator with Fury and landed on Fury’s black hair, enjoying a free ride while lamenting at how fortunate Fury wasn’t bald at the moment!

The elevator reached the fifth floor and Fury gallantly walked towards a metal door on his right side. Reaching out his hand, he pressed his thumb on the fingerprint lock. The metal door automatically opened and he marched inside.

Leo entered the door with Fury and inside seemed to be a conference room. All four sides were tightly sealed but the light illuminated the entire room brightly. And the walls were covered with a dozen 30-inch LCD screens with S.H.I.E.L.D.’s logo bouncing around, having a sci-fi appearance.

Unable to resist, he sighed at how many black technologies S.H.I.E.L.D. had hidden which could be promoted for civilians. For example, the LCD screen was miles ahead of civilian display manufacturers.

In the conference room sat a man and a woman, who were chatting with each other happily. When they saw Fury enter, they stood up. Leo couldn’t recognize the man, but the man seemed to be in his fifties and a military general. At least that was what Leo got from the man’s outfits.

As for the woman, he felt she was rather familiar. Upon a closer inspection, a name abruptly popped into his head, Peggy Carter, Captain America’s lover and ex-Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. The current Peggy Carter was in her sixties and half of her hair was white, but her heroic stature remained, still carrying a hint of charm. Within her weathered eyes, the indomitable spirit was still soaring, not any weaker than men in their prime.

Compared to the two powerful veterans, Fury was still decades away whether in terms of seniority or age.

So, Fury acted in respect and gave a military salute to the general, “General Ross, thank you for coming.”

The general responded with a military salute and his voice was energetic unlike his age, “Colonel Fury, you don’t look like having a good time after leaving the army! You really should take my advice back then and developed in the army.”

The older ones are, the wise ones are. General Ross immediately perceived Fury’s suffering in S.H.I.E.L.D. Otherwise, why would he turn to his former commanding officer from the military?

Fury apologetically smiled without answering and shook Peggy Carter’s hand, “Director Carter, thank you for taking the time to come.”

Peggy nodded, showing her friendliness. A year ago, Fury’s collaboration with the army in destroying most of H.Y.D.R.A. bases in America was a huge merit. Since Hank Pym left, she resigned from her position as the director and paid little attention to S.H.I.E.L.D. in recent years, but she still heard a little bit about Fury’s feats. If not, she wouldn’t agree to come when Fury contacted her.

Peggy asked, “Agent Fury, what exactly is the reason you called me and General Ross over here today? The day before yesterday you spoke mysteriously on the phone, can you enlighten us today?”

Hearing this, General Ross also revealed his interest. Fury was a person who wouldn’t easily call in a favor. Once called, it would be a huge deal, just like demolishing H.Y.D.R.A. bases from before.

But Fury kept them hanging and replied, “Please don’t be in a rush, Director Pierce will be here soon. Once he is here, we can talk together.”

Lo and behold, when Fury finished speaking, the conference room’s door automatically opened and Pierce stormed in like a bull. As he entered, he pointed his finger at Fury and snapped, “Agent Fury, you…”

However, when Pierce saw other people in the room, especially when Peggy Carter was one of them, he was suddenly dumbfounded and instantly changed his words, “have worked hard.”

He even gave Fury a bear hug, showing his admiration and respect for Fury. But in reality, Pierce angrily whispered the words he swallowed just now, “Agent Fury, how dare you leave your duty without authorization and even send someone to harass me. Do you know you’ve violated the regulations big time?! I’ll settle the score with you later!”

When Pierce released Fury and turned at Peggy Carter, his face had a 180-degree change from anger to happiness, “Director Carter, why did you suddenly come without any notice?”

Peggy held all of the access to S.H.I.E.L.D. and she would occasionally come and take a look. Moreover, Pierce was held up by other matters, thus he had no idea about Peggy’s arrival.

The previous Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. was Peggy Carter which meant Pierce was personally brought up by her. So, she was rather familiar with Pierce as she called his name directly,
“Alexander, this General Ross, Lieutenant General of the Army.”

Pierce hurriedly greeted General Ross and Ross casually smiled in return.

Peggy added, “Agent Fury was the one who invited General Ross and me. He mentioned having something important to report to us regarding homeland security.”

Pierce’s heart shook but his face remained unchanged and asked, “Agent Fury, what important matter do you have?”

All of a sudden, Fury acted respectfully toward Pierce as he slightly bowed at Pierce before facing Peggy and General Ross, saying aloud, “Around a year ago, Director Pierce entrusted a secret mission to me…”

Hearing this, Pierce’s heart tightened, and thought, ‘Did Fury find out some clue? Or is he going to complain about me regarding his dissatisfaction with me?!’

Regardless, Pierce was convinced he didn’t spill any beans and remained calm while thinking to himself that he had to remove the problematic Fury at all costs! After today, he would remove Fury as soon as possible.

Fury was unaware of what Pierce was thinking or rather, he couldn’t care less about it and continued his act. Hence he continued aloud, “And now, I’ve followed the leads provided by Director Pierce and finally, successfully eliminated the current leader of H.Y.D.R.A., Sinthea Schmidt.”

Then, Fury even naturally placed his hand on Pierce’s shoulder, highlighting Director Pierce’s great merits.
