Chapter 18: Hospitalized

Qu Xinru said tearfully, “Dad got into a car accident and is now in the emergency room. Mom is away on a business trip and isn’t at home. Come quickly, I’m so scared…”

Qu Ling’er said, “Send me the address.”

Qu Xinru seemed to have found her pillar of strength at Qu Ling’er’s reply and quickly said, “We’re at the Shen City People’s Hospital; on the sixth floor of the inpatient department.”

Qu Ling’er hung up the phone—packed up—and took a cab to Shen City People’s Hospital. While in the cab, she called Old Leopard. “Hello, Old Leopard, do you know anyone at Shen City People’s Hospital?”

“My second uncle is a doctor there. Why?” Old Leopard asked curiously.

“Qu Xinru called me just now and said that my father had a car accident and is in the emergency room. I’m on my way now, but it will take me more than half an hour to get there. Can you ask your uncle to help me take a look?” Qu Ling’er asked.

“Alright, I’ll call him now.” Old Leopard contacted his uncle immediately; Qu Ling’er was apprised of her father’s condition in less than five minutes.

“I got the information—your father was hospitalized from a car accident this morning, but his condition isn’t very serious. Don’t worry too much,” Old Leopard said. “He’s on the sixth floor of the inpatient department now. By the time you arrive, he should be able to transfer to a normal ward.”

“Got it. Thank you, Old Leopard.” Qu Ling’er heaved a sigh of relief. Now that she knew of his condition, she was no longer so anxious.

Twenty minutes later, she arrived at Shen City People’s Hospital and went straight to the sixth floor of the Inpatient Department.

Qu Xinru had already sent her the ward number. She went upstairs—searched ward by ward—and soon found Qu Zhisheng’s ward. She knocked on the door and thought that Qu Xinru would open the door. Instead, she heard Qu Zhisheng’s voice: “Come in.”

She pushed the door open and walked in. When she saw the scene in the ward—her pupils constricted—she had been deceived!

“Where is Qu Xinru?” Qu Ling’er asked with a thunderous face. She actually believed Qu Xinru’s words. She could still put on a mask and pretend in the past; but today, she was done with that. She was more disheartened than angry—this was his father! The thought that the same blood flowed in the two of them disgusted her!

There were only two beds in the ward—and the two people in the room were not on the beds—they were standing in the ward.

Qu Zhisheng’s head was bandaged, but he looked very energetic.

Luo Xiao had rested for a few days and the wounds on his face were almost healed. When he saw Qu Ling’er, his eyes shone with lust. He looked at Qu Ling’er and thought: “Although this girl was shrewish, she was indeed beautiful. It would definitely be fun to f*ck her!” He liked her type. He had to have a taste no matter what.

Qu Zhisheng looked at Qu Ling’er with a face like thunder. “If I hadn’t been in a car accident, you wouldn’t have appeared?”

Qu Ling’er turned to leave.

“Stop!” Qu Zhisheng roared angrily.

Qu Ling’er paused for a moment. Qu Zhisheng had already walked to her side and closed the door.

Qu Ling’er coldly snorted. As expected, she really could not have any expectations of Qu Zhisheng. She calmly asked, “Just say it. Why did you lie to me?”

Qu Zhisheng’s expression froze and he said, “Qu Ling’er, I’ve raised you for several years and have done my duty to you. You’re already an adult—it’s time to repay me.”

This sounded like a joke to Qu Ling’er. “The repayment you’re talking about is selling your own daughter?”

Luo Xiao forced a smile and said, “What do you mean by selling? That sounds too ugly. We’re helping each other out—if you make me happy, I’ll fulfill your wish. Don’t you want to continue studying? Your father doesn’t let you, but I can support you to go to university!”

Qu Zhisheng nodded in agreement and persuaded, “Qu Ling’er, your Uncle Luo is sincere. Besides, I believe that he can give you a better life. That’s why I want to introduce you to him. Our family is different now—you can’t expect the Qu family to give you a better future—so it’s better to make plans early.”

“I don’t need it!” Qu Ling’er said coldly. “Qu Zhisheng, don’t go too far!”

Qu Zhisheng also lost his temper and berated, “Qu Ling’er, am I too good to you? Do you still care about me as your father? Have you forgotten what your mother said before she died? She used her life in exchange for you staying in the Qu family—is this how you repay her? Didn’t she want you to become a member of the Qu family? As a member of the Qu family, you have to share the burden of the Qu family! But, instead of that, you went and beat people up. Your Uncle Luo won’t pursue the matter. Otherwise, you’ll go to jail. You know?”
