Chapter 14: Beat Me, Milksop!

Down the slope behind the school, Su Tao could see Su Zhi's swollen face from a distance away. Although she was often beaten, her injuries weren’t as severe as his.

Thank goodness she didn’t act foolishly yesterday.

Otherwise, she would be the one with a swollen face.

Su Zhi's eyes were so swollen that they were just a slit, and when he saw her, he smiled until even the slit was gone. "Sister, do you have pancakes?"

Seeing that he suffered such a serious injury, Su Tao didn’t scold him. She took out a paper bag and shared a piece of cookie with him. “Eat it quickly. You’ll be beaten again if you’re seen."

After she said that, she ignored him and took a bite of the peanut cookie. She only felt like a human when she ate Milksop’s food.

In the Su family, she felt that she was treated worse than a pig. The pig could have three meals a day, whereas she couldn’t, and was even scolded and beaten.

Su Dou in the back basket suddenly opened his mouth and began to cry.

Su Tao, "..."

He cried early in the morning, which was really annoying.

She shared some peanut cookies with him, stuffing them into his mouth, and soon the crying stopped.

She guessed he hadn’t had enough milk these days.

After eating the peanut cookies, she hurried to cut the ragweed, then ran home after filling up a basket of it, just in time for breakfast at the Su family’s house.

She secretly heaved a sigh of relief. She could finally eat.

When Mrs. Su-Qian saw the three of them return, she looked disgruntled. "There's not enough food. You guys can eat at noon. You don't do any work anyway, so you won't die of hunger."

Lin Sanzhu knew that her mother-in-law was still angry about the fish, so she didn't dare to say anything. It was also pointless to say anything. It would only cause her and Su Fu to be unable to eat as well.

Su Tao was so angry that she gritted her teeth. Wretched old woman, I wished you could choke to death!

She threw down the back basket and carried Su Dou to her own room. Su Zhi naturally followed her in. He said pitifully, "Sister, I want to eat."

They had been starving all day. It was no wonder that he wanted to eat.

Su Tao rolled her eyes at him. "Where do I find food for you? Bear with it and eat at noon."

She could not go on this way. She would starve to death before Milksop killed her.

She had to find a way to earn some money to buy food.

However, she could do nothing well except study.

She couldn’t cook or do business.

Why was she like a good-for-nothing?

Su Zhi just wanted to eat. He whispered: "Sister, there are eggs in Grandma's room."

Su Tao, "..."

Was this fool not afraid of being beaten again? She had to hand it to him.

However, she also wanted to eat eggs.

She gulped at the thought of that.

"Don't even think about it. You’ll be beaten again if you’re discovered."

"I saw Cousin steal them today." Su Zhi whispered.

Su Tao widened her eyes slightly and became interested, "When did you see it?"

"I saw it when Grandma went out to do the laundry in the morning. Cousin told me not to say anything."

"How many did he take?"

"Two."

Su Tao started plotting upon hearing that. She didn't dare to steal from Mrs. Su-Qian, but she wasn’t afraid of snatching from the two children of the older son’s family.

"Ask them to go to the side of the toilet later. Tell them you want to share pancakes with them."

There wasn’t much work in the fields these days. The children didn't have to go to the fields, but adults still had to go.

Su Zhi's swollen eyes slightly widened, looking a little happy. "Sister, are you going to snatch Cousin's eggs?"

Sister was awesome at snatching food.

Fortunately, Su Tao didn't know what he was thinking, otherwise he would have been kicked out of the room. However, Su Tao didn’t sound nice either. "That’s not called snatching."

After a while, Lin Sanzhu came back. After telling the two siblings to stay at home, she went to work with Su Dou on her back.

Su Tao brought water to Su Fu, put it beside him, and then ran out. After a while, Su Zhi and the two other boys came over.

The taller one was Su Jinbao, who was nine years old.

The shorter one was Su Laicai, who was six years old.

These two rascals were nasty like their mother. They bullied Su Tao and Su Zhi whenever an opportunity arose. Su Tao had long wanted to teach them a lesson, but never had the chance.

