Jiang Tao was on the night shift on Friday, so she went to find her good friend Fang Rui for dinner at noon.

She didn’t want her grandma to worry too much, so she could only complain to Fang Rui about Zhang Yang.

Fang Rui was so angry: “Why is there such a disgusting man? You should have crippled him with a syringe!”

Jiang Tao didn’t say anything.

After finishing speaking, Fang Rui also worried for Jiang Tao: “If he just went to the hospital to stalk you and talk to you, can you call the police for this kind of thing?”

Jiang Tao replied: “I checked. As long as he affects my normal life, I can call the police, but with Zhang Yang’s current situation, the police should only mediate.”

Fang Rui said: “He must be shameless if he would do such a thing. I’m afraid he will become angry and get worse afterwards.”

Jiang Tao had no appetite at all.

Fang Rui looked at her frowning and worried face and thought of when they were in high school.

Jiang Tao was pretty but too quiet. There were boys in the class who liked to ask Jiang Tao questions after class, but Jiang Tao would give them lectures. If the boys showed interest in pursuing her, Jiang Tao would refuse them all.

The school was relatively simple, with parents and teachers being intimidating. The boys dared not go too far. But in society, when they met Zhang Yang, a rascal who didn’t respect girls’ wishes and thought he was romantic and affectionate, Jiang Tao coldly refused him. Basically, there was no deterrent.

Calling the police was an easy way to deepen the conflict. It would be great if there were other ways to make Zhang Yang give up by himself.

“Let me tell my cousin. Let him pretend to be your boyfriend for a while?” Fang Rui found a photo of his cousin and showed it to Jiang Tao.

Fang Rui’s cousin was about 1.8 meters tall. He looked cheerful and bright, but he was thin. If he were to fight, he probably wouldn’t be able to beat Zhang Yang.

Jiang Tao was afraid that Zhang Yang will do something, in case something happens…

“Don’t worry about it. Our head nurse introduced me to someone, and we’re going to have a meal together this weekend.”

Fang Rui put down her phone and grabbed Jiang Tao’s hand with excitement: “Why didn’t you tell me about this? Hurry up and show me the photo so I can be your assistant!” Jiang Tao said awkwardly:

“There is no photo. The head nurse only showed me a photo before dinner on Wednesday.”

Fang Rui asked: “Have you seen him once? Would you meet him again? He seems interesting.”

Jiang Tao shook her head and explained in a low voice: “He looks so fierce. You know those mafia bosses on TV? He looked more like a boss than those people…”

Fang Rui listened to her ins and outs with ups and downs, and first thought of an idea: “This is perfect! Let’s fight fire with fire. Next time Zhang Yang tries to block you, you can call Cao An to pick you up. If the little hooligan meets the black boss, he’ll be scared to death!”

Jiang Tao replied: “I’m going to reject him on Sunday. Let’s use him again if he’s not suitable.”

Fang Rui suggested, “Why not attempt to establish contact before rejecting him outright? If he truly possesses the qualities that the head nurse extolled, namely a commanding presence and a charming personality, then having such a boyfriend would undoubtedly make you feel secure.”

Jiang Tao retorted, “You make it sound so easy. Do you truly believe that you would not be rendered speechless if I were to summon him here and now?”

Fang Rui scoffed, “I do not believe it. If you possess the courage, then call him immediately. Whoever loses will give the other red envelopes.”

Jiang Tao acknowledged her loss and lowered her head to eat.

Fang Rui playfully poked her on the head and inquired, “Do not feign cowardice. What do you intend to do about Zhang Yang?”

Jiang Tao replied, “I shall observe the situation. Our nurses work irregular shifts, and it is impossible to prevent him from approaching me every time. If he persists, I may eventually give up.”

Fang Rui cautioned, “In that case, be vigilant. If anything untoward occurs, immediately contact the authorities and inform me without delay.”

Jiang Tao nodded in agreement, acknowledging that safety must be the top priority.

Fang Rui spoke up, “Furthermore, I will accompany you to the hospital tonight, and I will pick you up tomorrow after your night shift. Don’t reject my offer, as I won’t be able to do so on weekdays. Therefore, I will be your protector for the next two days.”

After a brief exchange, Jiang Tao’s eyes turned red.

At 7 o’clock in the evening, Fang Rui drove straight into the Heping Community, picked up Jiang Tao in front of the fifth building, and then drove to the underground garage of the hospital. Fang Rui then escorted Jiang Tao to the inpatient ward of the general surgery department.

There was no sign of Zhang Yang outside the ward, and there was no guard on duty for the night shift.

Jiang Tao took out the access control card and hugged Fang Rui, saying, “Please go back quickly. You won’t need it tomorrow morning. If Zhang Yang tries to block me, I will take my colleague’s car.” Fang Rui agreed happily.

As a result, at 7:30 on Saturday, Jiang Tao received a message from Fang Rui: “I walked around the lobby below. Is this Zhang Yang?” The message was accompanied by a photo of a man leaning against the wall of the hall with a takeaway breakfast, looking down and playing with his mobile phone.

Jiang Tao stayed up all night, and her drowsy brain became extremely alert when she recognized Zhang Yang. She felt chills run down her spine. She responded with a simple “yes.”

Fang Rui asked, “How does he know that you are getting off the night shift today?” Jiang Tao needed to explain, so she asked Fang Rui to wait for her in the car, and they would meet and chat later.

After eight o’clock, Jiang Tao walked out of the ward after changing clothes and found Fang Rui waiting outside.

“You look exhausted. Did you stay up late, or is it because of Zhang Yang?” Fang Rui walked out holding Jiang Tao’s arm, speaking in a low voice.

Jiang Tao was upset, “It’s all right. The guard on duty is also annoyed with him, and he won’t reveal my schedule. But he has been in the hospital for so long before, and he may have guessed my schedule. After one shift, you can basically guess the schedule of the next two shifts.”

Fang Rui suggested, “I want to go to the lobby and scold him. Let him know that you have someone to back you up, otherwise, he will continue to be lawless.”

Jiang Tao grabbed Fang Rui’s arm, “Don’t. Let him wait for nothing.”
