The Rise Of True Magic

Chapter 17 - Incompetent Subordinates

"Sir Arnadus don't you think we have been too harsh on the poor child." The maid asked as she put the forms in order before handing it over to him.

"Oh! How so? I asked her courteously, but she was the one who just had to be stubborn." Arnadus replied.

"But look at her, it's as if she has lost her soul." The maid stated as she indicated at the girl known as Nightingale who was staring blankly into space while mumbling some nonsense.

"I don't see what she is even upset about, I had my eyes closed the entire time you were taking her measurements. Not to mention I didn't even move from this spot throughout the ordeal, therefore I don't see why she would call me a pervert." Arnadus said as he looked at the neatly filled form.

"Well, It's not every day a girl shares her entire life events with some stranger after all." The maid spoke her mind as she bows one last time before leaving.

"How long are you going to mop like a child and here I thought that you were a courage's and strong-willed women. Regardless, we still have a lot to do." Arnadus said, "So get your act together."

"I will not forget this humiliation! How dare you force me to confess things that you had no right of knowing." Nightingale exploded.

Arnadus sighed as he turned his back to her, "You have your priorities. I have mine. What you consider important secrets are nothing but trash in front of my eyes. So, what If I know your entire history. What can you do about it? I have been told to extract everything there is to know about you which I have accomplished. Not to mention you are now a part of the military, therefore, no one will trust you until a background check has been done. Thus, that hurdle has also been removed and there is nothing that is blocking your way from moving upwards."

"Does it look like I care. You make it sound as If I should be thankful to you for taking my freedom away." The Nightingale snarled.

"But are you not looking for a place to call home." Arnadus calmly said.

"Who are you trying to fool do you really think that we witches will be accepted by the very people who consider as servants of the devil. Rather, they will be the first to capture and hand us over to the church for a few pieces of gold." Nightingale snapped.

"And here you are serving in his majesties army in one piece." Arnadus began, "And Didn't you want to know how I made you spill your deepest darkest secrets without the slightest of hesitation."

"Yah Right as if you are going to tell me." Nightingale scoffed.

Arnadus didn't bother to reply but the presence of 10 majestic magical runes behind his back left her go into shock. She could do nothing but stare wide-eyed at the bland display of magic that demanded her respect. Just as her strength was about to collapse under the pressure the runes disappeared without a trace.

"From this moment onwards, you will be my apprentice and a citizen of his majesties domain," Arnadus stated.

However, her mind just could not process the impossibility of the act that just took place, therefore, had to temporarily shut down.

"Is this how you recruit your apprentices Arnadus." Garen spoke as he finally decided to grace them with his appearance, "Even though his majesty ordered you to report everything there is to know about the girl. You didn't have to take it that literally. I fear for the people that have to suffer through your future recruitment sessions."

"Everybody is a critic," Arnadus replied as he turned to meet his gaze.

"Come now don't be so serious. I really did enjoy the show, by the way, so you have my thanks. Well, take good care of her because I think his majesty might have a took a liking for her." Garen said before taking his leave. Arnadus didn't bother to comment on his colleague's shameless behavior.

Back in the town hall, Roland had to bear barvo's shameless behavior of overly praising himself. Today Roland had learned that there are people in the world that won't mind being called shameless as long as they can get what they want.

"… Therefore, your Majesty, I think I have earned the right to learn magic." Barov finally managed to finish is compassionate speech.

"Ahh! Yes, thank you for your hard work." Roland instinctively replied as if he the man had his full and complete attention the entire time, "I will try my best to get you, someone, to teach you the basic but unfortunately be could not spare a single person right now."

Barov had high hopes for his majesty rewarding him for his hard work but It seems that he would have to put more effort before his efforts are acknowledged.

"Sir here the report about the girl that you wanted." A random character stated as he entered the office.

"Put it on my desk." Roland replied, "Is there anything else Barov."

"No, your Majesty." Barov bowed before leaving as he had not survived this long in politics by not recognizing a dismissal.

Finally getting rid of barov, Roland finally finishes the paperwork in peace, but his curiosity eventually got the better of him.

Picking up the report Roland began to Read as he took a sip of his tea. However, the tea had to spit right out as he read the report about her b.r.e.a.s.t size, Three sizes, favorite type of p.a.n.t.i.e.s and color etc.

Roland calmly put the report back on his desk before leaning back on his chair.

"I Truly have incompetent subordinates."
