Chapter 22 - //hunting and gathering//

Crouching through the forest as a group. Agron was leading them to the hunting grounds while Spencer was casually walking behind the group, unlike the others, he held no weapon and refused to carry one as it would only be a hindrance since he didn't know how to use it effectively.

.

"This one is strange, he does not carry a weapon on a hunt and refuses to use it when offered" -Agron thought

Agron was constantly confused by Spencer's actions the longer he was around him. Agron decided he should focus on the hunt as it was more important.

Reaching the hunting grounds which was a clearing located north of the tribe, Agron signaled the group to stay low and follow him. Crouching down, Spencer followed Agron's orders and mimicked the rest of the group.

As they got closer to the clearing, Agron raised his hand, signaling the group to stop. The reason for this was that Agron spotted another one of those giant deer that Spencer killed as an offering for the tribe.

Agron began signaling the group to move to specific locations. Quintus was moved to the opposing side of the deer, Hagen was moved to the deers left and Cassius was moved to the deers right.

This effectively covered all sides that the deer could escape, Dinah was ordered to follow Agron as they would be the distraction, while Spencer was told to try and keep an eye on the deer in case it managed to avoid their ambush.

Once everyone was in position, Agron signaled the group to attack the deer. The first to attack was Quintus as he threw his spear at the deer followed by Hagen charging from the deers left to impale it with his.

Quintus's Spear pierced the side of the deer causing it to panic, in its panic, the deer rushed in the direction of Hagen who was still in the middle of his charge. Hagen could not react in time to the creature's sudden charge and was thrown back into a tree on impact, putting him out of the fight.

Within only moments of the battle starting, A member of the group was already badly injured from the creature's retaliation, Agron seeing this was angered and immediately threw his spear at the deer, Cassius followed and did the same, Agrons spear punctured the creature's skin and proceeded to pierce its lungs, while Cassius's spear pierced the creatures front leg.

*Shriek!*

The creature shrieked in pain from the blood filling its lungs and slowly drowning it from the inside. The creature became frantic and rushed in the direction of Agron and Dinah trying to impale one of them with its horns.

Agron managed to easily avoid the creature's charge due to having the experience of a veteran hunter, he easily avoided the creature's charge and jumped out of the way. Agron soon realized that he made a fatal mistake, he remembered that Dinah was still following behind him.

Looking back, he saw that the deer was now in a trajectory heading towards Dinah, he immediately tried to run and push her out of the way as she was not familiar with this kind of situation, this lead to her being now frozen in fear from the deer's charge.

Agron realized that he wouldn't make it in time to save Dinah, Dinah could only raise her arms to protect herself. Spencer who was on the sidelines was watching this all unfold decided to intervene. Using his immense speed, Spencer flickered from his previous location.

Dinah who still had her arms up was frozen, but after a few moments, she came to realize that the pain of being impaled never came no matter how long she was waiting for it, Agron was now next to her with his mouth agape.

What they saw was Spencer, he was holding the horns of the deer and keeping it in place, Quintus who was still behind the deer couldn't understand what he was seeing, the attack that had easily knocked Hagen into a tree was being stopped in its tracks.

"You alright?"-Spencer

Spencer looked over his shoulder to see if Agron and Dinah were ok, seeing that they were unharmed, Spencer looked back at the deer that was strongling to free itself from Spencer's grip on its horns.

"Now to deal with you"-Spencer

After saying this, Spencer leaned back and swung the deer into the air, right before slamming it back unto the floor. This incapacitated the deer, rendering it unconscious and bleeding internally, Quintus, Agron, Dinah, and Cassius had their mouths agape, except for Hagen who was still unconscious from the beginning of the battle.

Letting go of the creature's horns, Spencer turned around and looked at Agron and Dinah.

"How long are you planning to stand there? go check on your friend"-Spencer

Agron and Dinah appearing to wake up from their daze, quickly went over to check up on Hagen, Quintus followed as well to check Hagens condition, he was still breathing, but he was badly hurt from the creatures attack.

"We should head back to the tribe"-Spencer

Spencer looked at the deer that was on the floor and was about to pick it up.

"Let me help you"- Cassius

Looking to his left, Spencer saw Cassius offering to help him carry the deer.

"no need"-Spencer

Spencer then picked up the deer and placed it over his shoulder with ease.

"Let's go"-Spencer

Saying this Spencer began walking back to the tribe with the deer over his shoulder, the rest of the group was still amazed by how strong Spencer was and they held many questions, but they had to focus on Hagen as he was in critical condition.

Making their way back to the village, the four tended to Hagen while Spencer carried the deer.

.

Finally arriving at the village, the tribe quickly began tending to Hagen's wounds the moment they saw his condition, Spencer casually threw the corpse of the deer at the center of the tribe and began making his way back to his tent.

"Wait!"- Agron

Before Spencer could reach his tent, Agron called out to him and started to walk towards him, Dinah could be seen following behind him.

"I thank you for helping us"-Agron

Agron thanked Spencer for saving their lives earlier in the battle and soon after, Dinah walked in front of Agron and looked Spencer in the eyes.

"I hate you for killing Baal, but thank you for saving me"-Dinah

"Baal?"-Spencer

Seeing that Spencer didn't know who Baal was, Dinah grew angry at him.

"Baal was my mate, you killed him!"-Dinah

Remembering the person he killed when he first arrived at the tribe, Spencer finally realized who Baal was.

"I am sorry"-Spencer

After apologizing, Spencer continued to make his way back to the tent, leaving the now angry Dinah behind.

"Wait"-Cassius

But he was again interrupted. The one who called out to Spencer this time was Cassius.

"What is it"- Spencer

Spencer just wanted to go back to his tent for the day, but they wouldn't seem to let him.

"During the hunt, you killed the deer with your hands alone, how did you do this"- Cassius

Spencer hearing the question didn't know how to answer, he couldn't just say that something like that was of no harm to him, as that would degrade their efforts to hunt the deer.

"The deer was already weakened by your attacks, I only finished it"-Spencer

this answer would have been acceptable if Cassius didn't also see Spencer pick up the deer before slamming it into the soil, that feat seemed impossible even if the deer was injured or not.

but before Cassius could carry the topic any further, Spencer vanished into his tent, leaving the group in silence with all their questions remaining completely unanswered.
