Chapter 49 - The legacy of Lord Gu

Shaka had spent the past two days traveling north with his carriage moving towards Lord Gu's workshop. He knew that the workshop was in an underground cave system that was located at the base of a waterfall. The waterfall was one few places that one would consider beautiful in the Northern mountain range.

Being a popular location a small village had been built by a dwarf some seventy years ago. The village of Tai, a wonderfully small and idyllic place filled with pleasantries of rural life. He had fought many different basic creatures to get to the village. He never realized how much diversity existed in nature. Something that long since disappeared on the Earth.

Being alone made Shaka think of home, the constant need to get the basic necessities to survive had left them little time to think of the home they had all lost. Even the youngest members who were twelve years of age were preoccupied with exploring and becoming a.d.u.l.ts. The entire process of integrating into the continent had never once stopped.

Shaka remembered the fifty million man march when a millions of people left all once at the end of the first month to move into the existing territory on the continent. Leaving Oshun city with a population of about few million who were slowly spreading out from Oshun into the surrounding area.

Shaka had decided to step up home in the barn of a local farmer by the name Terry. He had been living alone since his wife was killed by a wild boar, when she was picking wild mushrooms. Afterwards their son Theon had moved to across the Infinite Forest to a city there to seek his fortune.

Shaka knew that the biggest country on the continent was in the east. The countries most eastern border is more than three thousand kilometers away from the Infinite Forest.

The Mithril Oryx, Shaka had decided to call it Anwa. He had released Anwa into the field as he would not need her for next few days while he tried to locate the first volume. He was more excited than before he had felt A resonance with something in the area as soon as he entered the area.

If he paid better attention he would have realised that the black plate he had picked up was in fact operational and glowing with a green shade of mana.

Shaka went to the local inn, information is his life blood. He asked the proprietor if he knew what created inhabited the cave behind the waterfall. He said "You know, the usually Naga, a few Kapa's, some of fishmen and sometimes inside the cave river bears and such. Even thou we have been here for sometime most of the cave system remains unexplored so I could not tell you what's in he deepest part. Which is safe i think, since we have never had anyone disappear in the caves".

Shaka then continued to discuss other things the man might have heard from areas around them. He did get a one piece of news a giant serpent had left the waters of the Infinite Forest exactly two days shortly after the earthquake. Shaka ate his food that he had ordered from the man while being told a nonsensical legend of Hephaestus who had come here in youth as a young God with no purpose. He worked day and night in the caves for an old man who said that if he could dig to the other side he would discover power beyond his wildest. Hephaestus is said to have given up after weeks claiming that the task was impossible and the techniques he learned to create the tunnels were not suitable for the job. He had left with his techniques to an unknown land never to be heard of again.

The old man laughed at the foolish endeavor, Shaka nearly choked when he remembered the legend of the God Hephaestus the blacksmith of the Greek God's. Another clue had fallen into his l.a.p making him even more confident about that he was in the right place.

Shaka made his way to the waterfall, the cave entrance had few Toadmen. This monsters had limited intelligence of about a seven year so they could be reasoned with. When he tried thou he was immediately attacked without warning. Shaka made quick work of the three Toadmen, check his nano-id to see how afar he had to go to before leveling up as it were.

In the past two days, thanks to his devouring spear he had been able to directly absorb the cores and the blood of monsters together had really improved the potency of how much nanites he could gather per monster. With a little more effort he would be ready to head to the next level.

The cave was not at all a cave more like a canyon with a roof. It was at least a kilometer high. The cave started off small as one walked into it. After about two kilometers of walking one would reach the central chamber. The chamber was like a wide open expanse, glowing rocks and plants giving it light. Small monsters roaming around the area enjoying life. Shaka took it all in he really like what Hephaestus had done. He knew that the man created this place as it was written on the wall in the form of mural, apparently made by a young man called Ogun who had been a steward of the cave before leaving shortly after Hephaestus.

Shaka looked at the wall mural carefully, "it might hold a clue" he thought to himself. The mural was detailed in its craving yet seemed to lack a coherent story. While it showed that Hephaestus had indeed built the cave in search of enlightenment it said nothing about Lord Gu, Or why Hephaestus or Ogun left. Shaka feeling helpless touched the mural, a faint mana circuit could felt. He injected his mana into the mural. Suddenly one of the cravings in the background turned around to talk to Shaka.

To his surprise it looked like Lord Gu, The carving spoke in a langauge he didn't understand. Shaka tried to talk to the craving however he quickly figured out it was an automated system. The other cravings also started moving they depicted a time before time. When the universe was new twelve symbols appeared bring with them the laws of the universe. Shaka only recognized one of them it was the symbol of Lord Gu, missing the symbol that had appeared on his black plate he held in his ring space. The Symbol was anvil behind as a background a leaf and on top of the anvil a circular object.

When Shaka touched the symbol a door opened the carving of Lord Gu pointed to the door. Shaka walked through the door. The space around suddenly disappeared he was transported to a space in front of him the figure of Lord Gu. Each of the items in his symbol floating around him. Lord Gu was focused on crafting an item Shaka stood remembering the first meeting in Unity where he had angered him simply by interrupting what he was doing. He saw how lord Gu used his leaf as a fan to increase the fires of the furnance behind. He had only gently waved his hand, the fire raged as if it had receive phosphorus. Very motion had purpose Lord Gu entire body was working in synergy with his mana.

