Law Of Creation

Chapter 55 - Hired at The Mercenary Guild

"Oh! You can read write and count? Good, come with me!" The red-haired woman was pleasantly surprised and dragged Mingyue into the second floor of the Mercenary Guild.

After that small accident, that poor receptionist was saved by the nearby mercenary that was present at the Mercenary Guild. But the unfortunate thing was the red-haired woman made the poor receptionist to fill the receptionist's desk while she was talking with Mingyue.

[No wonder. It turns out that the earlier receptionist was a temporary receptionist. No wonder his attitude was kind of weird.] Mingyue muttered with a low voice, but the red-haired woman could hear her words.

"Yup, yup, that's right. There is no need for you to concern someone like him. Ah, we have arrived."

Both Mingyue and the red-haired woman were standing in front of door. Mingyue thought that the red-haired woman would knock the door politely, but unexpectedly she kicked the door open. She was too similar to a thug.

"Yow master, we got a receptionist's applicant." The red-haired woman said it loud to someone while hiding Mingyue with her body.

Since Mingyue didn't know what happened, she just followed the red-haired woman's instruction.

"Oh Wu Mei, I told you many times to not kick the door. We can't afford to repair everything you destroyed, you know?" There was a pleading voice in that person's word.

"Don't be so stiffed, we are an old friends, right? Ha ha ha." The red-haired woman moved forward a few steps closer while pulling Mingyue along.

From her position, Mingyue could see the interior of the room.

[It is very similar with reading room in the house. But there is a couches and small desk near the door. It is like a multipurpose room.] Mingyue muttered silently while looking at her left and right.

It was a simple room but filled with many things like paper, paper, and paper. The only free space was the couches at the side.

Putting down his glasses and holding his forehead, the man didn't get angry and only sighed. "And? Where is this applicant you found? Don't tell me another mercenary?"

Wu Mei didn't answer and only shook her head.

". . . Ah, at least you didn't do something weird. Okay, show me to the applicant."

Nodding her head, Wu Mei smiled and pulled Mingyue forward.

"Tadaa! See, this girl is so cute, right? This is the kind of receptionist we definitely need! She will attract a lot of girls."

". . . Don't tell me you kidnap her. . ." The man was kneading his forehead because of Wu Mei.

Now Mingyue could see the man in front of her. A thin middle-aged man without any beards. Unlike the poor receptionist, Mingyue could see that his body was more delicate. His desk was very neat and orderly, even though there is a big stack of papers on the side. This person in front of Mingyue was more suitable to be called as a receptionist rather than that poor male receptionist.

"No, of course not. I am a law-abiding citizen, you know?" Wu Mei rolled her eyes to the Guild Master's accusation.

"Heck, if you are a law-abiding citizen, then I am the king!" The Guild Master retorted strongly.

"You? A king? Seriously? Not a wimp?" Wu Mei snorted back at the Guild Master.

"Sigh. I will definitely lose if I continued to bicker with you. Let's return to the discussion. You said that this child is the applicant? You didn't bring the wrong applicant, right?" The Guild Master refocused on Mingyue's matter.

Mingyue nodded to the capability of the Guild Master to control the conversation even if he was losing in the word-fighting.

If the Guild Master knew what Mingyue just thinking, he would definitely knead his forehead again while saying, 'It's better for me to finish my piled-up papers than bickering with this troublemaker.'

Nodding her head intensely, Wu Mei excitedly introduced Mingyue, or it should be.

"Yeah, yeah. I am not wrong. Her name is. . . eh. . what is it?" While looking at Mingyue.

The Guild Master only shook his head by Wu Mei's antics.

In order to save Wu Mei from embarrassment, Mingyue introduced herself.

"Nice to meet you, and this should be our first introduction, I believe. My name is, eh, just call me Yue. I am properly ten years old. I have the capability to read, write, and counting. So, I should be able to do some miscellaneous job here." Mingyue decided to make a proper introduction because she didn't wish to be rejected.

[If I was going to be rejected, then what should I do to get an identification?]

After hearing a proper introduction, the Guild Master was clearly surprised. He didn't expect a proper introduction from this unkempt little child.

The Guild Master immediately stood up and put his right hand to his left c.h.e.s.t, and said, "Ah, I am sorry for my late introduction. I am Yao Shuren, the Guild Master of this Mercenary Guild in the Green River City. You can call me guild master or Shuren. Just don't call ma Yao." while bowing his body a little.

[Wooaah, it was my first time seeing such a proper introduction.] Mingyue was surprised in her mind.

