Chapter 15: I’ll Get You To Marry Me By Then

Su Tao didn't know what he was thinking. She merely felt that it was tedious because Milksop didn't follow her expectations.

She was rendered speechless, and didn't know whether to hit him or not. Looking at his soft and cute appearance, she threw away the stick, and then glared at him angrily. "Why are you so cowardly? You’ll definitely be bullied by your wife in the future."

If Milksop were ugly, she would have been able to go home long ago.

She couldn't bring herself to do it.

At his age, Xie Yuntang knew what a wife meant. He thought about it seriously. Why would my wife bully me?

He still didn't understand it after a while. He glanced at the sky. The teacher was going to start teaching soon. "Su Tao, I'm going to school."

After Su Tao saw him pee last time, he no longer peed in the bamboo forest. He would walk faster to use the toilet at home.

Probably because she was used to pinching Xie Yuntang, Su Tao stretched out her hand to pinch him. She bared her teeth and said, "I told you to call me Sister, not Su Tao."

Xie Yuntang's face flushed. He covered his face which was pinched, and said softly, "I am a month older than you. You can't pinch my face. Your reputation will be affected."

The teacher said that a man and a woman should keep their distance.

A young brat like him was talking about reputation. Su Tao laughed, and then made a face to scare him. "I'll get you to marry me by then."

Xie Yuntang didn't know whether he was frightened by her or her words. He took a few steps back, staggered, and fell on his back.

Suddenly, the girl laughed. Perhaps because she laughed so hard, her laughter sounded a bit like a goose’s sound.

The boy blushed with embarrassment, got up and ran away.

  ……

After forty-five minutes to an hour, Mrs. Su-Qian went back to the house and counted the eggs, only to find that two eggs were missing. This was bad news!

The whole family stopped working. They all stood in the yard waiting to be searched.

Su Dagui was also a little angry. The eggs were reserved for the Xie family as a gift. He’d planned to ask if they could hand over less food.

Su Dagui said with a straight face, "Who stole them? Take them out if you haven't eaten them!"

Su Tao didn't move. She didn't steal them in the first place. She had an alibi.

She was out cutting ragweed in the morning.

Being a young boy, Su Zhi was a little frightened. He cowered near Su Tao. That happened to be spotted by the sharp-eyed Mrs. Su-Qian. She dragged them out and slapped each of them without saying a word.

It happened so fast that Su Tao didn't even have time to react. By the time she did, her face was already stinging with pain. The anger in her heart rose immediately, and she quickly suppressed it.

She was small and couldn’t win in a fight, so she had to suffer this grievance.

She started bawling with an aggrieved look. "We didn't take it. My brother and I went to cut the ragweed. We didn’t enter the house when we came back, and we haven't even eaten yet..."

Su Zhi cried beside Su Tao, howling like a wolf. His face was already swollen from the beating, and that slap must have hurt more than Su Tao did.

Lin Sanzhu ran up to them with a flash of distress in her eyes. She quickly explained to her mother-in-law in a low voice, "Mother, Taozi and Xiaozhi came home after cutting the ragwood, and didn't enter the house."

Mrs. Su-Qian was only concerned with finding the eggs at this moment. She didn't have the intention to make things difficult for her second son’s family.

As soon as she heard that, she looked at the two children of the older son’s family and asked fiercely, "Did you take them?"

Su Jinbao backed away with a guilty conscience, and said in fear, "We didn't take them."

"Why did you back away if you didn’t? I'll count to three. If you don't confess, I’ll beat you with the stick."

Mrs. Su-Qian turned around and took a thin bamboo stick. This thin bamboo stick might look harmless, but it would leave a mark if you were hit by it.

Su Tao's eyelids twitched, and she silently moved behind Su Zhi. When Su Zhi saw her move, he followed suit.

Su Tao, "..."

Fine, she couldn't count on him.

While the two of them were moving, Su Jinbao had already been hit a few times. He jumped up and down screaming.

Mrs. Su-Jin watched in distress. She wanted to protect him, but didn't dare to.