Simply from observing Shaka could feel a qualitative change happening in his body. The powers that were operating in front of him an opportunity to grow beyond the limits.

Shaka began to even mimic some of the movements that he could grasp. Lord Gu's movements were neither fast nor complicated however, them being simply did not mean that the movements were not complex in their own way.

Lord Gu's first lesson had already begun and Shaka was taking it in, how the breathing was connected the movements. How each fan blow heated the furnace but also cold the sweat on Lord Gu's face in a single uninterrupted motion. The item was slowly taking shape. Lord Gu's toiled away for the better part of the day. Shaka was drenched in sweat as he felt his mana veins open. The pores on his skin all let the sweat pass through. Shaka was at his end his body getting seriously fatigued. His mana had never once ran out before even with the ring on he had never run into this problem.

Shaka pushed for another seven hours his movements had become sluggish but they more closely mimicked the figure of Lord Gu. The man continued until he suddenly vanished, a dong could be heard. A gentle voiced swept through the room.

Clear!

Shaka immediately collapsed onto a bed that had appeared out of nowhere, the softness helping to send him to a deep sleep quickly.

BANG!

BANG!

CLACK!!

DONG!!!

The noise sounded far away at first, then each strike got progressively louder until Shaka got out of bed. Checking his surroundings he remembered that he gone into a weird space that is inhabited by Lord Gu or something that he left behind. Shaka cleared his mind, he looked where the noise was coming from.

Lord Gu was using a feather to hammer away at item from early. Shaka was particularly s.e.n.s.i.t.i.v.e to the manipulation of control matrix. Lord Gu was using his mana in a forceful way to interact with the mana.

In this Shaka was the master, at least for the past months the one thing he had an unnatural talent was understanding how to manipulate a control matrix. He was so talented at that he could even do it on a fully completed weapon which was usually impossible unless one was a grandmaster in smithing, forging, potion making. Their is a link between all types of production jobs at their core they all do three thing destroy, transform and then create.

Shaka took the floor and worked a control matrix in front of Lord Gu. He sensed that the movements he had learnt early helped here as the allowed him fine mana control, which was the most important aspect in Changing a control matrix. He made short work of it.

Clear! The voice rang out again.

Shaka flashed and shimmered into the final space Lord Gu was explained to a fire giant (Hephaestus) how to create something from life force. Shaka understood what this was as He had a hint on what to do from Lord Gu himself. The first law is one cannot create something form nothing. This means that all creation as it exists today at one point existed as another form be it energy or something else. Lord Gu told Shaka to create something using life force. Like most Shaka had immediately made the mistake and assumed that by life force Lord Gu meant his bodies internal life energy. The Life force Lord Gu was referring to was the energy released at the creation of the universe. He was so far the only person that had managed to tap into that energy and make things with it for example in Unity he was the one who made Pandora's box. So all Shaka had to do was prove that he understood this.

Simplicity is the Ultimate sophistication that was clue. Shaka thought about for along time he knew that for him to succeed he needed to show how the energy of the universe can be used. He stood in front of the alter and he pulled the most important and simplest trick humanity has ever mastered. He made a fire.

Clear!

Shaka was teleported to a workshop were he watched long Gu work for a thousand years, it flew by instant for everyone else. Shaka had passed the trails and learnt the basics from the Lord Gu, his knowledge rivaled that of a grandmaster in three fields to create a unique being. Shaka had become a creator the simplest kind of smith yet the sophisticated.

He was deeply pleased with his gains, As he stepped away from the alter. A portal had appeared behind him, a swirling vortex of energy. He took a last look around taking in the work space of his master. In the thousand years of observation he had gained a deep respect for Lord Gu, however as a side effect the memories of his family and their importance to him is barely registrable. His personality had slowly been altered by the experience. As he step through the portal he found himself outside a cottage. Their Lord Gu himself sitting on a rocking chair on the cottage patio. His disheveled appear seemingly a thing of the past. He called Shaka with his deep booming voice, "finally your here, let me look at you. Not bad, you might just do it."

Shaka felt like this Lord Gu In front of him might just be the real deal and not just some memory.

Come closer my boy if you stand over their i just think you are afraid of me. Lord Gu was trying to stand his body moved slowly.

Shaka walked towards the cottage the first step creeked of old age, as Shaka took his first steps onto the cottage. The Lord stood a foot above Shaka. He put his hands on Shaka's shoulder carefully giving him a once over.

Shaka felt a bit awkward as all his interactions with Lord Gu before had never been this personal. He was a bit sweaty being so close the man he admired for a thousand. His training at least steeped his nerves was at least his knees were not wobble.

Boy you have the best chance of our of all of them. you will have to train and hone you skills, some point in the future when you are strong I will share the news about the war in heaven. Now tell me about you it has been a long time since I had any visitors.

They moved inside the cottage, a pristine simply place with the b.a.r.e necessities, a wood stove had a kettle on the boil. They sat at the table as Shaka told him about the his life on Lumeria. The story of his family lit a small fire in his heart reminding him of their importance to everything he had been planning.

They sat in this space for unknown amount time Lord Gu and his apprentice became well acquainted with each other. A small fire pit as, creating a science straight out of a fairy tale. an old shabby cotta in the middle of the world's, with a smoking chimney in the middle of the woods.
