Shu Nian was frightened by his words and didn’t dare to think about buying a gift anymore: “But isn’t it bad if I don’t gift anything?”

“No.”

Shu Nian was still debating over the matter though. She turned around to look out of the window but suddenly found that the roads nearby was a little unfamiliar. She hesitated and asked: “Did you drive past the subway station?”

“Yes.” Fang Wencheng said: “It’s very late. Young master instructed me to send you straight home.”

Since they have already passed the station, Shu Nian didn’t refuse the ride home and gave him her address.

Shu Nian played on her phone for a while before quickly asking: “Assistant Fang, how long have you been Teacher Ah He’s assistant?”

“I was originally Mr. Ji’s assistant.” Fang Wencheng didn’t hide this fact and honestly replied: “When young master came back from France, I was transferred over to be his assistant.”

Shu Nian didn’t think she would get such an answer and asked in curiosity: “Do you consider Xie Ruhe as your new boss then?”

“Yes.”

“Are you used to it?”

“It’s okay.” Fang Wencheng smiled and said. “Mr. Ji and young master are both very good people.”

Shu Nian recalled the way he and Xie Ruhe got along with each other but she made no comment. She just thought about whether or not she would resign if she had such a boss.

As if he could sense her inner thoughts, Fang Wencheng glanced at her. Then, he cleared his throat and smoothed out his face: “In fact, young master is not as cold as he seems. He’s very sensitive and cares about the people around him. He has a bad temper but he won’t do anything bad, he just has a tough mouth1.”

Shu Nian agreed: “En.”

She wanted to say a “I think so too”, but before she could say it, Fang Wencheng continued with a sigh: “The most important thing is that young master is really generous and my salary is very high.”

“…”

Because of that conversation with Fang Wencheng, Shu Nian could roughly guess why Xie Ruhe acted so unkind towards him.

Fang Wencheng was an honest man with a low EQ but a good attitude. He had trouble complimenting people and was the kind of person who made others angry by just speaking but would be unable to figure out why the other party was angry with him.

After that, they didn’t chat again.

Fang Wencheng drove Shu Nian to her building complex before leaving.

As Shu Nian walked to the entrance of the building, she happened to see He You coming out. He looked like he had just woken up because his hair was still messy and there were sleep marks on his face. He appeared careless and unkempt.

He You yawned and raised the corners of his lips before saying: “Back from your date?”

Shu Nian didn’t respond to his words and asked: “Are you going out?”

“Yeah.” He You rubbed his face roughly and replied. “I’m so tired, I only slept a little just then.”

Shu Nian earnestly spoke: “You’ve worked hard.”

“All right.” He You couldn’t stand the hypocrisy and raised his foot to walked away. He seemed to have thought of something right then and turned around to remind her: “Hey! You should be extra careful, recently there have been many burglary cases happening nearby so remember to lock the door when you sleep at night.”

Shu Nian quickly nodded: “Okay, thank you.”

She went into her house.

Because of the words He You said just then, Shu Nian checked the entire home to make sure that there weren’t any traces of someone who sneaked in. She reluctantly relaxed and sat on the sofa.

Shu Nian opened the bag of medicine Xie Ruhe gave her and took out a random box. She turned it over to read the instructions.

The small printed words were squeezed tightly together which made it a little difficult to read.

Shu Nian lost track of time and when she came back from her trance, she found that it was quickly approaching midnight. She stretched and packed up her things before heading to the bathroom to take a shower.

By the time Shu Nian lay in bed, more than half an hour had passed since New Year’s Day came.

Shu Nian wasn’t sleepy and she wanted to play on her phone for a while before going to bed. She switched on the screen and found out that she had many WeChat messages but most of which were only four words, “Happy New Year”, which could be accounted as a group sent text.

Shu Nian read them one by one and replied to each individual one:【 Thank you, Happy New Year. 】

Shu Nian got to the last one and she read the sent time. Whether it was deliberate or was just a coincidence, it was sent at exactly midnight.

And it was from Xie Ruhe.

【 Shu Nian, Happy New Year. 】

It was a new year which also meant the arrival of a new life.

Shu Nian tilted up the corner of her lips:【 Happy New Year. 】

She was afraid he would think that it was a group message so she thought to add a:【 Xie Ruhe 】

Xie Ruhe:【 What is it? 】

Looking at their dialogue, Shu Nian could guess that he probably misunderstood her for calling him:【 Nothing, I’m just proving that I didn’t group send it. 】

Xie Ruhe asked:【 How do you prove it? 】

Shu Nian answered:【 Just add a name to prove it. 】

There was a pause of a few seconds before he sent over another message:【 How do you prove it? Shu Nian. 】

Shu Nian didn’t know why he sent it again and was surprised:【 Ah? 】

Xie Ruhe quickly replied:【 I’m also proving myself. 】
