Chapter 5 – Part 2 out of 2

There were many people in the elevator, so when they reached the first floor, Jiang Tao deliberately stood behind Fang Rui, waiting for the others to leave before going directly to the underground parking lot.

“I saw Zhang Yang just now. He was waiting opposite the elevator hall. He looks really greasy. I found out a long time ago that men are very confident. They should feel ashamed to pester you when they look like that.” Sitting in the car, Fang Rui was still complaining about Zhang Yang.

Jiang Tao was listless. Fang Rui rubbed her head, “Forget it. Don’t think about it yet. Go back and get some rest, and we’ll talk when you wake up.”

Jiang Tao held Fang Rui’s hand and placed it on her face. It’s nice to have friends.

Fang Rui sent Jiang Tao back to the Heping community, said hello to grandma, and left.

Jiang Tao had breakfast in the hospital, took a shower, and found that her grandmother had closed the curtains for her. There was a pair of noise-canceling headphones on the bedside table.

“Go to sleep.”

Jiang Tao hugged her grandmother again, set her phone to silent mode, and got under the covers. The exhaustion of her body quickly made her fall into a deep sleep.

In the hospital, Zhang Yang waited until nine o’clock and didn’t see Jiang Tao coming out, so he went upstairs impatiently.

Every day in the inpatient department, relatives and friends come to visit the patients. The inpatient building is free to enter and exit, and only access control is set up outside the ward.

“I’m looking for Jiang Tao.” Zhang Yang looked at the guard on duty with a gloomy expression.

Facing such a strong man, the guard on duty did not dare to be too tough and said in a business-like manner, “She is resting today.”

Zhang Yang asked, “Isn’t it the night shift?”

The guard on duty replied, “After the night shift, she leaves to rest.”

At that moment, the elevator doors opened, and several male doctors approached, accompanied by Wang Haiyan.

Zhang Yang also recognized her, passed by with the takeaway, and walked to the elevator hall, but he did not seem to want to go down.

Wang Haiyan allowed the doctors to enter first, and she asked the guard on duty in a low voice:

“What is happening?”

The guard on duty replied: “He is searching for Jiang Tao once again.”

Wang Haiyan inquired: “Where is Xiao Tao?”

The guard on duty responded: “She left already. Her friend came to pick her up. They should have gone to the underground garage, and they did not cross paths with anyone.”

Wang Haiyan asked: “A male friend?”

The guard on duty clarified: “A female friend, her best friend.”

Jiang Tao slept until five o’clock in the afternoon, feeling lethargic. Upon waking up, she reached for her phone.

The head nurse had sent a message requesting that she call her when she woke up.

Fang Rui had asked if she was awake half an hour ago.

Jiang Tao rubbed her eyes, sat up, and called the head nurse first.

Wang Haiyan’s voice came through the phone: “Are you awake? I am occupied at the moment. I saw Zhang Yang approaching you again this morning. What do you think, Xiao Tao? Will you give him a chance?”

Jiang Tao replied: “How absurd! If he persists in bothering me, I will contact the authorities.”

Wang Haiyan responded: “Very well, I understand. Protect yourself and come to me whenever you require assistance.”

The phone call was brief, but Jiang Tao felt a warmth in her heart. The head nurse was very dedicated to her work and could occasionally make her colleagues cry.

However, if a nurse was mistreated by a patient or wronged by a doctor, the head nurse would firmly support them.

After conversing with Fang Rui for a while, Jiang Tao opened the curtains, got dressed, and went out.

Grandma was in the kitchen, preparing dinner for the two of them. Upon seeing Jiang Tao, she instructed her to wash her face and not to assist.

Jiang Tao joked: “I came back to take care of you, but in the end, you took care of me.”

Grandma replied: “That is wonderful. It demonstrates that I can still do it. I wish I had never had you serve me in my life.”

Jiang Tao laughed.

During the meal, Grandma asked: “I have a day off tomorrow. Do you have any plans?”

Jiang Tao thought to herself, “Oops, I almost forgot to invite Cao An to dinner!”

“I am going shopping with Xiaorui. It is time to purchase spring clothes. Would you like to come? I will buy two for you as well.”

“I will not accompany you. Enjoy yourself. You are so busy with work, it is difficult to relax.”

After dinner, Jiang Tao accompanied Grandma to the square in the north of the community.

The elderly men and women danced in the square with great enthusiasm. Jiang Tao sat on the bench and sent a message to Cao An: “I will treat you tomorrow, but I do not know what you like to eat.”

Cao An replied: “I enjoy meat. Barbecue, hot pot, and seafood are all acceptable.”

Upon seeing the response, Jiang Tao breathed a sigh of relief. She was genuinely afraid that Cao An would say something like, “anything is fine” or “you can decide.”

Having had a barbecue the last time, Jiang Tao searched for delectable hot pot and seafood restaurants in the city and sent two options to Cao An for him to choose.

Cao An selected a beef hot pot: “Shall I pick you up tomorrow at eleven o’clock?”

Jiang Tao replied: “Very well. Let us meet at the east gate. Thank you.”

Cao An responded: “You are welcome. See you tomorrow.”

Jiang Tao returned a smiling expression. Assuring herself that Cao An would not reply again, she leaned back on the chair, closed her eyes, and took a deep breath.

One Zhang Yang was already quite a nuisance. She hoped that Cao An could break it off smoothly.

Fang Rui knew that Jiang Tao had a date on the weekend, so driven by super-exuberant curiosity, she insisted on coming to the Heping Community to see what a “big shot” was like.

It was impossible for Jiang Tao to introduce Cao An to her, so she simply asked Fang Rui to come over and wait in advance, then leave by herself after satisfying her curiosity.

At half past ten, Fang Rui arrived, bearing a cup of milk tea and pretending to wait for a friend at the east gate.

On weekends and days of leisure, the community bustled with residents and vehicles coming and going.

Donning sunglasses, Fang Rui surreptitiously kept an eye out for any suspicious characters.

Shortly after she arrived at her post, a black Jeep off-road vehicle gradually came to a halt.

Fang Rui cast a sidelong glance at it from the front.

Through the car’s front glass, she caught sight of a man seated in the driver’s seat, peering at his wristwatch and then at the community’s gate.

Fang Rui: …

Suddenly, the man’s gaze met hers. Fang Rui quivered all over, clutching the milk tea with both hands, and stiffly entered the community.

Dreadful!

She had the courage to meet him for the second time.

Nurse Xiao Tao was truly courageous!