In the end, Su Jinbao couldn't take it anymore and confessed. He cried as he said, "My brother and I took them, but Su Tao snatched them away."

Immediately, everyone looked at Su Tao. Su Tao was startled. She pretended to cry as she explained, "Cousin, don't talk nonsense. I didn’t snatch your eggs. You’re the one who bullies my brother and me every time."

Mrs. Su-Qian believed that. How could that loser have the ability to snatch Su Jinbao's eggs? Then, she looked at Su Jinbao, and slapped him a few more times.

"Where have you hidden them? If you don't take them out today, you and your brother will kneel outside for a day, and you won't get to eat anything."

"Su Tao has given them to Xie Yuntang. She really snatched them." Su Jinbao cried and pointed at Su Tao.

"I didn't. I'm not familiar with Xie Yuntang..."

"You did. My brother and I saw it. Su Zhi was also there."

Su Zhi wasn’t that stupid after all. When he heard that he would be beaten, he squinted his eyes and shook his head, crying. "No, I didn't see it. I saw that you took the eggs, and you asked me not to tell anyone..."

Mrs. Su-Qian also felt that her second son’s family wasn’t lying. She beat Su Jinbao and Su Laicai, and then angrily rummaged through the house of her older son’s family.

She shouted for Lin Sanzhu to look for the eggs as well.

Lin Sanzhu wasn’t that honest after all. She didn't like Mrs. Su-Jin. Thus, she searched carefully under the bed and at the wall. Although she didn't find the eggs, she found a few catties of rice.

"Mother, I found rice here."

Mrs. Su-Jin's face paled. These few catties of rice was given by her maiden family a few days ago. She didn't hand it over to Mrs. Su-Qian. She stammered, "Mother, this is the rice that my mom gave us. I’ve forgotten about it."

There was no way Mrs. Su-Qian would believe her. She grabbed the rice and weighed it. It weighed several catties. Now, she wasn’t that anxious to look for the eggs.

She said sarcastically, "You’ve been back from your mother's house for days. I didn’t know your memory is so poor. Both your families are something. One hid a fish, while the other hid rice. You’re all guarding against us."

"Why did I give birth to you? I might as well have drowned you."

"Su He’s wife, my husband and I haven’t decided to live with which family in the future. Yet now, you’re already harboring thoughts."

The implication was that she could choose to live with her second son’s family if she wanted.

As soon as Su Tao heard that, she got nervous. Please, don’t live with us!

But her worries were completely unnecessary. How could Mrs. Su-Jin possibly let her mother-in-law live with her second son? One had to know that the things owned by Mrs. Su-Qian would belong to the family whom she lived with.

Mrs. Su-Jin quickly explained, "Mother, I really forgot. I had also wanted to buy some meat for you and Father this afternoon. My mom gave me 20 copper coins."

Food had to be shared with the whole family, but not money. However, if it was money found by Su Fu and Su He, it had to be handed over.

However, Mrs. Su-Qian had no reason to collect the money given by her daughter-in-law's maiden family. There was nothing she could do about that, except being jealous.

This was also the reason why Mrs. Su-Qian treated her eldest daughter-in-law relatively well. The eldest daughter-in-law's maiden family gave them things from time to time, unlike her second daughter-in-law's maiden family who were poor and came here once or twice a year to ask for things.

If she weren’t the matriarch of the family, the things in their family would have been given away.

Su Tao didn’t know that. Had she known that Lin Sanzhu's maiden family behaved that way, she would have wanted to die.

No, she would have wanted to die immediately.

Mrs. Su-Qian glanced at Mrs. Su-Jin angrily, but her anger subsided a little. "This is more like it. Next time, if your sons steal eggs again, I'll break their arms."

"Mother, I will definitely teach them a lesson. Don't be angry. Dahe, hurry up and buy some meat with the money for your parents’ nourishment." Although Mrs. Su-Jin said that with a smile, her heart was already bleeding.

Her rice, and the money she saved...
