Chapter 132 Law-Abiding Spider-man

However, after driving through a couple of blocks, Peter involuntarily furrowed his brows. 

His Spidey-sense told him that not far behind him was a black sedan that had been sneakily following him for a while. After realizing a car was following him, he kept an eye out for it. 

He decided not to head to Mary Jane’s company, instead, he turned left at the t-junction ahead. As expected, the black sedan also turned left, maintaining a certain distance behind him. This time, Peter was certain that someone was aiming at him.

It was rare to see Mr. Erwin lately and Peter wasn’t sure if he was in the underground lab or not. While Teacher Bucky was either training his goons at Mingde Street or in the company’s security department.

But most of El Tech Company’s employees were ordinary people and it was time for them to leave. The company’s entrance was bustling with people. On the contrary, the evening of Mingde Street was rather quiet as it hadn’t yet ushered in the peak traffic period.

After some consideration, Peter immediately made a U-turn, heading into Hell’s Kitchen, straight at Mingde Street. Two cars, one at the front while another behind dived into Hell’s Kitchen. After several twists and turns, they were approaching Mingde Street soon.

By then, the black sedan had noticed Peter realizing the anomaly. It suddenly accelerated and took a shortcut before appearing before his car.

Peter was grumbling while pulling out the Spidey suit he stashed in the car, preparing to suit up. All of a sudden, he saw the black sedan before him opening the door and a woman in black tights came out. Moreover, the woman had an ID in her hand and shook it at him.

Seeing the stars and stripes on the ID, Peter hesitated for a bit before stashing the suit back.

Right now, he was rather puzzled as to what’s the problem with his woman. 

‘She looks like a government agent, maybe she’s a traffic officer? But I didn’t break any law! And what kind of traffic officer looks like that?!’

Nevertheless, the law-abiding Peter still politely exited the car while maintaining his wariness.

“Who are you?” Peter asked.

“Natasha Romanoff, S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent.” Natasha had no intention of concealing her identity. If Ivan Avatar was truly in El Tech Company, then it was pointless for her to hide. If he wasn’t, then she would directly use the government’s related document, making her work more convenient within America.

“S.H.I.E.L.D.? What kind of agency is that?” Peter never heard of it behind, thus the suspicion.

“Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement, and Logistics Division. It’s an independent agency. It’s normal if you’ve never heard of it.” Natasha came with good intentions and didn’t mind explaining to Peter.

“Mr. Peter Parker, I have no intention of lying to you. S.H.I.E.L.D. exist. You’re free to check it yourself in the future. Just treat me as a kind of special officer.” Although Natasha spoke with assurance, Peter wouldn’t believe her that easily.

He questioned tentatively, “Even if you’re a cop from whatever that S.H.I.E.L.D., I’m a law-abiding citizen. I didn’t break any laws, so why are you secretly following me and even blocking my path?”

“Mr. Parker, are you the one in charge of this prosthesis?” Natasha pulled out a photo from her pocket. It was the mechanical prosthesis Peter designed.

Peter nodded with uncertainty.

“S.H.I.E.L.D. suspects you are endangering the country’s homeland security. Please cooperate with me.” Natasha said solemnly.

Peter, “?!” ‘I just made a prosthesis, how is that related to homeland security?! Don’t spout nonsense!’

“Don’t try to scare me!” Peter’s trust in Natasha plummeted instantly. “Get out of my way now, or else I’m calling the cops!”

“According to our inspection and confirmation, the technology utilized in the prosthesis in the photo was similar to a weapon used by a national-threatening being.” Natasha didn’t make way and continued questioning, “Mr. Parker, please answer truthfully. Where did you get the relevant technology?”

A thought suddenly popped into Peter’s mind, ‘This woman, is she finding trouble for Mr. Erwin?’

Peter didn’t possess any sense of trust for Natasha and wouldn’t believe any of her nonsense!

‘Mr. Erwin is a national-threatening being?! Then, the street punks are trying to cause a coup d’etat!’ He couldn’t resist complaining in his heart.

Seeing Peter remain silent, Natasha urged, “Mr. Parker, please cooperate with the investigation.”

“The prosthesis is the independent research and invention of mine. Do I look like that national-threatening being?” Facing Natasha’s pestering, Peter was getting impatient.

“Of course, you’re not. I know that person!” Natasha said.

“Since that’s the case, can I leave now?” Peter shrugged.

“I’m afraid not.” Natasha placed the photo back into her pocket. “If you choose not to cooperate, then I have the right to detain you for further investigation.” To be frank, she was bluffing. While she did have the right to mobilize the local police force, the S.H.I.E.L.D. certainly would notice her movements if she did that. This would contradict Fury’s request for a covert operation. Therefore, she would only act alone without searching for any external help.

“I’m calling my lawyer now.” Suppressing his anger, Peter spoke in a low voice. He was preparing to stall Natasha while thinking of a way to contact Matt. With Matt’s intelligence, he surely would know what to do.

“You can after we reach the precinct.” But Natasha was closing in. “Or, you can tell me where you get that tech. Then, you’ll clear your name for now.”

If it was any normal law-abiding American, they probably would comply when facing this situation, but Peter was normal. So, he disregarded Natasha’s threats. Nonetheless, Peter’s attitude also chose to not act violently toward Natasha. Instead, he chose to run!

‘I’ll head to Mingde Street first and see if Teacher Bucky is there or not. If not, I’ll call Mr. Erwin and let him decide how to handle this matter.’ With this thought, Peter instantly turned around and ran.

Momentarily, Natasha was stunned by Peter’s abrupt action before snapping out of it and shouting, “Mr. Parker, you’re resisting arrest! Stop now!”

But how could Peter listen to her, he sped up instead. No matter how fast he was running, he consciously limited his speed and was running with the speed of an ordinary person.

The same didn’t apply to Natasha. In an instant, she almost reached Peter’s back with her explosive speed and was going to lock Peter’s arm

Without turning around, Peter’s Spidey-sense told him an assault was coming from behind. On top of that, it was too aggressive, unlike ordinary people’s strength! Natasha’s speed was too fast and he knew it was too late for him to speed up. Therefore, he raised his hand and shot webs out, pulling himself up from the ground.

After avoiding Natasha’s assault, Peter stopped running. Facing a series of events, right now, he didn’t believe Natasha was a government agent. Hence, he decisively chose to take Natasha down, bringing her back to Mr. Erwin.

With this in mind, Peter descended from the sky and delivered a heavy dropkick onto Natasha’s head. His Spidey-sense told him the woman before him wasn’t any normal person. Her strength was powerful. So, he didn’t hold back and used his full strength.

Natasha’s gut feeling was strong. She instantly discerned this kick carried a huge amount of momentum and couldn’t be resisted. Right away, she leaped a couple of steps back, dodging the attack.

Boom!

As if a cannon exploding noise, the ground was shattered by Peter, leaving a diameter of two-meter wide crater behind. Debris was scattered all over the places and clouds of dust were floating everywhere.

“Spider-man?!”

After the dust settled, Natasha stared at Peter, who was in the middle of the crater, filled with confusion,

Remaining silent, Peter charged at Natasha, launching another attack.

In close combat, Natasha was rather confident in it. In an instant, she began exchanging blows with Peter.

In these past few months, Peter’s combat techniques had risen by leaps and bounds under Bucky’s tutelage. Although he wasn’t as good as Natasha’s countless years of training, returning a few blows was still possible.

Moreover, Peter’s strength was far greater than Natasha and he also had his webs. After the two of them fought for a while, he surprisingly slowly had the upper hand.