Even though Mingyue had learnt about etiquette and mannerism, she didn't have the chance to show what she had learnt. This was the first time Mingyue used a proper mannerism, and surprisingly the Guild Master replied in the same manner.

"Oh, if you didn't like the Yao family, just don't use your surname." Wu Mei interrupted the Guild Master.

The Guild Master only shook his head and said, "My mother gave me this name. Even if I don't like my surname, I won't throw it."

Mingyue could feel the melancholy feeling from the Guild Master's words.

[Hm? Yao? Yao from four big families?] Mingyue was a little surprised as she remembered the four big families.

"Let's continue our conversation. Please sit down on the couch." The Guild Master moved to the couch near the door. Wu Mei pulled Mingyue to sit together while rubbing Mingyue's cheeks.

"Hm. . So you could read, write, and counting. Is that right?" The Guild Master was brewing something in a pot.

Mingyue nodded her head.

"Based on your young age, then you should have studied in the Academy? Ah, sorry we don't have many things to serve for our guest." The Guild Master brought out three cups from the cupboard.

After hesitated a little, Mingyue answered with another nod.

Chuckled a little, the Guild Master continued, "No need to be so vigilance. Well, it is good to understand to be vigilance, but what I want to say is, we are not interested in your past."

"That's because your question is so mean" Wu Mei interject the Guild Master while glaring at him.

The Guild Master could only smile wryly after being glared by Wu Mei. "Ah, that's not what I mean. Let me explain it a little. Academy, a place where all people could receive the education fairly without any additional fee. If someone was outstanding, they could continue to study at the Academy. It is a wonderful place."

Mingyue nodded since that what she knew about the Academy.

"But remember it. Those people could only receive their education if they could arrive at the Academy, the Star Royal City." The Guild Master didn't smile when he said these things.

Mingyue was surprised because she understood what the Guild Master wanted to convey to her.

"How many people couldn't afford for the transportation to Star Royal City? Don't forget, as a Royal City, they would have a high price for everything. For many people below average couldn't even think about the Academy."

"Even if they could afford it. How many danger that they had to go through? Beast, Fierce Beast, climate, bandits, robbery, and even some people were kidnapped for slavery. And their number every year was high."

"And in the end, the Academy was almost exclusively an education institute only for Star Royal City and the cities around it. Ah, and also those from dominant and big families."

"In the end, the number of the people who went to the Academy reach 1% of the total population of young people in the Fire Kingdom. It is a messed-up system." The Guild Master finished his nagging as he closed his eyes.

Mingyue fell in silence. She didn't think that the reality was very hard. She couldn't say that she had a good experience at the Academy. But she felt that the people who were unable to enter the Academy were very unfortunate.

[There was a free education, but they couldn't reach the place. So, whose fault it is.]

Suddenly Mingyue remembered some of her grandfather, Xia Longyu's grumbling.

'The Academy was instated by the previous king's hard work. But before he could reap what he sowed, he fell and the throne was taken by the current good-for-nothing king.'

Seeing the sudden silence from Mingyue, Wu Mei hugged her and reprimanded the Guild Master, "Hey! No need to give a heavy topic to a little girl. Don't you see how scared she was?"

The Guild Master could only smile wryly while scratching his head.

"Okay, let's forget about those talks. About being the receptionist. It is not an easy job, even Wu Mei couldn't fully handle her job. Well, she is doing her job very well, but the amount of work that has to be done is too much."

"I don't know anything since all I know was only reading, writing, and counting." Mingyue answered truthfully.

"Hmm. . . . " The Guild Master clearly hesitated, but Wu Mei interjected him before he could say anything.

"Just let her be with me! She should be able to handle a few things. And most importantly, I wanted her to sit on the receptionist's desk together with me! She can handle some job request from mercenary. And of course, I won't let her alone!" Wu Mei's eyes glittered. Even the Guild Master could only smile wryly from seeing her response.

"Er, that's her proposal. Are you interested?" The Guild Master asked the question directly to Mingyue. He understood that he couldn't reason with Wu Mei, so he would rather ask the little girl in front of him.

"Un. As long as I can work, I will get the identification, right?"

"Ah?" The Guild Master clearly was baffled while Wu Mei was laughing so hard.

"Okay, that's it. You should prepare some doc.u.ment for her while I bring her to take a bath. I will return to my inn first. She should be able to work immediately." Wu Mei made the decision and immediately pulled Mingyue out of the room.

[Aih. . . In the end, we still need more applicants.] The left alone Guild Master kneaded his forehead again.
