“…”

Shu Nian looked at the chat records between the two of them and felt like they were two people who didn’t know how to talk, got together and started talking incoherently.

Shu Nian just thought he might be too tired. Although she felt that it was a little silly, she didn’t comment on what he said:【 It’s late, go to bed. 】

Coincidentally, as Shu Nian exited out of the chat room, she happened to notice that Lin Qiqi had sent her a new WeChat message. She clicked on it to see what it was.

Lin Qiqi:【 ???? 】

Lin Qiqi:【 I just found out that you didn’t reply to me before. 】

Lin Qiqi:【 Why didn’t you reply? 】

Shu Nian scrolled up and found that in addition to the Happy New Year messages that the two had just sent to each other, the messages sent to her by Lin Qiqi on the first day she went to Xie Ruhe’s house to record the song was also there.

At that time, Shu Nian felt really embarrassed and didn’t reply to her straightaway. Later, when she was free, she forgot about it because no one reminded her.

Shu Nian felt a little guilty and briefly explained the situation to her.

Lin Qiqi didn’t bring up the topic again:【 By the way, I want to go to an audition in two days but I don’t want to go alone. Would you like to go with me? 】

Shu Nian:【 An audition? 】

Lin Qiqi:【 Yes, I saw it on Weibo. There is a web drama recruiting new actors. I want to give it a try. 】

Shu Nian:【 Do you want to turn to the big screen? 】

Lin Qiqi:【 It’s not that I want to turn to the big screen. I just want to give it try since there’s an opportunity, otherwise, I’ll just be doing hard work and earn little money. I think my appearance isn’t bad either so I want to try. 】

Lin Qiqi:【 You too, you’re not ugly yourself, let’s go together. 】

Shu Nian:【 I’m not suitable. 】

Lin Qiqi:【 What do you mean by not suitable? Just go and try it, you don’t even need to spend any money. 】

Shu Nian continued to refuse her:【 I don’t want to, sorry. You should find someone else to accompany you. 】

Lin Qiqi didn’t try persuading her again:【 Okay. 】

Shu Nian could sense that Lin Qiqi was a little unhappy but she didn’t take it to heart.

They were unfamiliar with each other; they couldn’t even be considered ordinary friends. Although it wasn’t too good to refuse like this, Shu Nian was more worried about her safety.

But on the other hand, she was really only interested in dubbing.

" "

At noon the next day, Deng Qingyu called and asked Shu Nian to come over for a meal during the holiday. However, Shu Nian already had plans and she said the truth: “I want to go see dad.”

Deng Qingyu was silent for a moment on the other end of the call, then she said: “I’ll go with you.”

Shu Nian shook her head: “No need, I’m just going to chat with him.”

Deng Qingyu asked: “Then will you come here at night?”

Shu Nian hesitated but still said: “I won’t, I’ll pay a visit later.”

Deng Qingyu sighed but she didn’t force her: “Okay, remember to eat then.”

Shu Nian hummed and said goodbye.

Shu Nian’s father, Shu Gaolin and Deng Qingyu divorced the year she entered junior high school. Since then, Shu Nian had been living with Deng Qingyu. Compared to her mother, Shu Nian favoured her father more and had always liked to cling to him since childhood.

There were many things that she was only willing to say when Shu Gaolin came back home.

Deng Qingyu had been very strict with her since she was a child and she wasn’t allowed to do a lot of things. Shu Nian’s confidence came from Shu Gaolin. She always felt that whatever he said was right.

Even if her mother thought that she had done something wrong, as long as she did what her father taught her then Shu Nian, like a diehard fan, would never feel that she had done anything wrong in the first place.

But that confidence vanished in her freshman year of university.

Shu Gaolin was a firefighter who died in a disaster relief five years ago. At that time, she had just entered university and because of the bad news, she lost a lot of weight and became quiet and dull.

Her mood was consistently low for a long time before she finally cheered up. It was still a tragic event but she was also very proud of what her father had done.

Later, when she was in her third year of university, Deng Qingyu remarried.

She married a man called Wang Hao who was also divorced and had a child of his own. Wang Hao’s child was ten years younger than Shu Nian and he was a boy.

Shu Nian didn’t object to Deng Qingyu’s decision to remarry and felt that everyone should be able to choose their own lives. Because of her, her mother had stayed single for many years before meeting a suitable man so it was a happy occasion.

They were going to be a new family with their own children in the future.

Because of that thought, Shu Nian didn’t want to follow Deng Qingyu anymore.

She would only feel superfluous and probably make Uncle Wang Hao feel uncomfortable too.

Shu Gaolin was buried in Ruchuan’s Martyrs’ Cemetery.

Shu Nian was very familiarly with where the burial site was and she spoke to him for a while. She told him what happened recently, what made her happy and what made her unhappy. She revealed all of those to him without any concealment.

It was unknown how long had passed.

“I forgot to tell you. Happy New Year, dad.” Shu Nian said with enthusiasm and her eyes curved like she was smiling. “I have a hunch that many good things will happen this year.”

“Don’t you think so?” Shu Nian reached out and touched the photo on the tombstone. “I think, even if this feeling I have is false, you will help me make it true.”

“By the way, mum asked me to bring back a boyfriend for her to see.” Shu Nian “I told her that when I get better, I would find someone who had a handsome appearance but I actually don’t want to fall in love.”

Shu Nian scrunched up her nose and said in a sullen manner: “It’s not fun at all.”

“And it’s not that easy to find good looking ones either.”

After a few days of rest, Shu Nian recovered from her cold.

Chinese New Year was more than a month away and many dubbing directors wanted to take advantage of that period to quicken up their projects. Many dubbing teams would have to work overtime to catch up with their speed and Shu Nian received several calls from different directors.

She couldn’t be lazy anymore and began to stay at the studio day and night being extremely busy.
