Chapter 16: Top Manager

Qu Ling’er washed the mug and poured herself some water. Then, she washed her clothes and hung them up. When she returned to the living room, Luo Yichen had finished his shower and came out of his bedroom.

Luo Yichen glanced at the dripping clothes on the balcony and said, “Next time, just use the washing machine.”

Qu Ling’er lowered her eyes and said softly, “It’s more convenient to wash Xia Tian’s clothes by hand. Do you have any clothes to wash? I can wash them for you.”

Luo Yichen smiled and said, “No need. My clothes are already in the washing machine.”

“Alright.” Qu Ling’er nodded.

The two of them looked at each other and Qu Ling’er blushed again.

Luo Yichen said, “Why are you standing there? It’s late. Go eat something and sleep.”

“Alright. Goodnight.” Qu Ling’er nodded and said goodnight before returning to the study.

Luo Yichen looked at the lass’ hurried footsteps and smiled. He took his own cup and went to get a glass of water.

The study door was not closed. He turned his head sideways and saw the lass on the bed, unpacking her clothes.

She seemed to have felt his gaze—looked up—and saw Luo Yichen. She smiled at him and continued to unpack.

Luo Yichen walked to the door of the study and said, “The leftmost cabinet is empty. You can put your clothes inside.”

“Okay.” Qu Ling’er nodded.

Luo Yichen continued, “My flight is at 8.30 a.m. tomorrow. You’d better lock the door of the study or have your breakfast in advance. Don’t let my assistant see you.”

“Understood.” Qu Ling’er knew what Luo Yichen meant and nodded.

Luo Yichen found an access card and tossed it on Qu Ling’er’s bed. “This is the access card for the neighborhood—take it. If you need anything, go and buy. Add me on WeChat later and I’ll transfer the money to you.”

Qu Ling’er quickly waved her hand. “No need, no need, I have money.”

“You have such a bad relationship with your family, yet they still gave you money?” Luo Yichen was highly skeptical.

Qu Ling’er pursed her lips. “I… I have other income.”

Afraid that he would not believe her, she said solemnly, “I wrote a web novel last year. It’s still serialized and the income is not bad.”

Luo Yichen looked at her and nodded. “Alright, remember to tell me if there’s anything.”

Qu Ling’er nodded, touched by him. She was amazed—the two of them had only known each other for a few days, but he had already helped her so much.

“Sleep early.” Luo Yichen closed the door to the study and returned to his bedroom.

Qu Ling’er turned off the lights and lay on the unfamiliar but soft and comfortable bed. She stared blankly at the ceiling and felt an inexplicable sense of peace. She thought that she would feel uneasy in a different environment, but there was none at all. She quickly fell asleep and slept unusually soundly.

She woke up at around 6 a.m.. She remembered that Luo Yichen had said that he would be flying at 8.30 a.m.—he should be awake by now. She went out to take a look and saw Luo Yichen standing in the dining room with a glass of water in his hand.

“Good morning, Brother,” Qu Ling’er greeted him with a smile.

Luo Yichen raised his eyes. “Morning.” With that, he returned to his bedroom with the glass of water.

Qu Ling’er took the time to wash up. After cleaning up, she knocked on Luo Yichen’s bedroom door. “Brother, I’ll go out first. Tell me before you come back so that I can arrange for staggered time.”

“Mm, okay.” Luo Yichen did not come out and only replied through the door.

Qu Ling’er thought that Luo Yichen was very aloof. Although he looked only a few years older than her, he seemed very steadfast. With his looks, he would definitely be popular given the right resources. For all her rumination, she forgot to ask for his name. Afraid that she would be recognized by Assistant Liu, she purposefully found a mask and put it on before leaving. However, Murphy’s Law was at work: when she took the elevator to the first floor, she bumped into Assistant Liu—who was waiting for the elevator.

“Brother Bai, don’t worry. He’s already up—I have woken him up earlier. I’m picking him up now.” Assistant Liu was reporting to the man beside him.

Qu Ling’er looked at the two of them—quickly lowered her head—and walked out of the elevator.

The man beside Assistant Liu was the famous top manager—Bai Lang. He looked up and saw Qu Ling’er walking away hurriedly. He instinctively took another look.

Assistant Liu asked curiously, “What’s wrong, Brother Bai?”

Brother Bai stared fixedly before saying, “That young girl just now wasn’t bad.”

When Assistant Liu turned around, he only saw a back view from afar. “I guess. Her figure looks okay but I can’t see her face…”

Bai Lang glanced at Assistant Liu—ignored him—and entered the elevator.

Assistant Liu quickly followed him. Bai Lang suddenly asked, “By the way, you said that there was a young lady who got into the wrong car last time. What happened?”
