New World's Empress

"I know what is the problem. It seems the Emperor has many people by his side that hide important issues about his surroundings. If the earth is darker, that means it is very good for planting fruits and vegetables. You know that our Empress always thinks first about people. For people to be hungry by such good land probably made her furious. Such a good land to be wasted while people were dying without food..." He could see her clenching her jaw and her fists as she hit a nearby table with the foot. This time she is really angry.

Xiao Ran sighed as she heard his words. "You know already that her friend is Princess Sora. That girl has already done couple of things. If Her Highness has told her about it, soon the Emperor will know about it. But her anger won't dissipate that fast. Knowing her, she has a plan. I don't want to be in the shoes of those people that she is eyeing now. Just protect her and be silent. What she does and how we will find out in time."

Bai Lu could only silently agree while he watched her pacing around deep in her thoughts. It seems she already was planning to help them. But how can she help everyone?

Liu Mei suddenly stopped as she heard a light knock on the main gate. Bai Lu rushed to open it and saw a young girl bowing politely. "Our miss has a message for your mistress."

He just calmly nodded and took the paper from her and saw her rushing away. He didn't date to open it so he rushed to bring it to Liu Mei.

"What is it?" She was still angry but softened expression as she saw his cautious behavior. "Sorry about my unreasonable rage. It was not meant for you or our people. Get them to rest. I know they want to take good care of me, but I feel uncomfortable if they are tired, hungry and sick. Especially if I have enough food, medicine and possibilities to give them a better life."

Bai Lu knew her mind and just sighed. Their Empress has all people in her heart. The only problem was she is just too softhearted.

"Your Highness, we are trained well or do you think we are one of those weaklings they have here. Some of us are trained from an early age, so don't worry." He tried to explain, but she shook her head stubbornly.

"I am not looking down on your training. Being by his side all of you must have trained more than seriously. But my heart is unchangeable. If there is a way for me to let you live, a bit more comfortable, what is wrong with that?" She almost childishly pouted.

Looking at her expression he almost laughed out loud bit stopped himself. "Let us do our work, please. I promise we all will eat good, sleep good and try to be healthy."

"Then in that case, fine!" She just wanted him to promise such a thing himself and victoriously smiled.

Hua Roulan shook her head. "He has no idea what he got himself into."

Even Xiao Ran had to shake her head. "Doomed. He practically promised. Should we tell him?"

Hua Roulan turned her head and saw one of the guards standing nearby. "Chen, take that fool and tell him that he practically promised to our Empress that he will become your babysitter. If he doesn't stop her now, there will be a problem later on. He should choose his words wisely."

Chen understood the severity of the situation and rushed out. He saw Bai Lu glancing at him and motion that he has to talk to him, immediately.

Bai Lu anyway saw Liu Mei opening the message and rushed to his side. "What is it?"

As he heard what Hua Roulan said his back became cold. They are not small children the soldiers.

They might get hungry, uncomfortable and sick, but that is part of their duty. She would not expect him to hold onto spoken words. Right?

He turned his head and saw Hua Roulan anxiously staring at him. Wait. This can't be right. Will Her Highness really expect from him to treat guards like children?

He turned around swiftly and was about to speak when she saw a cynical smile on her face. Ugh... what happened?

"Good. Very good. Bai Lu, let's pack. Trouble will arise soon in town and I think in this case I don't want to be even nearby when that happens. Hua Roulan, bring me a pen and paper. Zhao, I heard you are fast. Sorry, but you must go and get me Lao San. Tell him its emergency. Fast." Her face became cold as she took the paper and started writing. Whole two pages she wrote and rolled. "Roulan, go to Dora and give her this. Tell her to read it right away."

"Yes." Hua Roulan knew right away something went wrong. But there was no time to ask questions.

She saw Xiao Ran and pointed at the rest of the guards. "Did they eat?"

"Yes. They ate well." Xiao Ran knew her by now. There must be something big for her to act this fast.

Liu Mei turned her head towards Bai Lu. "Send them to Shibai town. They can rest until we arrive. Before that clean all the spies. My order is OBLITERATE!"

Bai Lu looked at her icy eyes swiping the surroundings and knew there must be the reason. With a low whistle, he rushed towards the bushes and the rest of the guards started jumping around and killing a bunch of people that were hiding in the shadows. She didn't have time for interrogations. They must leave as soon as possible.

Bai Lu came back and bowed lightly. "Done."

Without delaying she eaved her hand and started gathering stuff. The tables, recliners, pots, beds, food... Anything she thought they could use. On end, she went to her garden and just gathered the rest of the plants and went to her bedroom.

With a wave of hand, she summoned thick clothes for traveling and for everyone. She actually had already feeling that that fool would send someone to take care of her so she prepared everything in advance.

She pointed at bundles. "Tell your people to wear warm clothes. The place we are going is far. Each of the bundles has some dried food, warm clothes and medicine. They should hurry up and leave. Do they have horses ready?

Bai Lu nodded. " Don't worry, we are always prepared."

"Then hurry up." She saw the guards taking the bundles and rushing out. Soon they disappeared while each had one body in one hand and the thing she prepared in the other.

"I have to admit, they are really fast and strong. Good. Bai Lu brings horses. The two old horses are coming with us. I fear if I let them stay here, someone might eat them in this situation." She knew that in case of hunger, those two well-fed horses would be first to die.

"Understood." He disappeared as well, leaving only Xiao Ran and Liu Mei for a moment alone.

Suddenly a voice could be heard. "Interesting..."
