Loving A Triple Threat

Chapter 29 - Potential or Problem

Meeting room 201 had a glass partition between it and the main floor. All the workers on the floor could see the four men seated around the long table behind the glass. With highbacked chairs and plush carpeting, it was a comfortable place for a discussion and interview.

Mister Lee was at the head of the table, and he was supported by the talent manager Mister Gok. Mister Ku was head of training for female idols, and Mister Tong was going to be managing the next girl group.

"I know Mr Tong, I was there, I saw it all," Mister Lee stated.

"She is a bomb waiting to explode," Mr Tong protested.

"Her talent cannot be denied," Mr Gok countered. "We should do our jobs and manage her."

"Her social media is a mess," Mr Ku added, "If we do take her on, this needs to be remedied. It is another time bomb. It needs proper moderation. That being said, she has over a million followers, ten times what any of our current trainees have."

"Most of her followers are horny boys," Mr Tong stated strongly.

Mr Lee cleared his throat, and all eyes turned to him. "Mr Tong," he said calmly, "That statement shows your bias. Are you new to this business?" He asked as if speaking to a child. His point was, this was normal for girl groups, and to think of it as a negative, was ignorant.

Mr Tong bowed his head, "I apologise Sir. I am concerned that if we sign her, she will come to me, and then she will cause a scandal, and I will be blamed."

"Thank you for your honesty Mr Tong. In your position, I would probably fee the same. Or, Mr Tong, I might look at it as an opportunity. If she was yours, and you straightened her out, who would get the praise? Her or you?" Mr Lee stated sagely.

The Managers nodded, Mr Lee was not the wise General Manager for no reason. "Gentlemen, I feel I must place the interests of YG ahead of all. If we did not sign her, a competitor would."

" Now, gentlemen watch and learn. If we don't sign her, and she keeps on the straight and narrow, and she signs for JYP. What happens?" Mr Lee asked

"We would have lost Sir," Mr Ku answered.

"Correct," Mr Lee stated, "Next, we sign her, and she is in a scandal before debut. What happens?"

"We cut her Sir," Mr Tong answered finally seeing Mr Lee's reasoning.

"So, gentlemen, we only have one choice and one job to do." Mr Lee stated.

The managers all bowed their heads waiting for the wisdom of Mr Lee.

"We will sign her, and Mr Tong, you must straighten her out before debut, we will not debut a risky idol," Mr Lee summarised.

"Can I call her in Sir?" Mr Gok asked.

"Yes Mr Gok, call her in, we know our roles, and we have a plan," Mr Lee confirmed.

It only took a few moments for the girl named Miss Gi Reyn to enter accompanied by her Mother.

The Managers sat back. They were professionals and quickly covered their surprise. They saw where the girl got her looks and by the appearance of her Mother she had a long, bright future.

.

Gi and her mother bowed deeply to the managers, "Thank you for meeting with us," Mrs Reyn said.

"We're glad you came, Mrs Reyn," Mr Lee greeted her mother.

"I'm sorry my husband could not be here, he is always working," Mrs Reyn said, and Gi's mind immediately jumped to the fact her father was always working because of their debts.

"We're happy to meet with two lovely ladies," Mr Lee said waving her apology away. "I'm sure you are busy, and especially Gi, so we will just explain our position and hand you the contract for review."

Mr Gok cleared his throat, "Miss Gi Reyn, we would like to welcome you back into the scholarship program first of all. Effective immediately if you accept. This has no strings attached other than YG get first, and last, right of refusal when it comes to signing a fulltime contract."

"We have added a small amount of money to apologise for dropping your scholarship, which is paid to you monthly, and we have an addendum where we take over your social media. This is of concern to us. Hence we are willing to pay you for the inconvenience it will cause."

Mr Gok continued, "Your social media revenue will become the property of YG, but we will pay you sixty percent of any revenue, minus costs incurred. What you get, as you are giving forty percent away is; we will moderate the social media, clean it up and market it under the YG label. This will more than make up for your loss."

Mr Lee chimed in, "Miss and Mrs Reyn, do not make a decision today. Think this over, but I feel this is a good solution for all of us. My experts tell me the social media accounts would be a distraction for Gi, but from my experience, this is at a time she needs to concentrate on finishing school and training hard. She can add videos and photos as she likes and we will take care of the rest including responses to fans."

Gi raised her hand as if to ask to speak.

Mr Lee nodded.

"Thank you sir, I would very much like this. Twitter, Instagram and YouTube have all become so toxic that I cannot use them. I appreciate the offer." Gi stated.

There was a pause.

Mrs Reyn bowed deeply and asked, "Is there anything else Sirs?"

Mr Lee looked across the table and received negative responses.

Mr Lee asked Mr Tong, "Would group training be a good idea for the school holidays?"

Mr Tong was surprised but bowed his head to Mr Lee, "Yes Sir. That can be arranged."

"There was one thing I wanted to ask," Gi stated.

Mr Lee nodded again.

"Please consider my friends Suzie Kim and Misha Kay. They are talented, and we work well together," Gi stated.

Mr Lee looked at Mr Gok who nodded, "Noted. Miss Reyn, we watch everyone from the feeder academy closely do not fret."

Gi was wondering when this was. Perhaps twice a year at recitals. Hardly adequate.

Mrs and Miss Reyn bowed and left with the offer at the end of the meeting.

After the two beautiful ladies were well out of earshot, Mr Gok stated. "That was not a good sign."

Mr Lee nodded, "I am concerned that Mr Tong is correct. If she is that headstrong in front of four seniors, with her mother present to do the talking, imagine what she would be like as an idol. Control would be difficult with this one."

Mr Lee stood.

"Should we retract the offer Sir?" Mr Gok asked.

Mr Lee shook his head. "My strategy still applies. Good luck Mr Tong."

Mr Tong sighed, thinking he was going to need it.
