Chapter 17: Deleted Fingerprints

At the mention of Qu Ling’er, Assistant Liu was infuriated. “That lass was very ditzy—she slapped Yichen in the face! Yichen is so famous now, but she actually didn’t recognize him!”

Recalling the incident, Assistant Liu was furious. That was a vicious slap; it was fortunate that Yichen’s face was not hurt.

Hearing this, Bai Lang did not say anything. The elevator door opened and the two of them arrived at Luo Yichen’s floor.

When they reached Luo Yichen’s house, Assistant Liu placed his finger on the fingerprint lock and a robotic female voice said: “Verification failed.”

Assistant Liu was puzzled—he placed his finger on it again, but it still failed. He took a step back and looked at the unit number. “It’s not the wrong unit. Why is the fingerprint lock suddenly not working?”

Seeing that the door could not be opened, Bai Lang calmly pressed the doorbell. After a while, Luo Yichen opened the door.

When Assistant Liu saw Luo Yichen, he complained, “Your door is broken—I pressed on the fingerprint lock twice and it didn’t open for me!”

Luo Yichen was playing games on his cell phone. When he heard Assistant Liu’s words—without even looking up—he said, “It’s not broken. I deleted your fingerprints.”

Assistant Liu was baffled. “Why did you delete my fingerprints?”

Luo Yichen took his cell phone and sat on the sofa. “Your sudden entrance always gave me a fright.”

Assistant Liu was speechless. He had always entered suddenly in the past and Luo Yichen did not seem to be shocked at all.

Bai Lang walked over to the sofa and sat down. Looking at Luo Yichen’s serious expression as he played games, he said, “I heard from Assistant Liu that a young girl got into the wrong car last night and you even gave her a ride. Yichen, you’re not usually chivalrous. Why the sudden kindness?”

Luo Yichen asked with a poker face, “What kindness?”

Bai Lang: “…” Did he not hear a word I said?

Luo Yichen stared at the dark phone screen and said irritatedly, “In future, don’t talk to me when I’m playing games!”

Bai Lang: “…” So, my talking made him lose the game?

Luo Yichen threw his cell phone to the side. “That young girl you were talking about—we met her the night before. Assistant Liu was the one who wanted to give her a ride.”

Assistant Liu—who was helping Luo Yichen with his luggage—staggered and almost fell. How did he become the one who wanted to give her a ride?

Bai Lang looked at Assistant Liu—who stood there awkwardly, not knowing what to say.

Luo Yichen said coolly, “Recall again. Your original words were ‘you felt that it was not safe for a young lady to be in such a remote place’, so you kindly gave her a ride.”

Assistant Liu felt like a slap landed on his face. Fine, he would take the blame!

Upon hearing this, Bai Lang heaved a sigh of relief. “Yichen, it’s not that I’m against you having a love life, but your career is taking off now. You can’t be distracted by other things. Although you’ve already won a big award with your previous role, things are unpredictable in the entertainment industry. You can’t let your guard down—a scandal can ruin all your efforts. Do you understand?”

Luo Yichen glanced at Bai Lang and said with a frown, “Brother Bai, have you noticed that… you’ve been nagging a lot recently?”

Bai Lang: “…” Was he complaining that he is naggy?

“Let’s go if you’re done.” Luo Yichen said—stood up and walked out—before Bai Lang could say anything else.

Qu Ling’er went to the breakfast shop at the entrance of the neighborhood for breakfast. Before 7 a.m., she had received a message from Luo Yichen—informing her that she could return . She replied: “Brother, bon voyage.”

After leaving the breakfast shop, she went to the supermarket to buy some daily necessities before returning to Luo Yichen’s house. When she returned to the study after cleaning up the house—she suddenly saw her identity card on the table—with a Post-it note stuck to the back that said: “Stay at my house with ease. It’s not safe to stay in a hotel. Keep your identity card well and don’t lose it again.”

Only then did Qu Ling’er realize that he had in fact found her identity card—but was worried about her safety staying in a hotel—so he did not give it to her. She suddenly had a strange feeling in her heart—as if there was suddenly someone beside her, making her feel not so lonely.

Just then, her cell phone rang. She picked it up and saw that it was Qu Xinru. Her mood immediately turned sour. She did not want to answer, so she hung up. But Qu Xinru persisted and kept calling nonstop. In the end, she had no choice but to answer. “Hello!”

Qu Xinru said anxiously, “Qu Ling’er? Hurry home, something happened to Dad!”

“What happened?” Qu Ling’er frowned. Although she no longer had any expectations for this so-called father, she was still worried when she heard that something had happened to him. No matter what, he was still her father—the man her mother loved until her death.
