Chapter 1 – A Forgetful Man

It was a cool day in late autumn.

Zu Jin was wearing a black suit and pointy high heels. Her tall and thin figure caused many pedestrians to turn their heads as she walked by them.

However, she continued to talk very quickly to her secretary as she walked and treated everything as if she had been indifferent to it for a long time.

The secretary listened for a long time, but could not help but roll her eyes.

“According to the rules, there are three days of vacation for marriage. Besides, people have not taken a break for almost a year!”

Zu Jin spread her hands out and shrugged. “He’s been busy for a year. The day after tomorrow the chairman will be giving out staff awards, but he’s usually not there when his staff is promoted. It’s useless to try hard during normal times.”

“Then can’t you remind the chairman about it the day after tomorrow? Dajie 1, they just got married!”

They stopped at the restaurant’s door and she looked at her secretary’s hopeful eyes. Zu Jin’s expression was cold like a soulless robot.

There seemed to be a few words looping through her eyes: Whoever asks for a vacation will die!

The secretary angrily pushed open the glass door. “You will definitely die alone in the future!”

This kind of cursing from her employees didn’t happen only once or twice. Zu Jin shrugged her shoulders to show that it didn’t affect her.

She turned around and was about to go in when the cell phone in her pocket suddenly rang.

She took it out and saw it was the research and development department calling again.

The employee’s voice from the cell phone was excited. “President Jin, the bug has been solved. This batch of parts will certainly hit the market by the end of December!”

Zu Jin: “Got it. Continue to work hard. If you have any issues, let me know immediately.”

There was a lot of loud chatter and laughter over there, probably because this part had been modified hundreds of times since the beginning of the year. This time it passed the audit. It was actually very exciting.

Although Zu Jin acted bluntly and swiftly, she knew this was not a good moment to hang up the phone because she was hungry.

She stood by the restaurant door with her hand in her pocket. She responded to the employee on the phone from time to time, but she kept on looking at the other side of the road.

On the other side of the road, there was a tall man in a suit with white button down shirt and dress pants. His temperament was different from the pedestrians around him. Even though Zu Jin was far away and could not clearly see his appearance, she could feel that this person was definitely not an ordinary office worker.

The man was holding coffee in one hand and his cell phone in the other. His head was down as he kept swiping on his phone.

As a result, he had only taken a few steps before he stepped on something. In a flash, he spilled more than half of the coffee on to his dress pants.

He shook his head and looked helpless. He drank the rest and threw away the coffee cup into the trash can. Then, he began to rummage through his pockets like he was looking for tissues.

In the end, he couldn’t find it and he probably gave up. Now, it looked like he just wanted to take out his cell phone and continue using it.

While holding the cell phone in his left hand, he kept searching through the pockets of his suit jacket and dress pants.

When he finally realized that his phone was in his hand, he immediately looked around to see if the strangers nearby noticed his embarrassment. Then, he pinched the bridge of his nose and continued to walk forward.

He walked down the road, but he performed an extremely comical mime act.

Zu Jin bit down on her lips to resist laughing out loud, otherwise the employees on the phone would be frightened.

Fortunately, the employees finished speaking and they hung up. Zu Jin looked at the other side of the road again.

The man had already left and entered the nearby building.

Coincidentally, that building was Qiyu Corporation’s building and it was where Zu Jin worked.

Zu Jin recalled the corporation’s management hierarchy, and she really had no impression of this man.

Even if there were an impression, he probably would have been fired by her a long time ago.

According to her standards, she would never allow her managers to show up like that kind of forgetful man.

But maybe he’s just an ordinary employee.

Why was she thinking so much about this?

How strange!

However, this was only a very small incident in her daily life. Zu Jin had countless official business duties to deal with everyday, so she didn’t have the time to think about these incidents.

After being busy for the whole day, it was dusk. Zu Jin still had a small Chamber of Commerce charity party to attend.

Previously, she threw 30 million yuan into the charity under the corporation’s name in order to qualify for the party. She also ‘low-key’ spent a lot of money to link the donation to two hot searches.

