But it proved that He Lixue's worries were unfounded. She had been to marketplaces often in her past life, and even now, after her rebirth, had she gone to markets to buy groceries.

He Lixue gaped in astonishment. She had expected many things, but this was not one of the scenarios that had played out in her mind.

"So useful!" she exclaimed happily. "If I knew that bringing you out to shop would cause such a scene, I would have brought you long ago."

Lu Nanfeng was also somewhat stunned. He had not expected that he would have such a significant influence on the common people, but he could not help but smile dotingly when he saw He Lixue's genuine happiness.

The two went from stall to stall, and He Lixue was buying the groceries she needed, at the same time, she was given a few extra apples, or other goodies because the old ladies all found Lu Nanfeng incredibly attractive.

The longer they were at the marketplace, the bigger the smile on He Lixue's lips became, and her eyes turned into crescent moons in happiness. She loved being gifted free things.

After finishing the shopping, He Lixue and Lu Nanfeng slowly made their way back to the flat, where He Lixue began cooking. She was humming a song as she was slowly preparing the ingredients, her mood was good, and she felt that her current lifestyle, the lifestyle where she did not need to do anything illegal, was excellent. She was incredibly grateful to Lu Nanfeng for having helped her as he did.

As He Lixue was busy cooking, Lu Nanfeng was seated in the sitting room with a laptop on the table and doing a few reports from work. Although he was not at work, there were always things that piled up for him, and he had to take any waking moment trying to get everything under control.

The Fenghuang Group was much more than what people saw on the surface. It had numerous companies attached to the group itself, but then came all the daughter companies and the hidden companies. There were also some more shady dealings that could never see the light of day.

But although they had some shady dealings, Lu Nanfeng was certain that he would not allow anyone to question his morals. He was not doing anything that was outright illegal; he just walked a grey line.

Although He Lixue and Lu Nanfeng were doing their own things, both of them felt at peace and comfortable with each other around. It was as if they just belonged together like this.

When He Lixue finished cooking, she took her things and went to the dining table. There were three dishes and a soup, nothing too fancy, but enough for two people to eat varied.

Lu Nanfeng could smell the food, and he stopped what he was doing before he went to He Lixue's side and sat down.

The two of them were in pleasant conversation and ate together, their hearts felt full, and their lips both carried a hint of a smile.

But while Lu Nanfeng and He Lixue were casually having fun together, Di Zhiqing and Lin Xulian were together at the Lu Mansion.

Di Zhiqing had been thinking all day about He Lixue, and she found her to be quite okay, but she could still not accept her; even so, her heart did not feel disgusted with her as she had initially thought.

However, before she could think too much about it, Lin Xulian came to her door. Lin Xulian was full of aggrieved tears, and her makeup was running in just the right way to make her seem pitiful but not ugly.

"Xulian, dear, what is wrong?" Seeing Lin Xulian so devastated, Di Zhiqing was shocked and quickly went to her side to take her arm and lead her inside to sit down.

"Aunt Di, I think that I have no chance with Lu Nanfeng any longer," she cried heart-wrenchingly. "I heard that he spends every day together with a little girl and that he pampers and spoils her. If he is already in a relationship, I do not want to become a third party. But I cannot let go of my feelings for him, Aunt Di, what do you think I should do?"

Lin Xulian had no intention of actually letting go of Lu Nanfeng, but she knew that Di Zhiqing spoiled her the most, so she decided to try and hear some more information about He Lixue from Di Zhiqing.

She was very well aware that Lu Nanfeng had cast all his attention on this He Lixue, and she also knew of her past, but why would this man ever cast his focus on such a small girl? She had nothing that her, Lin Xulian, did not have!

Di Zhiqing frowned when she heard Lin Xulian's words, and wondered what to say.

She had indeed seen He Lixue today, but she had not tried to get to know her. She could not very well tell her that He Lixue was an absolutely beautiful woman, that her son was extremely protective of her, and that they spent a lot of time together every day? That would be the same as breaking Lin Xulian's heart, and she could not do so.
