An Inevitable Fate?

Chapter 83 - 83: The unexpected turn of events. (8)

She didn't want to leave and was about to reject the idea but,

"Please,"

Aaron requested.

Reluctantly, she went out, giving them their privacy.

Inside the room, both the parties didn't speak for a good few seconds.

Aaron walked towards the sofa that was placed opposite to the bed. He took his time to have a seat comfortably, adjusting the blazer.

Colin couldn't take it anymore

"What do you want?"

"Uncle, where is your daughter, Jane?"

Colin didn't expect him to ask about Jane. Why would he ask?

He narrowed his eyes. Something must be up!

"What do you mean?"

Aaron smiled but it didn't reach his eyes. He was trying hard not to snap at him, after all, he was his father-in-law!

"She was kidnapped."

Hearing him say that, his heart started to pound loudly against his c.h.e.s.t. If she was kidnapped, where was she now?

Understanding his mind, Aaron continued.

"But don't worry, she's safe now. Rachel saved your daughter."

His voice became strong at the end. When he heard Colin blaming his woman and humiliating her in front of him, his blood was boiling with rage. It had cost him a great fortune to hold back his anger, not to lash out at them.

But Colin didn't seem to believe his words. It was more like he didn't believe Rachel.

Aaron explained in detail about Jane's kidnapping, how an unknown person blackmailed Rachel. Finally, how they ended up together.

Hearing his explanation, Colin felt his world collapsing. His heart rate started to increase when he heard about messages from an unknown number. Because he knew to whom that unknown number belonged to.

Now he understood that Rachel was forced to do it to save his daughter, Jane. But even though she had saved Jane, he knew what the other person wanted actually.

Jane was just a pawn to drive the wedge between himself and Rachel. They used Jane to achieve their goal and guess what, they had succeeded.

Rachel did exactly what they wanted, unknowingly.

He couldn't just forgive her just because she saved Jane.

If he forgives Rachel for this, then that would make him look like a loser who couldn't discipline his daughter.

He knew if he continued to hate Rachel, that would give exactly what the other person wanted but no matter what, he could never forgive her.

At this point, his softened heart became cold. His expression changed from guilty to hatred.

Aaron, who was observing this, felt satisfied.

He wanted Colin to continue to hate Rachel because that would convince the enemy to think they had won.

It was easy to fight with the enemy face-to-face rather than fighting with the one hiding in the dark. They have to lure them out from their hideout to defeat them and that's exactly what Aaron was planning to do.

"You want me to believe and forgive Rachel for what she did? Hah, that would never happen. Not in this lifetime!"

Colin sneered at him as he spoke. He would be a fool to trust Aaron as he had seen him lying with the straight face to the media. He had seen Aaron, who had the nerve to show 'proof' against the fake engagement.

"Did you fake your marriage just like you did with the engagement?"

Colin had this doubt from the time he saw the news. There's no way they would get married a week before.

And to his surprise, Aaron nodded.

Oh my god, the marriage was fake?

"But the certificate..."

His words trailed off at the end. His face frowned in disp.l.e.a.s.u.r.e.

Aaron had to make it look like they both were married for a long time before to save Rachel from getting blamed for cheating. The registration and the certificate's dates were tampered to have them as their solid proof.

Though they had registered their marriage legally, the dates were faked. The procedure was legal but the marriage between them was fake.

They had proof that they were married but that couldn't be considered as a real marriage.

He hated to admit that his marriage was fake but real to the world's eye.

Colin was utterly baffled when he heard this and his temper raised even more.

'They would be living as husband and wife without a real bond between them. And, Rachel agreed to it, without an ounce of shame?'

"It was my plan, Rachel doesn't know about this."

Aaron spoke as if he could hear Colin's inner thoughts.

He had underestimated his enemy's power and had thought that by delaying things they would need not admit the marriage but he lost in this battle.

The marriage was just a Plan B but they were forced to go with it.

He went for a fake marriage as he didn't have plans to announce it in the first place. He didn't want to marry her out of pity and just to save some person. He didn't want to look like a person who would take advantage of her while she needed his help.

But unfortunately, they had to announce it to make the kidnapper believe them.

He wanted to tell this to Rachel but chose not to. It was better not to alert the enemy.

He would tell her, but it's just that, he needed time.
