An Inevitable Fate?

Chapter 42 - 42: There's no future for us. (5)

A gentle knock came from the other side of the door.

"Come in," Rachel answered as she sat up in her bed. She was still in the hospital as they had asked to stay for recovery.

A man came in sight of her who held a flower bouquet for her.

"How are you?" Darren asked as he handed over the bouquet.

"I'm fine. And, thanks for the flowers." Rachel replied as she took the flowers from him.

"I heard you had gone to the club alone. Why would you do that?"

"Oh, I had gone to meet clients. Office work."

"Still, you should have taken someone with you. You could have asked me, you know?"

"No way, how could I trouble you with my office work? Nothing happened, I'm fine now." Rachel tried not to recall the last night's incident.

"Trouble? Seriously, Rachel? What am I to you?" He was a little displeased with the way Rachel said.

"No, I didn't mean it like that. I-"

She was cut off by him before she could explain.

"Again, what am I to you?" Now, he sounded serious.

"Fiance," Though Rachel didn't want to acknowledge him as her fiance, she didn't have any option.

"Soon, I will be your husband. And, you thought you would trouble me? I will be happy if you could share your burden with me."

"Yeah... right, I'm sorry." She truly felt guilty when he spoke like that. She felt like she was cheating him by not loving him the same way he does.

Darren stared at her for a few more seconds and leaned in to kiss her forehead. Rachel was startled by this action. She lifted her face just in time as Darren bent his head to meet her eyes. But accidentally, their lips met. This time, it was not only Rachel that was shocked but Darren as well.

Rachel was so lost in her thoughts that she didn't even realize when Darren deepened the kiss. When his tongue slid into her mouth to capture hers, she jolted back to reality. Just as she was about to push him, the door to the ward opened and a loud squeal erupted.

"Ouch, bad timing!" Crysta commented casually. Beside her, Jane was standing with eyes closed along with her mom.

Rachel was bright red at this point due to embarrassment.

'This is so awkward! They all saw us kissing. Wait... I wasn't even kissing him in the first place!'

Darren wasn't bothered with them. He cleared his throat and stood next to her as if he wasn't the one who got caught while kissing.

"Brother-in-law, Sis has not recovered yet. How could you do this?" Jane pointed to Darren.

"Did he hurt you?" Rachel glared at Jane when she directed the question to her.

"I-I, Well-" Rachel stuttered to answer her.

"Stop it, Jane. Don't be a nuisance here." Gabriel chided Jane as she walked past them. Rachel felt like crying with happiness.

'My mom is the best!'

Just as she was about to express her thoughts, her mom spoke.

"You guys are so naughty. Wait until you get home." She giggled like a teenager.

'I take it back!' Rachel cursed inwardly.

"Mom! Stop it."

"Ahem- So, how are you, dear?" Finally, her mom asked about her situation.

"I'm fine, mom." She smiled.

"Auntie, don't worry, she was kissing just a while ago. Of course, she's fine." Crysta smirked.

'How did I forget this bitch?' Rachel just rolled her eyes in response to her friend.

Everyone laughed seeing her reddened face.

"What did we miss?" A soothing voice came over.

Everyone turned to see Gina walking over along with her two sons.

"Oh, Gina, you are here! You boys are here as well!" Gabriel said with excitement.

They had informed her that they would be visiting today when they got to know Rachel was hurt.

"Yeah, we all wanted to check on her." She said with a taunting tone.

"More likely, my brother wanted to check on her,"

Alan mumbled so that only Aaron could hear. On the other hand, Aaron was the least bit interested in him. When he got to know that she was hurt while she visited his friend's club, he wanted to see her at that moment itself. Only God knew, how much it took for him to wait for the next day.

"That's so nice of you all," Gabriel was on the verge of tears. Jane rolled her eyes seeing her mom's dramatic version.

"Mom, now you are being a nuisance here," Jane muttered slowly.

"Watch your tongue, young lady!" Gabriel warned her daughter.

"Geez, whatever!" She crossed her arms in defeat.

Gina went to Rachel and gently stroked her cheek, letting out a sigh, she asked,

"How are you, dear?"

"I am-" Rachel was interrupted before she could finish by her dearest friend.

"She was strong enough to kiss her fiance, so, yeah, she's fine. One hundred percent!"

Crysta turned towards Aaron after she spoke. As expected, his face finally showed some expression. That was ... anger?
