*Song Xie POV*

Ever since my sister got sick due to that fever, and survived thanks to the grace of the gods, she has been acting very strange. She eats the same way she would and has the same voice and body, but her mannerisms and the way she acts are completely different.

Before, she wouldn't even eat with us and bully us and especially poor Bin'er (our youngest brother). But now she even called Hui cute. She apologized for the way she acted before and right now, that's all mother talks about.

Just Lai'er did this and Lai'er did that. Father has started to become very suspicious of her. But he told me that she grinds the ink the way she usually does, except she doesn't talk to him anymore.

And when has she started to climb trees? She was sitting on a tree in broad daylight and then she apologized to me after getting a bit angry, leaving me speechless.

She also got a teacher to help her learn some defence martial arts. The way she looks at him makes me feel absolutely disgusted. She is a 12 year old girl and he is over thirty. She shouldn't be looking like that at him.

Today was the day we visit Lady Hai Fang, our respected grandmother. Already, she started to surprise is before the trip even started. Her clothes were nothing like she wore before. But I'm not complaining, she looks better in these new, less flashy clothing. She also had very little makeup on, except for some light eye liner, which I suspect was put on her with struggle. In short, she looked very pretty and prettier than before.

When a maid tried to help her up into the carriage, she denied her help and got up into it by herself. My father looked at me and nodded. We had a silent agreement to watch her.

When we arrive, I had the task of helping her down from the carriage, but she frowned at me and slapped my hand away, and walked behind mother and father. I shook myself out of my daze and hurriedly walked beside her. When we went into the hall, we did our customary greetings to the Lady. I bowed and said, 'Xie greets Lady Hai and wishes her health and a long life'

She smiled at me and said, "What a sweet and filial child, alright go sit now."

I went to sit next to father and we both watch how Laing greets grandmother. She curteseys first like she has always done. Then she says, "Laing wishes grandmother longevity and hopes grandmother has peace in life".

She then bows and respectfully walks back to her seat. Everyone's mouths are dropping, as they are surprised to see Lai'er not making a scene. Father had a frown on his face and mother looked like she was going to cry again.

Father made a toast to grandmother, and while everyone else was drinking their wine elegantly, my sister drank it in one shot. A look of perplexity came over her. Father and I are still watching her while we drink. Grandmother eventually orders the servants to proceed with the feast. Everyone is enjoying the food, but Lai'er hasn't touched hers. She is asking for a refill for her wine cup every few minutes. Father and I have a silent agreement to not stop her from over indulging herself in wine. We wish to see what she will do.

Eventually while everyone is focused on the entertainment dancers, Laing casually gets up and walks outside. Father and I follow silently behind her, and manage not to attract the attention of everyone at the feast.

Outside, she is walking towards a maid. The maid is not bad looking and she is doing her job of lighting lamps when she notices Laing. The maid gasps in shock, drops what she is doing and kneels before Lai'er, begging her forgiveness. My sister is flushed and slightly woozy, and looks very displeased. She forces the maid to stand up, and the maid helps her sit on a bench.

I am about to go get my sister, when my father pulls me back into the shadows, gesturing for me to keep watching. We curiously look on as Lai'er leans on the maid with a silly smile on her face. To our absolute horror she leans in and kisses the maid on her lips. The maid is too terrified to do anything, when suddenly Laing's eyes roll back into her head and she falls backwards.

Without needing to say anything, my father and I rush towards her and manage to catch her in time, so her body doesn't touch the ground. She is flushed and mumbles subconsciously.

It is a bunch of nonsense, and my father picks her up in his arms and heads towards the carriage. The maid is frozen and unresponsive, with a petrified expression on her face. I don't blame her, having my sister kiss you must be a traumatic experience.

She suddenly wakes in my father's arm and realises she's being carried by him. She smiles at him with a dreamy look on his face. Then without warning, her eyes widen and she suddenly becomes sober. Lai'er jumps down from father's arms much to his surprise.

"Someone get me some sobering soup," my father orders a guard that was nearby.

While the guard runs into the kitchen to get the soup, I help Laing sit somewhere comfortable. She rubs her eyes and sees our very cool expressions. She sighs very deeply as she remembers her unmentionable deeds.
