An Inevitable Fate?

Chapter 36 - 36: Let's be friends. (4)

Jane wrinkled her face upon seeing Alan.

"Yeah?"

Seeing her expression, Alan's face became red due to embarrassment. He coughed once to cover-up.

"Do... do you know the girl who just spoke to you?"

He hesitated. A lot! After all, they both weren't on good terms.

Jane was about to shake her head but something flashed. Why would he ask?

"Why?"

"I just... wanted to know? Haha!" He laughed awkwardly.

"Ohhh-" Of course, she didn't believe him.

He scratched his head to cover up his embarrassment and decided to come clean.

"Okay, it's like this. I saw her and I kind of... liked her. And I want to get to know her. So, is she your friend?"

"Yes."

"Really?" His eyes were shining like a star.

"Don't believe me if you don't want to." She turned around to walk away from him.

He got panicked and followed to stop her from leaving.

"Hey, hey, I believe you. Of course, I believe you," He didn't have other options, did he? Why would he lose his chance!

She studied him and feeling his sincerity, she nodded her head with satisfaction. Good, she could go on with her scheme.

"I know her, she is my friend."

"Take me to her!" He couldn't hold back his excitement.

"Why should I?" She raised her eyebrows.

" ...? " He was speechless.

"Because she is your friend?" What else could he tell?

"So?"

"... " Seriously?

"So, you have to help me." He was almost pleading.

"Hah! Why do you think that I will help you? Even after quarreling so much? Dream on!"

Jane had decided not to give in easily. She needed to teach him a lesson.

Alan took a deep breath to control his agitation. He reminded himself that he needed to stay calm to get what he wants. So,

"I'm sorry about that, okay?"

... he surrendered.

Jane was taken aback with the sudden apology. Hey! She wasn't ready for this, yet!

"I should forgive you over a mere sorry?" Did he take her for a fool or what?

"Okay, what should I do for you to forgive me?"

"Mm... "

She thought for some time.

"Anwer my question first. If you answer correctly, then only I will forgive you."

Question? He hesitated a little with this. After all, he wasn't good at his studies. He rarely attended his classes. Hence, he could barely remember the subject names, let alone their topics. As for general knowledge... Sigh! forget it.

Now, he could only depend on his luck.

"Sure,"

"Why do students fail in exams?"

"... "

Even after a few seconds, he was speechless.

"Maybe... they won't study well?" It should be the correct answer, isn't it?

"Wrong."

She didn't wait for him to speak but, started to walk towards the entrance.

Curiosity killed the cat. Finally, Alan couldn't take it anymore, he grabbed her arm and asked,

"I lost, tell me the answer now." He was determined.

Jane crossed her arms, she was enjoying the show.

"The students fail in their exams because-" She stopped purposefully.

"Because?"

"Because... the question paper will contain only the questions but not the answers. Hence, they fail."

There was a long pause.

Caw! Caw!

A crow flew across Alan's head.

Can anyone tell him what's going on here?

Jane was thoroughly enjoying his expressions. From the corner of her eye, she saw Edwin coming in their direction.

Seeing her with some random guy, Edwin frowned.

"Babe, who's this?" He asked as he wrapped his arm around her shoulder casually.

"I don't know, let's go!" She simply neglected Alan, who was standing like a wooden block.

Alan, who regained his composure, wanted to follow Jane but heard their conversation.

"What were you speaking to him about?" Edwin questioned.

"Oh, it's nothing. He looked like a mentally challenged person. He was blabbering something nonsense."

Hmph! He had it coming. Who asked him to mess with her?

"Next time, be careful. Don't speak to strangers."

"Okay!" Jane exclaimed.

Alan's jaw dropped and it nearly touched the ground. What rubbish? He was a mentally challenged person? A stranger? And, she needed to be careful around the strangers?

What a joke!

"The strangers should be careful around you. What a savage girl!"

He mumbled to himself. He could only console his poor heart.

_

Actually, Jane didn't go with Edwin. She gave him an address and asked him to drop her there.

He did as she said. If it was another day means he would have asked for the details and all but, today, he had a date. A date! After a long time! He didn't want to mess it up.

Jane entered the restaurant and searched for that particular person. Even after searching the entire floor, she couldn't find that person.

'Bad luck!' Just as she was about to leave the floor, the restroom door opened and, a slim figure walked out.
