New World: The Rise Of Meruem

Chapter 8 - Down the kings path

"Is it nearly done?"

I asked standing over a worker who looked completely different from anyone I've ever seen. It appears she/he stood just about 5'11 and had slick snake-like skin. As I spoke, he or she shivered in fear, nearly petrified from my mere presence. Seeing this scene oddly place a seed of happiness in my heart, and nearly stopped my mind from thinking of the wood carrier who now had only 2 minutes left to return with food and drink.

"shit I've unknowingly placed a sword to my own neck. Has my arrogance lead to my first defeat in this new world." The thought amused me somewhat filling my mind with all kinds of scenarios of what id do to the wood carrier who dared to defy my will. Just as I was counting down the last minute, I noticed the little snake-like creature, with smooth wet-looking skin. saying something. It's not as though I didn't hear her/him no it was more that I didn't care to pay attention.

"we're nearly done, sir."

I chose to walk away not paying attention to her. my mind was racing with anger and slight happiness. I did say that there were two parts to my plan. I knew that If he returned it would show the might of my word, but if he didn't return then I would show how dedicated I was to my word. As I walked away, I said something to the girl/boy looking at Intecqu.

"Don't call me sir call me Meruem"

I said those words with my back turned to him/her the reason was simple I wanted to not have honorifics like sir or king. No, I want my very name to carry with it a near-supernatural weight when they hear "Meruem" they will know that I am the king, god and one above all. I felt everyone's eyes on me as I walked towards the door, calm smooth strode filled with pride and dignity.

I assumed my normal body pose, with my hands behind my back clasped together. I walked past the resting workers who stood up immediately when I neared them. Everyone seemed on edge waiting for me to say something to acknowledge that I am standing so close to them, I realized this while listening to there blood pulsing in their bodies.

Fear rising fast every second I stood near. One of them finally pulled all his courage together and spoke, though his breath was heavy, and his speech broken and spaced. Like a peasant attempting to talk to a king. I loved things like this when they fight so hard to do something so simple in my presence, I make them nervous and oh how I love doing that.

"Please. Sir… no ... Meruem. We've were not involved in his actions, please…. Spare us."

There it was again that fear of death. I continued to stand there a few minutes more as though I was contemplating whether I would kill them or not, my tail serving as a translator of my thoughts to them, as it moved nearer to them they would shudder in fear and wonder if death was near. After some time, I stopped moving my tail and turned toward them.

"I have no belief that you played any part in the fool's deception…. Listen here fellow Intecqus I appreciate the work you've done here. Working hard hours without rest…... but I found one of you not doing his part, taking advantage while also having the Gaul to mimic your dedication. Wanting to join in on your bountiful rewards, while putting in no effort. I could have taken the liars head off then and there however I chose to give that lying filth a means of redemption. In both my eyes and yours, 10 minutes I gave him 10 minutes to go and bring you all food and drink as a reward for your hard work. Yet its been exactly 14 and we've yet to even hear the sounds of his footsteps, or his heavy breath outside the door, begging for mercy, apologizing to you all. No, he chose to ignore me to ignore you. I can not allow this to pass this insult to not only me but an entire generation, it is simply too much to allow. But I am no king I am simply Meruem so tell me fellow Intecqu what shall I do. Should I force you to continue working worn out and sore? Or shall I go and kill that coward and bring you food and drink myself? please decide in the next minute"

The room fell deathly silent as though everyone was confused about what to even think in this situation. The Intecqu who had stood up before now attempted to return among the heard, but they oddly had formed a barrier of sorts keeping him out. Watching as he tried to force his way in was amusing but at the same time I heard the lighting quick heartbeats of those putting together the machinery, they've stopped working" I thought while waiting for the weight of silence in the room to practically suffocate everyone inside.

My tail moving in a slow hypnotic snake-like movement forcing everyone to feast their eyes on it. some of the snake-like Intecqu who was responsible for putting together the machinery started working again as though they knew when this silence was over someone would be punished for the lack of sound. And all of this seemed to happen in just a minute as though they all had an internal clock ticking down to what they assumed was death.

Though as the final seconds seemed to near the same Intecqu who spoke before had given up on reentering the flock. He instead turned around, appearing almost shocked to see me so close up. My wings moving slowly as though there was wind carrying it so majestically but then he noticed my tail that grew nearer every second he lost gazing at my wings. He bowed his head and spoke at first all I could hear were sounds of his loud breathing as he mustered up the courage once again.

"….. forgive me Meruem but…... killing a fellow Intecqu is forbidden b b by…. the queen, only she and the soon to be king c c can kill an Intecqu. I feel as though I speak for everyone when I say we appreciate your concern and we'll make sure to keep your words in our hearts."

As he spoke, I must admit I only heard "if not for the queen id wish him dead" taking this into account I simply began walking out, not before my tail quickly slapped all of the 24 machine workers across the face. I said nothing and walked out leaving only the loud sound of my tail hitting them all across the face.

Seemingly breaking them out of a trance, the sound was similar to a whip and it stayed in that room for quite some time. But thanks to the courage of that one Intecqu I learned something amazing. It appears as though it's not as if I can't kill anyone because of any law but its more than the queen wants that power all to herself.

"Then why were Za,coken, and all those workers so afraid, did the queen target and kill them? Leading to them believing they had a status as lesser? " If so then I have a means of usurping her throne I wondered as I walked up to the guard who appeared to be standing guard at his post, at the end of the hallway. Which had four intersections including the one I was on.

As I neared him though against his will his heart started to flutter, I've found that I truly do love making people uncomfortable and nervous. Seeing as I just stood near this guard for quite some time without saying a word, almost as though I was judging if I'd kill him. Its strange but it's as though I was waiting for something…. Time passed just about a minute or two and the guard finally spoke looking around as though making sure no one was around.

"Is there anything I can do for you, sir."

The guard had similar four arms as Za,coken and his general body shape. Though Za,coken appeared more muscular even with this, I'm guessing that could just be a difference in work ethic. As I looked at him more checking out every inch of him using eco location I came to the conclusion that he was, in fact, a member of Za,coken's generation.

After some time of just standing near him I finally decided to speak when I noticed just how squeamish he was getting, the shakes in his legs and twitch of his arms, he had a sword-like thing at his hilt. It had a fur handle and a glowing crystal hilt top.

"Tell me which direction the Intecqu who walked through here 16 minutes ago went."

He appeared obviously startled by my d.e.s.i.r.e for the location of the fellow Intecqu but simply pointed me back towards the way I came, there was a long back there with stairs that lead up to the dining hall. "oh my how perfect" I thought while walking away, as I walked away he straighten up and resumed his post properly. But it was quickly shaken up when I said something, as I walked away.

"Don't call me sir, my name is Meruem. You do well to remember that."
