PS I'm Over You

Chapter 99 - A Nightmare from the Past

Yelan didn't know if she should hide or accompany her best friend to pick up their grandson at his school. She sat quietly in the backseat of their car, watching and waiting for Yuna and Skyler at the school gates.

She had a grandson! Ririna got pregnant when she just barely reached eighteen? Goddamnit, Ririna was too young to become a mother. She felt like pulling her hair from their roots when Yuna told her about it. Her shock of finding out about Skyler still made her feel like an idiot.

At least Yuna's son married her little princess or else she would've had taken her hidden shotgun and blasted Eli's head (it didn't matter which head) if he didn't take responsibility.

"Why didn't you tell me she had a child?" she asked the man who was seated on the driver's seat beside her.

The man lit a cigarette before puffing a smoke outside his window.

His age was hard to tell but he was probably in his mid-forties. He had short, wavy black hair that has streaks of gray strands, a set of droopy eyes, and a chiseled jawline that made him look mysterious and attractive at the same time. His grey suit was well made and well pressed like it could make a cut.

"Do I have to?" Daniel Shao replied with a gloom in his face. He had done everything in his capabilities to protect and help Yelan. Didn't she trust him?

"Yes!" Yelan grimaced. "I told you I need to know everything about Ririna and Jared but you keep on hiding important details like this to me!" Yelan insisted.

"I have saved your daughter and kept her away from him. Wasn't that enough?"

The crease between his thick eyebrows deepened.

"I already know about that and I'm indebted to you for saving Ririna. But why did you hide this information from me? I thought we were partners?"

Daniel tapped the steering wheel with his fingers.

"Hmm… Your daughter has paid a huge sum of money to hide the identity of her child. You do know what will happen to the kid if she didn't do it." Daniel puffed another smoke and rested his arm on the car's window.

"Of course now her husband has put it onto the next level. No trace of Skyler Han or Skyler Park in any government offices. Even his school records were falsified. He even hired someone to locate each lower rank mercenaries and families who knew about their kid and let them choose their fate."

It was either to shut up and forget about Skyler Han or shut up for eternity ten feet below the ground.

Only a few of the big sharks and predators knew about Skyler Han, the devil's spawn.

"But you should have told me. What else do I have to know about my family?"

She was gone for too long. Sixteen years. She had abandoned her children to survive and get away from Hattori's web. She felt useless and weak. There were times she hoped she was dead to save her children from further pain because of her.

Hattori had shot her twice on her back and to make sure she would not survive after forcing her to swallow a pill. It was only after Daniel rescued her that they found out it was a kind of poison that she hadn't develop an antidote yet. She wondered how Hattori managed to take a sample of it.

He was relentless and insane. The poisonous pill was enough to make her legally blind for five years and it also made her lose her voice for a year. When she heard from Daniel that Ririna became a mute after her supposed death, she knew Ririna was given the same poison with lesser dosage.

It was all her fault. She should've killed the current Hattori Ikeda years ago instead of saving him. If she could turn back time, she would not have saved him and treated his injuries. His irrational obsession with her started all these problems.

Daniel looked at her, contemplating if he should tell her everything he gathered so far. He didn't want her to make decisions on a whim and recklessly just like what she had done before.

"Aside from Skyler Han? Let's see… your ex-husband is currently lying on his deathbed, and your son is coming back next weekend. Your daughter is with her husband on the Eastern Province. I think that's all you need to know."

"What about him?" She meant the wretched Hattori, "I don't believe he will pass his title on just like that. He fought you neck and neck for that damned title."

Years ago, Yelan Han, Daniel Shao and his older twin brother, Samuel Shao who later became the current Hattori Ikeda fought for the title. Just like how Ririna Han, Hiro Liu, and Kian Huang faced the competition as the second generation of successors.

"This is just a game for him. Why do you think he's trying to kill or get your daughter?"

"Because of me?"

Daniel shook his head. It wasn't the only motive of his older brother.

"No, because he is also stricken with a terminal disease. He needs Ririna's blood to survive."

Yelan flinched in her seat. She previously altered Ririna's blood because of her weak body. Not that she used her daughter as another guinea pig for her research, but she was forced to find new medicines for Ririna's weak metabolism.

Because of her studies and new inventions, she was able to produce new drugs that could cure rare diseases. She wasn't able to complete her researches though.

"I also think it's his way to lure you out. Got a hunch that he knows you're still alive somewhere."

He kept his eyes to the crowd that was starting to form outside Skyler's school.

Yelan followed his gaze. When she saw Yuna leave the school premises with a little boy beside her, she turned her body to the right side to see the face of her grandchild clearly.

Just like what Yuna told her, Skyler Park was like the mini version of his father. From his dark locks, grey eyes and skin tone, Skyler got most of his features from Eli.

Skyler was talking to Yuna with a big smile on his face. His Mama Yuna looked amused at his babblings and laughed. That smile made Yelan ache. Skyler's smile and his cute dimples were the same as Ririna's.

"Mommy!" She could hear Ririna's voice from her memories.

A memory of Ririna as a child flashed through her mind. Her little girl playing in their garden, running around in her pale pink dress and trying to catch a butterfly. She missed her daughter so much but she knew that if she showed up without a warning, she would become another problem Ririna had to deal with.

Ririna would probably hate her when she found out that she survived and left the country. Her daughter had suffered because of her. The guilt was so great, she felt like she didn't have any right to be called a mother.

----

"Are you sure you don't want to meet Skyler?" Yuna asked.

She had already help Skyler to sleep for the night while Yelan was waiting for her in her study room. When she was done with Skyler, she found Yelan deep in her thoughts, a wine glass in her hands while standing near the windows, her face shadowed with moonlight.

"Not today. Maybe next time," she replied before swirling her drink.

Her thought still on her children and how she f.u.c.k.e.d up their lives.

"How about Ririna?" Yuna leaned on the wall near the windowsill. Her eyes searching for answers in Yelan's face.

"I don't think I can face her this time. Not with all the horrible things she went through because of me." Yelan replied.

"Daniel did a great job of hiding you away from Samuel's prying eyes."

When Yuna first met Yelan years ago, Yelan was still a young apprentice in the research center the Song family established while Yuna was still new on managing their businesses and was sent to the research center to do a monthly report.

She couldn't understand why Yelan left her family business and chose to become a researcher instead. She was the Big Miss of the Han family, so why would she abandon her post for another career path?

"I'm indebted to him. He was also in his lowest point when he found me half dead in my own burning house," Yelan started. She couldn't remember everything that happened on Ririna's seventh birthday. She doesn't even know how Daniel found out that she and Ririna were attacked that night.

"He then tracked where Ririna was and infiltrated Samuel's place to rescue her..."

Yuna then thought about why they couldn't find Ririna's whereabouts after the incident.

"Why the orphanage though? Could have been better if he took Ririna with you," she voiced out her confusion.

"He said it would be better to keep Ririna's safety and away from his brother's eyes. Samuel's focus was on me and Daniel and to keep Ririna close will put her in danger."

It took her several months to find Yelan's missing child only to find out that her son picked her up from a local orphanage. When Eli took in the eight-year-old girl, he somehow saved her from Samuel's vile and despicable plans for the child.

The problems they had years ago still existed and had been passed on to their children. A nightmare from the past that still haunted them. While the Song family didn't do any businesses in the Underworld, their deep connection with the top mercenaries was still enough to get them involved.
