Chapter 28 - Herb Search

"What....?" Blake was momentarily surprised and stopped walking.

"So, you can also get missions this way... Can I do it myself?" Blake had a thoughtful expression as she c.a.r.e.s.sed her chin.

In the following minutes, she tried different methods of getting a mission. None of them worked, so she stopped trying it feeling a bit disappointed.

'Maybe it only works if I have another person to give the mission to me... I can't ask someone to do that, what if it ends up revealing my secret?' Blake quickly rejected the idea of testing it with another person.

'Let's leave this for later, I still need to search for the herbs.' Blake decided to stop thinking about this matter for now. She ran in the direction of the forest, there were also some disciples going there to complete their own missions.

Once she entered the forest and walked a distance far enough she grabbed two pokeballs, each with one hand. The pokeballs quickly expanded in size and she pointed them to the ground. As red rays of light were emitted out of the pokeballs, two figures were formed from it.

"Riolu!"

"Honedge."

"Riolu, Honedge, I'm searching for some herbs, help me find them." Both nodded and Blake began to describe how the herbs looked. After a minute of explanation, they all began their search.

The way they searched was more or less like this, Riolu circled around Blake, searching for herbs with his fast speed and sharp eyes. He wasn't far away, enough to reach Blake in around five seconds at full speed. With his aura sense, he will immediately run to Blake in case of trouble.

Honedge also helped, he was able to search in hard to enter places because he was a ghost pokemon. Ghost pokemon can pass through walls, float and hide in shadows. Honedge couldn't do this with the same easiness as, for example, a Gengar. He wasn't that kind of ghost, but he could still pass through walls that weren't very thick and could float at a height triple of Blake's size.

She didn't dare make Riolu search far away or spread up with her pokemon to search. Honedge was weak right now and if they found a strong beast he wouldn't be able to protect Blake. If she made Honedge search instead, he could end up getting lost since he couldn't feel aura like Riolu.

Time passed and the night was soon coming, Blake stopped searching and came back to the sect. They got around twenty-one herbs, most were found by Riolu and Honedge, Blake herself only found two of these...

She soon reached the mission hall, which was still busy with people taking and completing missions. She stood in line, and after over ten boring minutes of wait, it was finally her turn. As soon as she looked at the receptionist, she was slightly surprised.

'Isn't that the guy from earlier?' It was the same person who taught her how missions worked. As soon as he looked at Blake, his expression turned into a bright smile.

"Welcome back, Sister Blake! Did you complete your mission?"

"Yeah, here are the herbs." Blake waved her hand, and five Yellow-leaf herbs appeared.

"That's great! Most people aren't able to get five for the first time. Did you get lucky?"

"My luck has been pretty good recently..."

He got ten Spirit Stones from a bag and put them on the counter. Blake noticed that he didn't have a space ring.

"You don't have a space ring?"

"Yes, space rings are expensive. Few outer disciples have it." Zhao Long had an expression of yearning.

"Expensive? How much?"

"One like the one you are wearing is about 100 Spirit Stones." Blake was surprised.

"I thought a lot of cultivators had them..."

"Sister Blake must be from a wealthy family." Zhao Long thought only people that were rich since childhood treated expensive stuff like space rings like they were cheap things. In fact, Blake only treated space rings this way because they were pretty much basic stuff in novels. Also because she was from another world, so she didn't have the same common sense as the people here.

"Yeah, more or less..." She didn't bother to correct him. She put the Spirit Stones in her ring to leave.

"Thanks, Zhao Long, see you tomorrow, maybe." Blake waved to him and left in the direction of the exit.

"Goodbye!!" Zhao Long also waved back, he seemed happy about Blake remembering his name. He kept waving even after she was long gone.

*Cough*

"Hello?"

Zhao Long snapped back to reality and looked at the other people in line, who had been waiting for a long time while he wasted time chatting with Blake and waving to the air...

============================================================================

After Blake left the place, she sighed.

'Only ten Spirit Stones, huh?' Blake had her reasons for not giving all the twenty herbs. She only managed to find two herbs by herself after hours, according to Zhao Long, most disciples also don't manage to find all the five herbs the first time they do it. Following this logic, even an idiot could figure out something wrong if a cultivator of such a low stage like her just handed over twenty herbs in a single day.

Ten Spirit Stones was a lot if you consider the price on the outside world, but it wasn't that much if you compare it to the prices in the library. You have to spend a lot of time just to find 5, and that was not including encounters with dangerous beasts. You have to put in a lot of effort just to have enough to rent a technique you want for a week, and if you didn't learn it you would need to do it again.

'The life of poor disciples must be pretty rough.' Cultivators cultivated and trained their techniques a lot, having few hours of free time. Poor disciples had to spend these hours on missions, having no time to relax or have fun. Some even cultivated instead of sleeping. That's why so many servants were beaten up by disciples, they were used as stress relief.

"Outer disciples really are glorified servants..." Blake laughed a bit. She remembered reading about how outer sect disciples are glorified servants in a novel, but seeing it in real life, it was even worse than she expected. They are no different than modern Earth wage slaves.

It at least had benefits though, since you get stronger. If you one day also get out of the sect to live an average life, you would have more than enough to make you very rich. Most cultivators never return though, they keep cultivating since, for them, strength is above all.

She went back "home", to practice her technique and maybe cultivate a bit. She also had plans to try new stuff tomorrow.

She would try the pills inside the space ring.
