Executor Of Justice

Chapter 17 - The Revenge of the Kobold

Inside a command tower in the outpost base, an imperial officer was sitting on his chair, monitoring for any suspicious movement on the base through the monitor screen. There has been nothing today, so he chilled and relaxed for a bit, only to be disturbed by few beep sounds.

"Please tell me it's not a phone call..."

He gazed up to the screen to find a large kobold unit marching towards the outpost base. It raised many kobold flags to the sky, declaring war against the outpost. He can see a few kobolds putting their horn trumpet on their mouth, ready to blow it anytime.

'Why does this have to happen at my shift?'

Pressing the emergency button near his desk, the alarm went out shortly. He turned on his microphone and said: " Warning! This is not a drill. I repeat this is not a drill. We are under attack by the Kobold. All units please report to your designated battle stations."

The announcement took aback the Commanders that were discussed in the meeting room, they turned off the Hologram projector and walked to the command center room. Inside the command central room, they can see many military soldiers sitting on a desk and some officers supervising their work. A big panel screen was displaying the might of the Kobold Army, the largest Kobold they have ever seen was moving with a big red metallic throne that was hovering on the ground.

Yesterday evening, the Kobold Monarch had received the report of what had happened to the two royal kobold knights. The puny humans undoubtedly defeated them, this wounded the kobold's pride and all the kobolds demanded that the monarch take personal action against the human. Like the Monarch, he could not refuse the fact that those weaklings and cowards defeated them. He had seen countless times where human soldiers abandoned their post and even use their underlings as meat shields, disgusting. He commanded the whole kobold army to be mobilized the next morning.

The imperial soldiers were on their Battle stations, raising the shields, manning up the turrets and taking aim with their modern automatic rifles on the defense wall. They know this might be their last stand, but they can't go back, if they do, many innocent civilians would die. At first, the soldiers were scared, but upon being motivated by their charismatic imperial commanders, their morals rise like the sun. This was the true might of the Imperial Army, their endless storm assault that has brought fear to the hearts of their enemy, not even a single human was unaffected.

They blew the war horn after the kobold's marching came to a momentary stop. The Kobolds began rushing to the gates, using the ones in front as cannon fodders. The kobold was being bombarded by waves of artillery and explosions. Yet, there seems to be more of them coming, it is most likely that the kobolds deployed most of their army to destroy this outpost. The kobolds eventually reached the gates and began barging in. The soldiers shot the ones that managed to get close and used their bayonets if necessary. Military droids were used as meatshields in the frontline. It helped in reducing the number of casualties and to stall time for reinforcement. No nearby outpost could dispatch their force to assist them right now because if they do, it will leave it open to ambushes. They need to buy time for reinforcements from Central Command.

Back at the Command Tower, the Commanders were in a disarray. They've never faced a large attack scale on an outpost before, they didn't know what to do. Luckily, the Regimental Commander was able to handle the situation well and lay down key defense plans to repel the enemy attack. The kobolds were dumb enough to believe they were safe after capturing a few zones, only to find the place continuously exploding and surprised by the appearance of imperial soldiers shooting them down from the tower and the higher walls. The kobold archers began shooting back at them with their bows and arrows, hitting some of the soldiers in the head and vital organs. While it was only a traditional weapon, their powerful muscle makes up for it. Many kobolds, however, failed to retaliate and either die in the flames or by the storm of bullets. The combat tanks and artillery were effective at disorganizing the kobold's formation but it didn't do much in doing the final blow to the enemy since due to their flexibility, the monsters were able to survive by a small distance. The battle was hot and both sides received heavy casualties. Neither side would give up as there was only one goal in mind, total domination over the enemy. This was the only path for survival, peace is nothing but a bitter lie. There are not enough resources for everyone to share with. Only the strongest deserves it here.

Near a destroyed combat tank that was still smoking out flames, there stands several figures having a melee duel showdown. Hector and the others were engaging the Kobold Lords, who were a league above the regular soldiers. The Kobold Lords, while not injured, were exhausted already, in contrast with Hector's team's condition. The majestic Cape of the Kobold Lords has already torn apart with their armor showing battle scars from the fight earlier. The 2 BP level gap didn't prove to be a huge difference for the Holy Warriors as their intellectual was much higher than the monsters. Just when they were about to continue clashing their swords and shooting their projectiles, a loud sound echoed throughout the field, causing all the monsters and humans to shiver in fear.

The giant kobold monarch then proceeds to walk slowly towards Hector as the loud footsteps rumbled throughout the land.

"So you are the acclaimed Executor? This fight seems to be drawn to long. How about this? Fight me in a contract duel."

"A contract duel?"

"You must be recently appointed to not know about this. The winner takes all that belongs to the loser. Simple as that, now we shall commence the duel."

The kobolds didn't doubt their Monarch's strength so they all paused their attack and sit idle to watch the show. The soldiers didn't dare to question the authority of Hector and they didn't seek death either. They were however confused about what language they are speaking. The Command Tower receives news of this information and began matching it with any ancient languages. One of the liaison officers relayed the news to the Regimental Commander.

"Sir, we are unable to find any text matching the conversation."

"Are you saying it is something we don't know?"

"Most likely. I believe we should ask the Special Agent."

"Ask the Special Agent? Forget it, they have their own secrets. When the time comes, they will share it with us. Continue to monitor the battle and order the units to stay away from it. Gather the commanders for an emergency meeting."

"Yes, Sir!"

Inside a small camp, Regimental Commander Joseph and Brevet Battalion Commander Etheyln were discussing their next course of action with the other Commanders. Naturally, their ideas would be taken into account, but the current situation made them panic and destabilize their minds. A Monster Monarch had never personally led an assault on a small base, this was out of their calculations. Joseph sighed as he looked at the faces of the so-called brave heroes of the Empire. It seems like there was still nepotism in the Empire, the Security Bureau might need to clean it up. His body was already old and no longer suitable to lead in the frontline, he could only count on the young woman Ethelyn.

"Brevet Commander Ethelyn, you will lead the frontline unit to engage the lesser monster and cooperate with any assistance the Special Agent may require. The rest of you lots can begin organizing the reserve units and prepare the evacuation procedure in case this base is lost. I will be staying at this post till the very end. If there are no questions, you are dismissed to carry out the order."

The Commanders gave a salute to Joseph before walking out of the camp. They learned their mistake that they shouldn't have used their connections to rank up too quickly, their inexperience will now cause the Empire to lose one of its most invaluable commanders.

Alone inside the tent , Joseph was talking to the local Duke, Pallius using the hologram messenger. They were both close friends back at the military academy and were likable by the people.

{My friend, you don't have to do this. Come back here, I will put in good words to the King. You know he favors the both of us.}

{You know that won't solve the problem. If I leave now, I'm afraid...}

Clack!

The Duke smashed his table, breaking his teacup in the process.

{Those idiots, if only it was monitored properly this wouldn't have happened...}

{It's not like we can do anything about it.}

{Please, I beg you to reconsider. My son is eager to meet you, he's been locking himself in the room saying what a horrible father I am.}

{There's nothing I can do about that.}

Beep. Beep. Beep...

The communication transmitter was stopped manually by Joseph.
