The Ruthless Dragon God

Chapter 6 - Introduction - III

Father Wilfred and a cook managed the orphanage. The orphanage worked on the donations of the village folks. The villagers use to sell goods to them at lower prices while the academy gave free education to the children in orphanage. Still the funds in disposal were very less.

Number of kids staying in orphanage kept on differing. Children from all the nearby villages were brought into this orphanage. Most of them were abandoned by their parents or had death of parents. Though they were given good teachings by the priest, most of them ran away for one reason or the another.

Due to huge amount of kids, the orphanage supported them till they became 16 years of age. Further then they could live here for two more years but had to pay rent and food expenses. They had to earn this money by doing some work or getting a job in the village. After 18 years they had to find their own lively hood and housing in village.

Keiran and Leo both were also abandoned and brought to the orphanage when they were small. That night when Rex was abandoned in woods, the old wounds of abandonment in their heart had come back to the surface again. They both decided to take care of Rex as their own brother.

Rex was also fond of them. He used to wait for them on door of church and ran to greet them when they came back from school. They all use to play together and took care of each other.

The fights between children were common. Every now and then were fights in orphanage between them over toys, clothes, food, sleeping place or anything. Stronger ones use to gain the benefits while the weaker ones had to give their things up. Slowly this had caused gangs and groups being formed over here.

Though Father Wilfred had tried numerous times to break such things up his his efforts were gone up in wind. Groups had been formed which fought each other for all the things and use to bully the weak ones.

Though Keiran and Leo had good strength and fought well too, they never joined any group and fought only if someone came for their belongings. Most of the times they were beaten up but still they manage to grab some stuff one way or the another. But things changed when they became 10 years old.

When one became 10 year old in this world they were able to awake their spiritual beasts. All they required was enough Mana in their body to awake the beast lying in dormant condition.

Though this was not a problem in majority regions with higher mana concentrations. But it was a huge problem in Zone 1 regions like New Zealand. The air and earth here weren't dense enough with Mana and the result, people born here had less amount of Mana in their core resulting in very rare awakening of spiritual beasts. 1 in 1000 people was able to awake them.

Mana Core was something like a prism which stored Mana in it. It was located near heart but didn't have a physical form. It only had a spiritual form you could sense it in your mind along with the flow of Mana in your body.

It changed colour according to the amount of Mana stored in it. It ranged from Violet to Red in terms of colour with Violet being the highest and Red the lowest. These seven levels of Mana Core similarly as the spectrum of light were further divided into three grades. The three grades were of the same colour level except the shades which differed.

Normal people were born with a colorless Mana Core which was the lowest grade. To awaken one's spirit beast naturally a core of Crimson colour the mid grade of Red level was required.

When spirit beast awaken's it enhances the person in basic aspects. It strengthens and toughens their body, enhances their vision and hearing, increases stamina, etc. Similarly the awakened people were held in high regard and were given good posts by the government of New Zealand. This posts depended upon the power of the individual.

Academies and Education Complexes had awakening ceremony when students reached 10 years. Similarly when Keiran and Leo became 10 year old respectively, they under went this ceremony and awakened.

Keiran had awakened with a bright Red core (highest grade in Red level) and had a Black Scale Viper as his beast. A year later Leo awakened with a Crimson Core with a Grey Rock Elephant as his beast.

Two kids awakening at the outskirts of Zone 1 was a joyous occasion. Not only the church but the whole village was celebrating. Academy had put them in special classes with a specialised course for their quick development.

With the awakening came the enhanced strengths and with the enhanced bodies came a huge change in the orphanage. Both took on the gangs in orphanage together and beat the hell out of all of them. They looted all the belongings for them from all these gangs.

These instances changed the reputation for both of them in orphanage. They had the first preference while doing all tasks. And as Rex use to be with them, he also gained the prestige with them.

When they reached 16 years of age Keiran was given a scholarship to attend the Educational Institute in the capital of New Zealand - Wellington. While Leo was given the opportunity of Dunedin the biggest city in state of Otago.

First Keiran left and a year later Leo commenced his journey from Kronor. Rex was just 9 years old when Leo went for his further studies.Rex cried for hours after they left. He was left alone in the orphanage.

Though the orphanage had large number of children but Rex who used to stay always with Keiran and Leo wasn't familiar with any of them. While Rex who was riding on fake reputation wasn't ready to make any friends.

Also others were afraid of the reputation of brothers thought that Rex would also awaken and gain powers. So though Rex was ordinary, no one tried to mess with him. This caused Rex to be a loner.

A year later Rex had become 10 year old. That fateful day something happened which was going to change his whole life.
