Episode 26: I’m Going To You (VII)

Again and again and again.

The sound of high heels echoed through the hallway.

The eyes of Zahid, who was gasping for breath while leaning on the wolf divine beast, was bright with life.

Although breaking out in a cold sweat, Zahid staggered to his feet.

And enduring his pain, he straightened his back and sat on the chair.

He was determined never to show a disheveled appearance.

With a bang, the door opened and Elizabeth entered.

Elizabeth Sonoren.

Prior to her marriage, she was known as Elizabeth Diefenril, and was Zahid’s aunt.

She was also a woman who came into the Duchy of Diefenril and held the power.

“Well, you can lie down and listen.”

Elizabeth smiled at Zahid.

“It’s hard for you to sit up right now, isn’t it? You don’t have to hide it from me, kid.”

“…Why did you come?”

Zahid raised his eyebrows and asked.

Elizabeth said softly as she examined her fingernails.

“Did you check the documents I sent you last time? The engagement letters that came to you.”

“What?”

“Soon, we’ll re-arrange your fiancée.”

With a face full of exhaustion, Zahid tried to get up.

However, the pain piercing through his body was unbearable. Finally, he fell.

“As soon as the breakup article went out, a lot of people came. You’re very popular, my handsome nephew.”

“What…!”

“This aunt will find a good match for Diefenril, so you can just stay still.”

Elizabeth sullenly added.

“And, don’t arbitrarily break off the engagement like the last few times. Hmm?”

Elizabeth reached over and grabbed Zahid’s chin.

“Before I break that handsome face.”

The face of Zahid, who was greatly shocked by the pain, suddenly contorted.

Nonetheless, Zahid glared at Elizabeth without uttering a single groan.

“Yes, my good aunt, try it until the end.”

Zahid gritted his teeth and spoke with venom tinting his face.

“You can sell your nephew four, five, six times. I will break it off seven or eight times.”

“It’s fun.”

Elizabeth giggled, then laughed loudly.

“Do you know how much you’ve lost so far to the penalty? Huh?”

So far, Elizabeth had engaged Zahid three times.

It was an engagement that took place without Zahid even knowing his partner’s face.

All of them were women with children who were at least ten years older than Zahid.

Zahid, who found out through the newspaper and barely recognized the other person, sent the dissolution papers with his own seal.

Every time he broke the engagement, he had to pay a huge penalty.

This was because Elizabeth placed a penalty of a large amount on the engagement document.

“Remember. Even if I become the last family head of Diefenril, I will never pass this family on to someone else.”

Zahid grabbed Elizabeth’s arm with all his might.

“Especially to your people.”

What was holding Zahid back was the family rule of the Duchy of Diefenril, which was as follows.

—The engagement of a minor head of the family may be determined by the agreement of the representative of the head of the family and the Senate, and the fiancé or fiancée has a position equivalent to the spouse in an emergency.

For an objective procedure, all parties who had sent engagement letters were interviewed and proceeded with a majority vote.

Of course, if both parties did not agree, the engagement could be broken off.

The magic tower could no longer produce sedatives due to financial difficulties.

The temple did not provide divine power to Zahid because they wanted something from the Duchy of Diefenril.

Zahid was overcome with pain, and had no choice but to slowly go mad.

At this rate, by the time he reached adulthood, he would completely lose his mind.

In the midst of this, if there was a child on paper, that child would become the successor to Diefenril.

This was because of the provision that ‘the fiancé or fiancée has a position equivalent to the spouse in an emergency’.

Thus, all of Elizabeth’s pushes for Zahid’s fiancées were those with children.

Of course, they were Elizabeth’s people.

And naturally, that child would not be recognized by the divine beast.

‘But does that matter now that the power of the divine beasts has weakened?’

She could still become the master of the Duchy of Diefenril.

“Well, yes. Let’s do it to the end.”

Elizabeth giggled and grabbed Zahid’s hair to force him to meet her eyes.

“You’re a smart nephew, so you know where the penalty you pay every time you break up is going.”

With the family rule, which was reasonable in its own way, Elizabeth created the concept of ‘penalty’ for her own gain.

Whenever Zahid broke off the engagement, the penalty would go to Elizabeth’s side.

The wolf divine beast next to Zahid showed his teeth and growled.

Naturally, Elizabeth showed no signs of being afraid at all.

Diefenril blood was flowing in Elizabeth’s body as well.

So Diefenril’s divine beast could not attack her.

“Your fiancée will be decided at the senate meeting tomorrow. You know…”

Elizabeth whispered, in a light tone like she was having fun.

“Well, don’t you have someone you particularly like?”

She was the majority, so she had nothing to fear. The senators only care about money anyway.

All of them were bribed, and they had no choice but to choose the woman Elizabeth had arranged.

Zahid groaned from the pain of his hair being grabbed.

Looking at such a Zahid, Elizabeth giggled.

“Even if there is, of course, I don’t really want to listen.”

Elizabeth pushed Zahid’s head away.

As Zahid’s body became sensitive to pain, his head felt like it was splitting.

However, he gritted his teeth and barely swallowed his screams.

“You look like a father who has lost his pride. If you get down on your knees and say you would do everything your aunt tells you to do, the treatment of the successor of this duchy will not be to this extent.”

Elizabeth laughed for a long time.

Then, without looking back, she walked away, clicking heels.

“Kyiiiiiing…”

The wolf divine beast crouched under Zahid’s feet as if to comfort him.

‘Really… It’s like hell.’

Zahid laid his trembling body on top of the wolf.

‘I’d rather die.’

Zahid gasped as he embraced the wolf.

‘But I have things to protect.’

Zahid glared at the back of the disappearing Elizabeth.

‘I will protect you unconditionally. Diefenril and my divine beast. Somehow.’

The 11-year-old boy was helpless, but he was gritting his teeth and holding on.

He didn’t want to face the truth that just holding on was impossible.

Then he wouldn’t even be able to endure.

The boy bit his lower lip.

Once again, the fiancée was decided regardless of his will.

He knew that he would pay a huge penalty, but he had to write the letter of dissolution with trembling hands.

What kind of humans would try to invade Diefenril and use them?

It was so hard for him to even walk a few steps, and he only resented himself.

‘Mother, father…’

He couldn’t trust anyone anymore.

Tears welled up in the tired little boy’s eyes.

‘…I miss you.’

A time when warmth and love was natural.

Those days were like a very old dream.

Back then, he wasn’t sick, and he had parents he could trust, so he wasn’t afraid of people.

But now… Everyone he knew from then betrayed him.

Each and every one of the senators playing with Elizabeth’s money was an old man whom Zahid had followed well.

The nanny and the maid, the coachman and the servants. Everyone was on Elizabeth’s side.

‘This painful hell…’

Zahid pressed his lips tightly together and held back tears.

‘I feel lonely because I can’t trust anyone.’

While the boy closed his eyes and crouched down, the wolf divine beast cried out with pity in his eyes.

Ame: Worry not, Zahid! Rosie is coming! Well, I mean, she is on her way… she’ll reach eventually ^^;

Tassie: Nah if rosie doesn’t destroy her, I WILL
