Forsaken By Love

He Lixue looked at Di Zhiqing curiously as she walked away. She was deep in thought.

Although what Di Zhiqing said was full of hostility, she could see the conflicting emotions in her eyes, and she could sense that this mother just wanted what she thought was best for her son.

As to why she thought it was best for her son to not be with her, it was no wonder. She was now a civilian. She had no background or any benefits to bring Lu Nanfeng, so what she could give him was lacking.

But He Lixue did not believe that friendsh.i.p.s and relationsh.i.p.s depended on benefits. Although she found that one had to give back as much as one got was a fact, she did not think that it was all about the monetary value of things.

"Did my mother say something bad to you?" Lu Nanfeng asked worriedly when he saw how He Lixue was deep in thought as she looked at his mother vanishing into the distance.

"No, don't worry. I think she is very concerned about you," she said smilingly. Although she was not pleased with what Di Zhiqing had said, she had to admit that she had done it out of love for her son. She was a bit overbearing and not considerate at all, but she could sense that although Di Zhiqing was trying to harden her heart, she did not actually dislike her.

Since she did not dislike her, it was evident that she had no reason to complain about her either.

He Lixue recovered her gaze and looked at Lu Nanfeng. "Are you sure you want to eat at my place tonight?" she asked smilingly, returning to the topic they had talked about on the phone previously, and forgetting about the mother who had appeared out of nowhere.

"Yeah," Lu Nanfeng was certain. He really liked eating He Lixue's food, and he knew that she was a master at cooking both eastern and western food now so that he could enjoy home-cooked meals instead of restaurant food every day.

"None of those weird business meetings tonight?" He Lixue continued to ask, and Lu Nanfeng, who had long since gotten used to her finding the business meetings weird, just shook his head.

"I will give you all my attention tonight," he promised, causing He Lixue to laugh out loud. Her sound was like a soft and gentle bell, pleasant to the ear, and making one intoxicated by listening to it.

He Lixue grabbed Lu Nanfeng's arm, and together, the two of them entered the elevator, before they went to the bas.e.m.e.nt where the car was parked.

Here they went to find Lu Nanfeng's car, and together they drove to Golden River's Estate.

By now, the car was let in without any problems, the guards took Lu Nanfeng as a resident of the area, and He Lixue never corrected them.

As they entered the flat, He Lixue quickly found two sets of slippers, took Lu Nanfeng's jacket, and went to the kitchen.

This lifestyle had become a common occurrence for them. Although they were not living together, they were often together after work, and Lu Nanfeng often came to her apartment, where he would make himself at home while she cooked dinner.

At some point, Lu Nanfeng had tried to help with the food, but He Lixue had quickly realized that he had absolutely no skill when it came to cooking food. Hence she quickly chased him out.

"Brother Nanfeng," He Lixue called out as she left the kitchen. "I have no more meat in the fridge; I need to go to the market place and pick up some groceries. Do you want to stay here or come with me?"

Usually, He Lixue had her fridge stocked with food, but for once, she had forgotten to buy new products, so she was stuck with only a few vegetables.

She really had to go shopping.

"I'll go with you," Lu Nanfeng said smilingly. He had never gone shopping before, but he was quite eager to see what it was like to go to a market together with her. This lifestyle of spending so much time together was truly enjoyable. Even after weeks, he could never get enough.

In the beginning, Lu Nanfeng had thought that he only had a bit of interest towards He Lixue, that after enough time, it would vanish, but now he knew that the more time he spent with her, the less he felt it being enough. He wanted more!

He Lixue was unaware that Lu Nanfeng was getting greedy for her attention and time, she just had only one friend, and she enjoyed spending time together with him.

The two of them changed their shoes, picked up their jackets, and went to the car. The market was not too close to the Golden River Estates, so they took the car there. Otherwise, they would have to take a taxi.

As they arrived at the marketplace, Lu Nanfeng was stunned by the sheer amount of people that were present. All of them were pushing to get around, and Lu Nanfeng's face turned dark when he looked at them.

He could not imagine having to push his way through such a crowd, but looking at He Lixue's excited expression, his face softened.

He Lixue grabbed Lu Nanfeng's hand in his and looked at him with her bright eyes as she explained earnestly. "Going to the market here is like going to a battlefield. We are the soldiers, and cannot afford to be separated, so let me hold your hand while we go!"

Although He Lixue often grabbed his arm and held it, this was holding hands, it was quite different, but the feeling was also immensely satisfying. The feeling of having her small palm within his big hand was as if he held the world's greatest treasure.
