PS I'm Over You

Chapter 80 - The Only Exception

It took two days for Eli's team to clean up the mess and turn everything back to normal in Ririna's office. The death of the first contender for the title of the next Hattori spread like a wildfire in the Underworld community.

To think that Kian was injured by the witch and killed himself in desperation surprised the Underworld. The topic and arguments were up for weeks. The devil and witch's tandem was back on track.

The death of Kian sent Erica be to devastated and in grief. Although she knew he would be killed, she didn't expect that he would take his own life. Did he kill himself to save her from guilt? Did he know that no matter what happened, she would still get hurt?

Ririna gave her time to grieve for her dead father and brother. It may take some time for her to recover but Ririna understood the pain and suffering Erica had to endure at the moment.

It was late morning when Eli and Ririna arrived at her office and started sorting and cleaning. Rion also arrived to help them and to see if the finished paintings and artworks were destroyed.

Eli was in the control room, checking every detail and the surveillance videos from the last attack. He was feeling quite in debt for Evan's help as his younger brother took the initiative to look out for Skyler while he and Ririna were busy checking the damages and securing her workplace.

His eyes were glued to the video where it showed Kian arriving at Ririna's office and how Kian claimed she shouldn't be with him. Eli then wondered if he was worthy enough for Ririna's affection. Kian was driven into insanity by his love for Ririna, his feelings for her were so overwhelming that he could understand why Kian ended up with his obsession.

If Ririna didn't return his feeling, would he have ended up like Kian?

No. He would rather let her go and see her be happy than to harm her.

"I'm aware of that but how sure are you that he has already changed for the better? How sure are you that he will never make you cry again? He's the devil himself, Ririna." Kian's voice could be heard from the recording.

Had he changed for the better? When Ririna left him years ago, it drove him into depression. He had tried everything to forget about her and even told himself he didn't care. But the truth could never be denied, he was nothing without her by his side.

"I care about him," Ririna replied to Kian. Her voice was filled with conviction. "I'll continue to care and love him whatever happens."

His heart skipped a beat. This woman. How could this woman love someone like him? Even if he had hurt her before, she still stood up for him.

"You can't dissuade me of this. For all of you, you can see him as the devil, but for me, he is a man. My man. Whatever he did in the past was his to deal with and you have no right to constantly rub it on his face. He can continue to improve himself even if people like you try to stop him. There is no better man for me except for him."

Yes. To everyone, he is the devil. A cold, ruthless, cruel man who could kill. Some feared him and some wanted him dead. But for Ririna to stake a claim on him as her man, Eli couldn't believe that she would choose him above the rest.

His father abandoned him, choosing his new family. His mother was too broken to look after him. Eli knew that he had no place in both of his parents' life and decided to lived alone with his butler. Love was a foreign emotion he never experienced with anyone.

He had learned to accept that he would be alone and distant from everyone. That his life would only revolve around his job as a mercenary and a businessman. His day starting early in the morning, working on the doc.u.ments and contracts for their company and going home late at night with no one waiting for him.

Women threw themselves at him because of his looks and money. They confessed their undying love to him just to trap him. It seemed everyone only sought him for what he had and not because of who he was.

And then he met that little girl at the orphanage. The little girl who saw him as a hero and adored him as a man. And now, that little girl grew up to become a beautiful woman loved him in spite of his imperfection and gave him a child he never thought he could learn to love.

This same woman who never failed to amaze him. He would take all the risk to be with her, even if he had to fight against the world.

She was the only exception from everyone. She loved him unconditionally.

He left the control room in a daze. Her words kept playing over and over in his mind.

'I care about him. I'll continue to care and love him whatever happens.'

'You can't dissuade me of this. For all of you, you can see him as the devil, but for me, he is a man. My man.'

He really wanted to see her right now. To know that she needed him like he needed her. He wanted to embrace her tight and never let her go.

Eli found Ririna in her office, once again arguing with Rion about the ruined doc.u.ments on his desk and it seemed like she's winning the argument.

"For f*ck's sake Rion! Just ask Sara for the duplicate copies!" Ririna insisted.

Rion stilled his movements before looking away from Ririna.

"What? You still haven't talked to her? Oh dear," she then laughed at her friend's reaction.

Ririna noticed Eli's presence at the doorway and wondered what was wrong with him. He was unusually silent and had a weird look on his face. She turned to Rion and bid him goodbye and walked towards Eli.

She pulled him outside and brought him to the other room. Her eyes were warm and the smile on her face left him speechless. He watched their intertwined hands as she led him on.

The look on his face made her stop and she frowned. Curious and a little worried that something had happened, she softly called out his name.

"Eli? Something's wrong?" she asked.

Eli shook his head and sighed. It wouldn't be right to make her worry about simple things such as this. He shifted, moving closer to her, invading her privacy. Slowly, he brushed away her short hair to the side of her face. Her cheeks flushed red for his sudden closeness but she didn't pull away.

She gasped when his hand tangled itself to her hair and pulled her face closer to him. Their lips brushed softly against each other then he pressed and he kissed her reverently before pulling away.

He buried his face on the crook of her neck, his eyes closed as he smelt her light fragrance.

"There's nothing to worry about." he murmured.

Ririna's hand touched the top of his head. She ran her fingers through his dark locks. She was quite sure he found something that made him act like this but if he said that everything was okay, she could only trust his words.

"If you say so," she replied.

His body relaxed in her embrace. Her small stature was engulfed by his larger frame but she accepted him, knowing that unlike Kian, he wouldn't harm her. No one can hurt her easily when he is around.

They stayed together in each other's arms for a while before he pulled away and looked at her. He tilted up her chin towards him and brushed his lips to hers once more as if he was taking time to feel her lips on his.

Her half-lidded eyes met his grey ones when he pulled away from her.

"Marry me," he whispered to her.

Ririna chuckled at him. What's with his sudden proposal.

"Aren't you forgetting I am already your fiancée?" she asked.

Eli smiled back at her. His grey eyes glimmered with something meaningful that Ririna couldn't understand.

"No. That's not what I mean. Marry me today. Be my wife from this day onwards."
