Loving A Triple Threat

Chapter 9 - The Invitation 1

The sun was high, and it was hot outside, fortunately Gi was in the music room which was insulated to reduce the noise escaping and annoying other students. She thought noise, rather than sound, due to the ability of some of her fellow students.

Gi played the piano and the violin, which was her favourite. She learned the piano for a grounding in music theory, which all the teachers recommended, but she stopped practising seriously when she was twelve. When she was ten, she picked up the violin and fell in love with the romance of the instrument.

It was elegant, technical and sounded fantastic by itself, in a small band or a large orc.h.e.s.tra. It was a versatile instrument, and it wasn't a wind instrument, which allowed her to sing if she wanted.

"Miss Gi Reyn, have you decided on a song for your recital?" her Music Teacher asked.

"Yes, Ms Park," she replied, "Pound Cake by Drake."

"Excuse me?" Ms Park was not upset, she genuinely had no idea which song Gi meant.

"May I turn on my phone Ms to demonstrate?" Gi asked.

Ms Park nodded giving her approval. Gi retrieved her phone and opened up youtube landing on Drake's hip hop song. She then played it for Ms Park. A few seconds in, Gi panicked and stopped the song. She ran to her bag, retrieving her earphones.

Ms Park understood and bowed her head allowing Gi to place them. She again pressed play. The look on Ms Park's face was adorable, she went from confused to outraged to horrified, and back to thoughtful, just as Gi expected.

Ms Park recovered herself and calmly handed Gi back her phone and headphones. The Drake song had many swear words and Ms Park understood English perfectly.

"This is your choice?" Ms Park asked calmly.

Gi nodded, "It is a challenge Ms."

Ms Park smiled, "Yes Miss Reyn, one which I look forward to hearing minus the bad words of course."

"Just music Ms," Gi replied.

"No singing?" Ms Park looked disappointed.

"No Ms, the words cannot be changed, even if the arrangement is altered. And this one is about music, not words."

"But there is no singing?" Ms Park, a traditionalist, asked.

"It's the same Ms, you know this," Gi replied.

Ms Park sighed, "I do, but I can wish can't I?"

Ms Park walked away leaving Gi to work on her arrangement. She moved from student to student, music was popular in Branksome. When the bell finally sounded Gi packed up and made her way to her locker, the recital was in three weeks, and it was her final assessment for the year. It counted for a large portion of the grade so she would have to do well to maintain an A.

As Gi walked up the corridor and she noticed other girls at their lockers looking at large cards. She peered over a year ten's shoulder, the card was blue and white, and it looked like an old school invitation.

"Who sends card invites these days?" The year ten girl asked her friend.

As Gi went to place her violin case back into her locker, she saw Suzie holding four cards. She announced happily, "Look Gi, I have four."

"Four what?" she asked.

"Invitations. Look," Gi held onto her case and went over to Suzie.

"What is it exactly and why don't they just do it on Facebook or something?" Gi asked.

"It's strange. It's like a competition, see there is a code to scan. It is online," Suzie stated.

"What's the invitation for?" Gi asked.

"Joon's birthday, Seo Joon," Suzie said gleefully.

"The billionaire from Daeil?" Gi asked.

"Yes!" Suzie said. "It's his eighteenth, and it's massive. Look."

Seo Joon wasn't the billionaire it was his Father, but that was a minor distinction to the students. Seo Jung-Jin was the second ric.h.e.s.t man in Korea. He was CEO and Chairman of a titan biopharmaceutical company. That was the extent of Gi's knowledge as it didn't apply to her world.

The party was at a place called Caribbean Bay. They rented it for an entire weekend, the entire water park. That alone would cost a fortune, it was the top water park in Korea, and it was Summer.

Gi whistled, "How much does that cost?" She wondered out loud.

"Who cares," Suzie said. "And that's not all look on the app."

The app had Blackpink confirmed to perform at 5pm on Saturday and then the entire trainee program of YG competing to be in the "YG Treasure Box" which was the precursor to the next YG boy band.

"Blackpink!" Gi said excited, she loved Blackpink. They broke the mould when it came to girl groups. They used social media constantly, the harsh restrictions on other girl groups were removed. They tweeted, made Instagram videos and even vlogs for YouTube. And it worked they had a worldwide following that no other girl group had, only BTS was superior.

