Chapter 131 Black Widow’s Sudden Visit

TL: Kyous

Ever since Nick Fury was transferred away by Alexander Pierce, no one in S.H.I.E.L.D. interacted with Natasha. Or rather, no one dares to assign missions to her.

In fact, when Fury was transferred away, she also wanted to go to San Francisco. But FUry refused her and said with a solemn voice, “I recruited you to prepare you for self-standing, not to be a lackey of mine. Moreover, there are definitely H.Y.D.R.A. spies within S.H.I.E.L.D. So stay and keep an eye out for me, it would be best if you can identify some of them.”

With this, she followed Fury’s suggestion and stayed behind. However, more than six months went by, she still couldn’t stand up by herself, not to mention pinpointing any H.Y.D.R.A. spies.

On top of that, S.H.I.E.L.D. higher-ups didn’t assign her any task, even the most ordinary ones.

Natasha these kinds of days were truly boring. Being hunted by the Soviet Union was much more interesting!

The bored Natasha could only vent her energy to other places. Every day she was tirelessly training her combat skills and marksmanship. At the beginning of her training, those young men in the base who saw a gorgeous lady were enthusiastic to accompany her for training. But after the number of people with bruises and broken bones piled up, no one dare to talk to her again!

“Sigh, another boring day!” Natasha wrapped up for today’s training and returned to her dorm drenched with sweats.

After showering with cold water and draping a bathrobe, she curled her legs and squatted on the sofa. She pulled a delicate silver-colored handgun from a drawer before repeatedly disassembling and reassembling it.

Dring~ Dring~ Dring~

The phone on the table before her suddenly rang. Lifting her hand and glancing at the incoming numbers, she proficiently reassembled the handgun before picking up the call.

“Hello.” On the other end was a deep male voice. “Agent Romanoff, how have you been lately?”

“Not bad. I eat and drink properly every day. Not a single mission and not even a single spy.” Natasha sounded languid, void of any excitement.

The caller was Fury. Every month he would call Natasha to inquire about her well-being, but mostly were chattering about pointless stuff. This was the seventh call, she had no interest in having a meaningful talk and expressed her dissatisfaction with her current life.

Hearing Natasha’s temperament, Fury laughed, “Has it been too boring?”

“Why bother asking?” Natasha shifted her position, allowing her to talk on the phone more comfortably. “Is there any mission for me to work on? My bones are going to rust if I don’t move around a bit.” She was just casually asking without having any expectation of missions from Fury.

For these past few months, Fury was dispatched to monitor Pym Technologies in San Francisco. He was also bored, just like how Natasha was.

But unexpectedly, Fury discussed missions with Natasha. He didn’t state the mission directly, instead, he said, “Agent Romanoff, I’ve sent several pictures to you. Go and have a look first.”

Natasha was immediately interested. She opened her computer and downloaded the pictures Fury sent. Clicking on the first picture, what appeared on the screen was a metal prosthesis arm.

“Officer Fury, is your arm broken? This prosthesis looks quite fine!” Natasha teased Fury.

While Fury on the other end choked and replied impatiently, “Stop the nonsense, continue looking on.”

“Oh!” Retracting her smile, she browsed through every picture carefully. “Huh? I feel like seeing this before…” She thought for a moment.

“Looks rather familiar, right?” Fury asked. “The technology used on this prosthesis is extremely similar to the pair of mechanical arms you brought back from H.Y.D.R.A. base back then.”

Natasha was smart and instantly understood Fury’s meaning. “You suspect it’s that Ivan Avatar is the inventor of this prosthesis?”

“I can’t be sure, but at least he’s involved in this.” Fury confidently declared.

Licking her lips, she said, “Where’s the company that manufactured this prosthesis? I’ll go and have a look.”

“That’s the reason I’m calling you.” Fury said. “The company’s name is El Tech Company and it’s located in Hell’s Kitchen, New York City. The one in charge of this project is Peter Parker. As for the company’s real boss, there’s no news about it. The time is too limited and there aren’t enough hands around me.”

“Just the location is enough!” Natasha was slightly excited. “I finally have the chance to meet him again. I’m very curious about him.”

“Also, the operation this time is a secret, so don’t act too obvious. I will cover you from here.” Fury reminded her.

Natasha promised and pondered for a bit before asking, “Oh right, if Ivan Avatar is truly in that whatever El Tech Company, what attitude should we use to approach him?”

“If it’s you, what would you do instead?” Fury answered with a question.

“Personally, I have no ill will against him. After all, he did save my life. Besides, he doesn’t seem to be an enemy.”

“Likewise.” Fury chuckled, “If you discovered traces of Ivan Avatar, make sure to report back to me. I still wish to talk about some business with him.”

“Understood, don’t worry about it.” Natasha casually replied before suddenly recalling something and frowned, “If we can discover the problem with the prosthesis, sure the S.H.I.E.L.D. will too, right? I remembered you took the mechanical arms I brought back to the research lab for tests to be done, right?”

“Hehe.” Fury laughed somewhat sinisterly. “That pair of ruined mechanical arms right now is in the hidden locker underneath my a*s! I just took it that time and didn’t do any tests on it. Except for you and I, no one else knows about mechanical arms.”

“That’s great! Help me to approve the fieldwork, I can leave immediately.” Natasha was decisive with her work, unwilling to waste any seconds.

“You can leave now. Don’t worry about the field work’s application. I’ll settle it for you.”

“Will it attract unnecessary troubles?”

Fury let out a soft chuckle, “Although I’ve been transferred out, I still have this bit of authority.”

……

The following evening, at El Tech Company.

It was time to get off work. Peter walked out from the company’s entrance in a spirited manner. Along the way, from the beautiful receptionist lady to the burly Violet Fist, everyone was greeting him with a smile.

The words “Chief Parker” were music to his ears.

Although Peter wasn’t someone who greeds for money and power, the moment money and power truly were within his grasp…

MARVELOUS!

It was the feeling of success!

The feeling of success was extremely satisfying for one. Recently, Peter felt his life was fulfilling. Not only he succeeded in the prosthesis project, but even his love life was a bountiful harvest.

Last week, when he visited Aunt May with Mary Jane, Aunt May had joked about her engaging with Peter. He was even more pleased when Mary Jane didn’t turn down!

Moreover, after the discussion between Aunt May and Mary Jane’s mother, the engagement date also had been set. It was set on the weekend two weeks later!

With his career and love life both being fruitful, Peter already felt his life was gradually climbing to its peak. On top of that, his work right now, when viewed as a big picture, might allow human civilization to take a huge step!

Compared to the glorious cause of “beating punks on the streets”, his job right now carried a bigger significance!

Peter didn’t oppose this kind of life. On the contrary, he preferred this way of life even better. For example, right now, Mary Jane was having overtime today and he was going to fetch her at her company.

If this was from before, how should Peter squeeze out the time…?

Thinking about this, everything was too unimaginable!

‘Everything changed when he met Mr. Erwin. He really is my lucky star!’ Peter exclaimed with admiration internally while heading towards the car park next to the company before opening his car’s door.

The car was brand new. After purchasing the car, Peter realized he still had a surprising amount of savings left. He and Mary Jane were discussing buying a house in the area after engaging. If there wasn’t enough money, they would pay the down payment first. At the very least, they would have their own home.

Fantasizing his beautiful future, Peter drove the car towards Mary Jane’s company.