And her purpose for doing this was to attract an investor for the important projects planned by the corporation.

At the same time, this matter was also related to the board of directors’ evaluation of her.

After all, she was a woman sitting in the president position of the corporation. If they were not picky in every way with her, then they would not feel satisfied.

Wearing a long, deep V neck dress in black, Zu Jin couldn’t help complain again before getting out of the car.

“Don’t pick this kind of tight dress for me next time, or I’ll suffocate sooner or later.”

Xia Tong was sitting next to her and was helping her arrange her hair.

“These were all picked by the stylist. It looks clean, sharp, and feminine. Besides, you look so beautiful in it.”

Zu Jin sucked in her belly and glared at her secretary. “I think the stylist was just used to torture me!”

The corners of Xia Tong’s mouth raised into a devil-like smile. “If you eat less carbohydrates, then you won’t feel suffocated.”

At this party, partners were not allowed.

Zu Jin was already familiar with how to deal with this kind of situation. Within an hour of taking a glass of champagne from the waiter, she greeted most of the strangers and handed over her business card.

A real upper class person only needed to show their face to greet a person, but she was only a young upper class worker. Here, she still needed to bow her head first before she could hand out a business card.

After a lap, Zu Jin quietly breathed out a sigh of relief and began to follow her usual routine to prepare for the important second half of the party.

She walked up to the refreshment table with drinks and fruits. Then, she pretended to unintentionally pick up a small piece of apple and put it into her mouth. But, her eyes were always attentive to prevent herself from missing out on an opportunity to come into contact with someone important.

While looking around, she discovered an interesting scene.

She saw a familiar figure standing less than five meters away from her.

It was that forgetful man that she saw in front of the corporation’s building this afternoon.

And this time he didn’t forget to bring tissues. Instead, he forgot his business card.

Oh my god.

Zu Jin was screaming for him deep inside her heart.

Was there anything more unlucky or pathetic than this?!

On such an important occasion, there were so many people who racked their brains out to find a way to receive an invitation. Yet, he squeezed into the party without a business card?

What was this like?

It was like a company slave2 who bought a lottery ticket and unexpectedly won the main 100 million yuan prize. But when he went to get the money, he found out that he lost the ticket.

If this was herself, Zu Jin would be so angry and be spitting blood by her own foolish behavior.

The man looked much more formal than what he looked like in the afternoon. The suit looked custom made too. He appeared serious while standing there. This only made him look more tall and upright.

A man who wanted his business card walked up to him and extended a hand. His smirk made Zu Jin feel like she was looking at a public execution.

The most fatal thing to happen at a party was when someone did not succeed in walking away and later passed by the same person again.

He smiled again and waved his hands to show that he didn’t bring business cards. After that, he just walked directly to the back garden of the party to supposedly prevent another person from striking up a conversation with him.

Everyone on this side was still endlessly socializing while cheerfully talking and laughing. Zu Jin was naturally among these people.

Everyone finally quieted down when the ceremony began to unveil the party’s most important charitable donations.

In the dark, Zu Jin sat in her seat and took a sip of champagne.

It seemed like her heart was scratched a few times by a small hand and it kept tickling.

Zu Jin was ruthless in the eyes of the employees. In the eyes of Xia Tong, the secretary who had worked for her for five or six years, she was cold on the outside and hot on the inside; she was a workaholic who was not close to any men.

But in fact, only her two girlfriends who had known her since they were children knew that she was really……

She was really not close to men. Rather, she only liked men who looked gentle and elegant.

To put it bluntly, she was only interested in men who looked cute and were easy to bully.

She had been in two relationships since she was in college.

The two ex-boyfriends, without exceptions, were only the kind that were her type.

Afterwards, because of some force of nature, they peacefully broke up. After so many years of empty feelings, Zu Jin thought that she really would be like what Xia Tong said: destined to die alone.

However, it seemed like there was something to be gained tonight.

Zu Jin raised her eyebrows and could not help but pick up another glass of champagne.

The author has something to say:

Yan Lin: Do I look easy to bully?

Zu Jin: Yes.
