Love Is Sweeter Second Time Around

Yiu Chunxiu lay down in her bed, she thought of what had happened earlier.

Zuo Haoyang just proposed to her, it wasn't even a day since she met him yet a proposal already happened. She remembered how he smiled when she accepted his proposal. It was as if he was awarded the highest honor in military.

She should have been happy with all these things going in her life-- her family welcomed her open arms, she could finally live with her son and someone genuinely accepted her despite the fact that she had a child before marriage. She should have been happy but she felt so empty. She wanted to cry but it seems that her tears have all dried up in the last five years she had been living alone in America.

She couldn't help but think if things didn't end with Gao Yishen, she must have been happy right now. Yuntian would grow up with a father,  she would be with someone she love. Perhaps, she would also be someone who was living her dreams. She would be true to herself, if only that their relationship didn't break.

With the situation now, it was already impossible to make that happen. Gao Yishen already has a fiancé and she also has one. Gao Yishen's fiancé was even the number one socialite, they even have a child too.

A loud knock in the door disrupted her thoughts. When she looked at it, the door of her bedroom has already been opened. A man wearing a navy tailored suit. He has a distinct features-- high-bridge nose, thin lips and a dark yet warm eyes. On his arms was a little guy, sleeping soundly.

"Brother Chaun.." she muttered and suddenly stood up.

Has he been there for a long time? She was so lost in her thoughts that she didn't noticed that someone was knocking.

Yiu Chaun walked towards her and gently placed Yuntian in her bed. Yuntian showed disp.l.e.a.s.u.r.e as his little eyebrows furrowed for a second but eventually slept comfortablely again.

After seeing that Yuntian went back to sleep, her brother looked at her with worried eyes. "Yuntian was playing with grandfather earlier and fall asleep in study room," he explained. He cleared his throat and continued, "What happened earlier when you met the Zuo brat? You were too absorbed in your thoughts. You didn't even answered when I knocked the door."

Yiu Chunxiu was somewhat delighted that her third brother noticed that something was amiss in her. Of all her brothers, he was the only one who dotes and pampers her. The two was stolid when it comes to their emotions due to the nature of their work.

She smiled and answered, "Nothing actually happened."

Her brother looked like he didn't believed her at all. His eyes were still questioning her.

He sighed, "Liar. Tell me what happened."

She took a deep breath and faked a smile. She lifted her left hand to show the engagement ring in her middle finger.

She looked at her brother who was stunned at the sight, "Zuo Haoyang proposed to me earlier."

Yiu Chaun furrowed his eyebrows, "That brat proposed to you on the second day of your meeting?" He pinched his glabella. "That guy was too cheeky because our families have close ties. I'm gonna talk to him later."

Yiu Chunxiu's eyes widened, she suddenly was alarmed. "Br-brother you don't need to! I gladly accepted his proposal so it's fine."

It was a lie, of course. Although she knew that her brother already seen through her emotions, she still tried to lie.

He let out a bitter smile and said, "You don't need comply to everything just because our family wants it." He paused, "I miss the old you who would go against our family when you didn't like something or when you want something."

She suddenly remembered her last year in high school. She applied for the university her parents wanted her to attend however she listed architecture instead of medicine for her preferred course. Because her family had deep ties with military and medicine, these two were suppossed to be her top priority in choosing her major and nothing else. But she decided to follow her dreams. When her family found out about it, she was driven out of their house. Even though her brother's business was still green that time, he supported her financially. It was only after a year that her family decided to support her and it was also because of her third brother's convincing power.

However, a year after that, she became pregnant with Yuntian. That was enough proof to her family that she had chosen a wrong path when she disobeyed them.

She was in daze that she didn't noticed that her brother already in front of the door, facing his back, she saw that her brother was wearing a customized business suit. She recognized it as his lucky suit.

"Brother, do you have something important this afternoon?" She asked absent-mindedly.

Yiu Chaun turned and grinned, "Oh? You still remember that this is my lucky suit?"

She was amazed how her brother can easily changed mood, just a minutes ago her brother's eyes flashed disappointment and now it was gleaming like a diamond put under the sunlight.

She nodded, "I remember that you only wear this during life-or-death presentation. That's what you said before."

He placed his hands on his chin and started to stroke it, "I have important proposal to Gao Corporation later. CEO Gao Yishen would be present so I wore my lucky suit. If it goes well, this will be a huge step for my company." He explained and had a proud look.

Yiu Chunxiu was stunned, as she didn't how should she react. Why does it seem that fate was getting them closer and closer? She wanted to avoid him at all cost.

If her brother met Gao Yishen..

Fright flashed her eyes. Her face went pale as her hands trembled.

No! Nobody should know about her secret! Even if it was her brother.

When Yiu Chaun saw that his sister's face, he was puzzled. "What's wrong?" He asked in worried tone and walked back to her. His hand touched Yiu Chunxiu's forehead to checked if she had a fever.

When he noticed that there was nothing wrong with her temperature, he was even more puzzled. Why did her sister suddenly became pale as if she had seen a ghost?

Yiu Chunxiu slowly looked up to her brother who was standing in front of her. She cracked her brain in order  to think of an excuse, "I was just worried that President Gao might not like your presentation. What if it will become the downfall of your efforts in your company?"

The worried look in Yiu Chaun's face disappeared and laughed at her sister, "Do you have no confidence in your brother? I would surely get them approved my proposal!" he said proudly.

She heaved a relief sighed internally. Thank God her brother didn't suspect anything!

He walked out of her room then stopped at her door, as if he forgot something. He turned around and said shamelessly, "Little sister, your brother has to go on a ball this friday. You need to accompany this brother in the ball. It's organized by capital government to thank those who worked hard for the city. Although it was mostly composed of business tycoons, there would be some aristocrats there too." He explained, "You won't let your brother show up there alone right? You'll go with me, right?"

Yiu Chunxiu raised her eyebrows, "Why do I need to accompany you? You can just pick any woman you want if you want a date. Does it need to be me?"

There were millions of girls who d.e.s.i.r.e her brother, why would she need to accompany him?

He smiled slyly, "Well, girls would expect something from me if I bring them into the ball. Also, you'll be married off soon. You'll need to know people in the socialite circle as you will become the future matriach of your husband. If you won't take this opportunity, when do you think you can get a chance to be acquainted to them?"

She wanted to puke when she heard her brother's reason. It's no wonder that he became a sucessful businessman. He was so cunning!

She shook her head, she couldn't refute what her brother had said because it was true She needed to make her existence known in the socialite. She couldn't stay hidden from these obligations forever. "Fine. I'll go with you."

When she saw how her brother smiled from ear to ear, she couldn't help but feel that she was deceived.

"I had already ordered a dress. Go to the address tomorrow I will send to you so if there is any problem with the fitting, they could still adjust it." As soon as he finished with what he had said, he stormed out of her room.

Wasn't she too doted by her brother? At the same time, he was also shameless!
