"What medicine did you give me?" Mu Ruqin asked, after she swallowed the pill and drank some water.

"Anti-inflammatory drug. It should help you recover faster." Chu Lixue packed the medicine away.

"You vomited blood so I guessed you had internal injuries but no specifics. Any anti-inflammatories should have had some effect from what I remember."

Mu Ruqin went quiet all of sudden, she couldn't help but think she was lucky to be alive. Maybe the medicine was really effective? Perhaps when she was injured, her broken ribs did not touch any internal organs? Or maybe ability users had an improved constitution?

Her fever slowly passed after she passed out last time. She had just not woken up until now.

"Eat some congee."

The woman was fully awake but Chu Lixue couldn't just kick her away, after all she did want to recruit her into her own group. After all, even though her life was comfortable, she still remembered her priorities. And right now, she also had a daughter to worry about. Even though she was young, she could already absorb energy nucleuses from the water element, and unfortunately, Chu Lixue didn't have any of these. The only way to improve their living conditions and gain more crystals would be by hunting.

She had reluctantly boiled rice porridge for her– rice was very valuable. If she could save a few bags of it, it was like investing in stocks that you were sure would rise. The more time she waited, the more it would be worth.

"Thank you…" Mu Ruqin wisely avoided any questions – her sister-in-law looked like she would explode with anger if she did anything, other than obediently opening her mouth and eating.

After eating a few spoonfuls, Chu Lixue's resentment slowly disappeared.

Mu Ruqin asked, "Before, you said I would need to help you with something? What do you need my help with, sist... Lixue?"

Chu Lixue suddenly remembered her previous words, causing her to miss the fact that Mu Ruqin almost called her 'sister-in-law', and also that even after she changed it, they weren't intimate enough to call each other with their names yet. She immediately put down the bowl and grabbed something nearby.

"Your ability is fire, right? Can you use it freely?", she asked.

"Is this okay?"

Chu Lixue's eyes widened, she had imagined that a fire ability would be powerful, but not as much. Just looking at the fire created by Mu Ruqin, she couldn't help but think that offensive abilities were truly envious. Mu Ruqin's flame was large, and she could make it move just like she wished. It only took her seconds to form it into a flame spear.

Not to mention, only about 2 months went by since the start of the Apocalypse. A lot of people still hadn't even awakened any abilities, and even if people did, they would be at most at Tier 1. Chu Lixue couldn't help but be a little envious, a fire ability in the future would be much more powerful that now.

Lucky suffered a huge shock, sitting in the wrong place at the wrong time, since the flame spear almost burned his fur.

At this moment, Mu Ruqin could feel the change in Chu Lixue's eyes. Previously, she used to look at her as if she was a bothersome thing, but now the sparkling d.e.s.i.r.e in her eyes could clearly be seen.

'This ability user was indeed powerful!' Mu Ruqin inexplicably felt a chill down her neck and she lightly coughed.

"So, you saw it. You still didn't answer my previous question through."

With the question, Chu Lixue calmed down and sat at the side of the bed.

"How about joining my group as a bodyguard?"

"Bodyguard? Me?", Mu Ruqin almost fell that her hearing has gone bad.

"Maybe I said it wrong. I'd like to invite you to my group, I think you already know, but ability users need crystal nucleuses to improve..."

Seeing that Mu Ruqin didn't react to what she has just said, she continued, "Unless you have connections with the government or the military, currently the only way for survivors to gain more nucleuses is to either take tasks from the City Hall, or to go outside and get them from hunting..."

Mu Ruqin's eyes flashed, hesitation visible in them. One's own life was precious, beneficial exchange was difficult to believe in. Closer to cold equivalent exchange, who helped who and who saved who.

In the face of the post-apocalyptic world, Mu Ruqin did not want to change her way of life. However, when she thought about her family's responsibilities, and the recent assassination attempt on her, she truly couldn't go back to what she used to do before.

"Alright." Mu Ruqin nodded and closed her eyes, slightly tired.

"Eat something before sleeping more."

The scent of congee wafted forward, Mu Ruqin opened her eyes and had to agree that people needed to communicate with each other in order to understand themselves. The way she moved was more natural and gentler, without unnecessary stiffness.

Chu Lixue picked the bowl together with the spoon, and turned to leave. Lucky snuck in when they were talking previously, and seeing him now she remembered that he shouldn't come near Mu Ruqin yet.

"Go outside." Chu Lixue whispered, as Lucky perked up and with a swish of his tail went outside the room.