"Su Jinbao, Su Laicai, I know you stole some eggs. Give me the eggs, and I won't tell Grandma. If you don't, I'll tell her right away. Let’s see if Grandma will beat you to death!"

Su Jinbao and Su Laicai, who had wanted to eat pancakes, panicked when they heard that. Then, Su Jinbao gave Su Zhi a vicious look. "Didn't I tell you not to tell anyone?"  He gave Su Zhi a hard shove as he said that.

Su Zhi stumbled to the ground and cried immediately. Su Tao, "..."

How useless.

Su Tao took out a stick and hit Su Jinbao twice, looking more fiercely than him. "Push him again and I’ll beat you to death!"

She could only subdue these two children if she took the offensive.

Su Jinbao stepped back repeatedly when he was beaten and cursed, "Su Tao, you crazy woman!"

"Crazy woman? Huh? I dare you to scold me again! I’ll beat you to death!"

Su Tao wasn’t afraid of Su Jinbao because she had a stick in her hand. She beat him hard and said: "If you bully us again in the future, I’ll beat you until you bleed!”

Su Jinbao cried, hugging his head while sobbing on the ground. "I’m going to tell my mom!"

"Go ahead! If you tell her, I’ll tell Grandma that you stole her eggs. By then, let’s see if your mom will beat me or Grandma will beat you. When that happens, don't cry."

Su Tao dared to steal their eggs, so she wasn't afraid of them ratting on her. The eggs weren’t stolen by her in the first place.

Then she pointed the stick at Su Laicai and said, "Where are the eggs? Take them out, or I’ll beat you."

Even Su Jinbao was beaten to tears, so Su Laicai was naturally scared. Tears fell down his face. "They’re in... the room."

"Go and get them!" Su Tao glared at him, raised her stick and hit him once on the arm.

Su Laicai ran away crying and came back after a while. While crying, he handed her the two eggs.

Su Tao's eyes lit up slightly. She grabbed the eggs and warned them, "Don't go home and rat on me. If you do so, I’ll beat you again next time! It's normal for me to go crazy and beat you to death."

Recently, the villagers had been saying that she was crazy. Of course she heard the gossip.

She wasn’t crazy. She was fine.

Just as she wanted to ask them to leave, she caught a glimpse of Milksop standing not far away. He was looking in this direction. Obviously, he saw what she did.

She wasn't afraid of Milksop, but he came at the right time. She had been pondering over where to boil the eggs.

She ran over, stuffed the eggs into his hand and said in a self-justified manner, "Cook these for me when you get home at noon. Don’t tell anyone that they’re for me. Tell them they’re for you! You also can't say that I gave you the eggs, okay?"As she spoke, she raised the stick in her other hand.

It meant that if he defied her, she would beat him.

Xie Yuntang’s eyes briefly flickered as he looked at the stick. He saw her beating people fiercely just now. He took the eggs and nodded obediently.

He had no temper at all.

Su Tao glared at him angrily and lectured him, "Xie Yuntang, why don't you have any temper at all? You're like a milksop."

"Don't you know how to resist? You can scold me or beat me."

As she spoke, she stuffed the stick into his hand and said, thinking that he wouldn’t beat her, "I bullied you just now. That wasn’t right."

"Come on, beat me."

Milksop had no temper at all. That wouldn’t do. She had to train him, otherwise it would take forever for her to be able to go home.

There was a lost expression on Xie Yuntang's sweet and cute face. He threw the stick away in a hurry and said seriously, "You can't beat people. It's wrong."

Su Tao, "..."

Of course she understood that. If it weren't for the unconscionable system, would she ask to be killed and beaten all day long like a mad woman?

She opened her mouth and then closed it again. He definitely wouldn't believe her if she told him what an adult would say.

Finally, she imitated the unreasonable way a child would behave and said, "If you don't beat me, I'll beat you! Are you going to beat me? I'll count to three, and if you don't beat me, I'll beat you!"

Although Xie Yuntang was afraid of being beaten, he still shook his head. Then he stretched out his hand to her and whispered: "You go ahead and beat me."

Dad said that crazy people didn’t know what they were doing. If others didn’t do as she said, she would become even crazier.
