An Inevitable Fate?

Chapter 43 - 43: There's no future for us. (6)

"Crysta!" Rachel gritted her teeth in anger. Seriously, why is she friends with this woman?

"Don't be shy, Rachel." Crysta winked at her friend.

Again, why is she friends with her?

Darren had the guts to stroke her cheek tenderly in front of Aaron.

'Wow, a cherry on the icing.' Rachel thought.

"Guess, we didn't have to worry much," Alan poured fuel into the fire.

There was a generous amount of awkward silence in the ward. Gina cursed her son inwardly.

The awkward silence was broken by Darren's phone's ringing.

"Hello,"

After a few seconds of silence, he spoke again.

"Okay, I got it." He ended the call and looked at Rachel apologetically.

"I got a call from the office, I need to go. I wanted to stay here and take care of you, but-"

"No, that's fine." She felt guilty for wishing him to leave.

He wanted to kiss her forehead but resisted as there were many people and he had done enough to piss Aaron off. He was satisfied with this.

He excused himself and walked out of the door. He halted as he reached the door, turned to face Aaron. He spoke with a smug look on his face.

"Is it 1:1?" His voice was very low.

Though Aaron looked unaffected by his words, he was burning inside. He would have punched Darren if others were not present. Not that he cared, he was playing fair.

Darren walked along the corridor of the hospital towards the elevator. As he waited for it, he remembered the message Aaron had sent him when he got locked in the hotel.

Aaron: "Congratulations on your first loss, 1 : 0."

He had not slept at all for straight two days. He was scared that his secrets would be out at any moment. He didn't know what to do if that had happened. He had liked Rachel from day one, but because of his friend, he had given up.

Now that he had a chance, he didn't want to lose.

Back in the ward, chit-chatting was going on. A nurse came to take the readings.

"The patient needs rest. Any one of you can stay here. Others should leave." She looked like she wouldn't leave until everyone goes.

Jane was the first one to speak. "I have college. Sis, I will visit you in the evening." She left.

"I-I have some work too." How can Alan stay when Jane left? He had work, too. He still needed to ask about his mystery girl.

"Gina, you can leave, I will stay," Gabriel spoke to make it easy for her good friend, Gina.

"Well, then, take care, Rachel."

She turned to her son who had not spoken a word also. She cursed inwardly as he stood like a wooden block. She left without him.

'My sons won't care for me. I won't care for them. Hmph!'

Just as Gabriel was about to usher Aaron to leave, Crysta spoke,

"Auntie, you should leave, uncle is still at home. Alone! I will be here." Rachel had a bad feeling about this.

"Oh no, dear, I will stay, I-"

Crysta didn't allow her to speak as she practically pushed her out of the ward. Great!

'What is this bitch trying to do? I swear I will kill her if she leaves me al-'

"Bye Rachel. I need to go shopping. He will look after you, very carefully. Right?"

She glared Aaron as if to say, 'Try something, and, you will be dead!'

Seeing her friend's disbelief look, Crysta laughed off.

"Nah, I was kidding," She went and made herself comfortable on the couch.

How in the hell did it turn out like this?

From the beginning, Rachel had not met his eyes for a second also. But now, she was 'alone' with him in the same room. Well, she would never consider Crysta as a person, she was a ghost that would haunt her to death.

She gingerly lifted her head to see him.

He was still standing at the door, in his formal black pants and white rolled-up shirt. He didn't show any intention of walking towards her.

'Maybe he doesn't want to stay?'

"You don't have to stay. I know you are busy." After all, he was in his office attire. Who comes to the hospital to visit a patient like that?

He didn't speak but, finally made his way towards her bed.

"Guess, you aren't busy." She corrected her sentence when he sat down on the chair that was next to the bed.

He fished his phone out from his pocket and busied himself in it. Crysta was doing the same thing on the couch, not even bothering to look in her direction. See? A ghost!

Rachel didn't know what else to do with this awkward situation. In the last, she set her mind on sleeping. F.u.c.k it!

Just after she closed her eyes for ten seconds, his chilling voice came.

"How was the kiss?"

Rachel, who was still under the cover, choked on the air.

Please, can you be any more shameless!