"Who books Blackpink for a birthday party?" Gi asked still astounded.

"Billionaires, duh," Suzie teased.

"And you haven't said anything about the YG Treasure Box," Suzie observed.

"Oh, that will be interesting, I was still getting over Blackpink. They just finished a world tour! This is insane," Gi stated.

"Shutup about Blackpink they are rivals," Suzie said as Misha arrived to join in the discussion. It was before dinner, luckily the Students had forty-five minutes before dance practice. And they never ate much dinner before dance practice.

"Pfft, we would have to be in the same league to be rivals, we are like four leagues below them. Anyway, won't there be potential Treasure Box members attending Daeil?"

"Yes, I think that's part of the deal. It's a massive YG night for both YG Academies," Misha stated.

"It's … a … Birthday…" Gi emphasised each word because she was still in shock. She would be lucky to have a family picnic in the park for her eighteenth. Her Father worked all weekend except for rare and important Family events.

Suzie held out her phone, "Take a full body picture of me. No wait," she opened her locker, applied some makeup and quickly changed into her tight dance outfit. In the hallway. Suzie was scandalous.

"Ok now," Suzie ordered.

"You have a mirror and makeup in your locker?" Misha asked incredulously.

"Ahum," Suzie replied, "Now take the picture. I need it for the app."

"Why do they need your picture?" Gi asked.

Misha took several and handed Suzie back her phone.

"It's for the contest," Suzie stated. "Download the app and read it."

Both Misha and Gi downloaded the app.

"What?" they both exclaimed while reading.

"You're ok with this?" Misha asked Suzie.

Gi wasn't surprised given Suzie's history.

"This sort of thing wouldn't bother Suzie," Gi stated honestly.

"Really?" Misha said with her mouth open, ready to catch flies.

"Hmmph, I'm not a prude like some," Suzie said in an insulting tone towards Gi.

Gi grabbed Suzie's wrist gently and turned her hand over to inspect it. Suzie allowed the contact without protest.

"Are you reading my future score?" Suzie asked amused by the gesture.

"No," Gi smirked towards Misha, "I'm looking for callouses."

"Har!" Suzie exclaimed and pulled her hand away.

"Why would there be callouses?" Misha asked innocently. The girls worked hard with dancing, singing and acting and even in dancing they protected their feet and even knees. There was no reason for callouses, they didn't twirl batons or anything.

"Ask Suzie," Gi said grinning and enjoying the moment.

"I'm hungry. See you later," Suzie announced and ran off as quickly as she could.

Gi took pity and closed Suzie's locker for her.

"Are you going to do it?" Misha asked.

Gi thought about it. "For Blackpink and Treasure Box," she stated and nodded in affirmation.

"It's so…" Misha searched for the right words, "S.e.xist."

"Yeah imagine if we had a rating contest for the boys and we got points for how hot they were."

"And each boy needs more than eight points to gain entry!" Misha said.

"So it is like a Treasure hunt for hot girls if you don't score over eight neither you or the boy who invited you can go."

Misha turned one of her cards to show Gi.

The title was "Treasure Hunt."

Gi laughed so hard she almost dropped her violin case, "I thought that was to do with Yg's Treasure Box!"

"I don't get why so many invitations," Misha said.

"Um, let me see a couple," she placed her violin on the ground and inspected a couple of Misha's cards. She had a handful.

"Oh look," Gi said, "Each one has a different code. And look here," she pointed, "Hwan wrote pick mine please lovely Misha."

"Who's Hwan?" Misha asked.

Gi looked at her rival and raised her eyebrow, "Do I look like a walking boy encyclopedia?"

Misha giggled. "Sorry, I was just curious. Hmm," she thought out loud, "Who should I pick?"

"Probably pick one you actually know. Maybe they should ask you in person, it's a little less creepy that way."

"Yeah, I know right. It's bad enough as it is, but the boys from Daeil just snuck around when we were in class and stuck these in our lockers. I don't even know how they knew which locker was mine!" Misha said.

"Ah," Gi breathed, "I don't know if I have any."

Misha giggled and shook her head.

"What?" Gi asked.

"You are so dense Gi. Go look in your locker," she pointed across the corridor.

"Fine," Gi replied slightly offended at being called dense by an airhead who didn't get straight As.

She opened her locker.

And was almost buried.

All she could hear was Misha laughing along with the rush of paper spewing across the hall.
