An Inevitable Fate?

Chapter 44 - 44: There's no future for us. (7)

Thanks to Aaron, there was an awkward silence in the room. Rachel just coughed, not knowing how to answer that question. Crysta... well, didn't bother. Sigh!

Seeing that Rachel wasn't going to answer him, his anger flared up even more. He stood up, making the chair to fall backward with a loud thud! He walked out of the room without caring for anything.

Inside the room, both the girls starred at the door which was slammed by Aaron. When they got to know that he won't be coming back, they both breathed out a sigh of relief.

Crysta narrowed her eyes at Rachel and raised her eyebrows urging for her to spill the beans.

But Rachel just shrugged her shoulders before going back to sleep.

Two weeks later.

"Is everything prepared?" Colin asked the manager, Mr. Kenly, who was in charge of the upcoming year-end banquet.

"Yes, sir. Everything is done." The manager politely replied.

"That's good. I will see you later." He dismissed him. Mr. Kenly walked out of the cabin.

"Now, on your side?"

"Dad, can you stop worrying, please? I have contacted every official and our business partners for our company's banquet. I have personally seen the arrangements made by Mr. Kenly. Everything is good. No, actually, perfect!"

"I know, I know. But, still-"

"No buts please."

At last, Colin breathed and let out a sigh.

He couldn't help but worry when it concerned about the company. It was everything. He single-handedly brought up the company. He had expected his son, Eric to take over his place, but, his son had other plans. He went into the medical field. Hence, Colin had to continue with the company. All these years, he had put his whole soul and mind for its development.

"Alright, dear."

Rachel nodded with a smile. She said she would get back to work and walked towards the door.

Just as she reached for the handle, someone pushed the door from the other side. It startled her. What truly shocked her was the person standing in front of her.

Aaron? Of all the people in the world, how could she meet him in her office? Lady luck was not on her side.

But what shocked her, even more, was, Aaron didn't even dart a glance at her. He didn't acknowledge her presence! Breaking news!

Rachel composed herself and walked away.

Well, outside, she was cool but inside, she was a mess.

'Probably, he didn't see me? Who are you kidding, Rachel? You are not so slim to not to be seen all of a sudden. But, maybe, he purposefully ignored me? Yeah! But, why? I mean, he's Aaron! What happened? Wait, first of all, why is he in our company? Did dad invite him? For what? No, wait, why do I even care? Huh, it's good. Now, this is good. Yeah, totally! Let's get back to work!'

Poor Rachel patted herself and made her way to her cabin.

Though everything was ready for the banquet, still small works were left. Rachel did most of the things which could be done from the office. There was only a week left, and she had to visit the hall again with the manager.

She looked at the project in front of her with a satisfied smile. The company had decided to announce the project during the banquet to everyone. They had put their hundred percent efforts to gain this project. It was the most awaited project for their company. She kept the year-end project details inside the locker safely and left her cabin.

On her way home, she called Crysta and Jane to be meet up. As she reached the house, she saw an Audi parked outside. She could guess who the owner might be. Nevertheless, she went inside.

"Hey,"

Bingo! Her guess was correct.

"Hello," She saw two seats empty in the living room. One was next to Jane who was sitting next to her mom and the other was next to Darren. Without thinking much, she made her way to sit next to Darren.

"Auntie said you girls are going out for shopping. Is it for the banquet?" He questioned Rachel but Jane was the one who answered it.

"Yes!" She was all excited about shopping. Hell, who doesn't like shopping?

"Darren, why are you still addressing me as auntie? You should call me mom." Gabriel pointed out the unwanted thing. Well, that was her talent.

"I-I " Darren was so happy that he couldn't answer. He lost his chance to Jane again.

"Mom, isn't it too early?"

Darren even blushed hearing this. Rachel was amused to see him being embarrassed.

"What do you mean early? They will be getting married in another two months."

That's when Rachel sobered up and lost the smile on her face. Her mom reminded the reality that was going to happen soo.
