Loving A Triple Threat

Chapter 24 - The Protector

Jae-Sun set up a folding chair for the night. He would walk their section, to stay awake, and when everything quietened down, he would rest in the folding chair with a string tied to the tent flap. Any major disturbance or movement would wake him in the early hours.

He would sleep with one eye open from three until dawn. It was not much, but he was able to snag a couple of hours during the late afternoon. It would be enough.

He walked the perimeter and looked across the fields to zone D. The other zones were in chaos. It was harmless, teenager chaos; until it was not. He hoped no accidents happened, not just for his charges but for everyone.

Security was allowing the boys to blow off some steam, he listened on the radio.

It hummed, "Two am is lights out, a strict curfew. We will force them to rest." It was the deputy chief.

"Any special instructions for Two am sir?"

"No. Follow the standard procedures, but start warning them now. I want every man-child to know that at Two am, we will get serious. So, no surprises for the guests, when we come down hard."

Officer Jae-Sun Ruek smiled, 2am would be fun, he should join in the action.

He checked his phone; nothing from Suzie. He didn't like to, but he listened to the bug he placed for her safety. Within a second he turned off the audio from the bug. She was more than okay.

While the probability that Hyuk would misbehave was extremely low, Jae-Sun wouldn't ignore Suzie and just assume everything was okay. There was also the possibility of outside factors, as well. They were in the most chaotic section.

Jae-Sun chuckled to himself, they were banging away, in the centre of section D, while boys ran amok trying to find a date all around them, like headless chickens.

He sat down to relax, it was well after midnight, and the kids were in the tent, probably sound asleep. He sighed, whenever he thought about them as a group, he thought of them as kids. But he was willing to kiss Gi, and she was only seventeen. If he hadn't diverted her with the revenge idea, well, he knew where they were headed. And all because she was vulnerable.

There was no doubt he would have been taking advantage of her. He had to end this before they did something they would both regret.

He hadn't set up the string, not yet, he would go for another walk soon. But that didn't stop him noticing the flap open, as a dark shape crawled out.

"I was hoping you were sitting here," she said quietly, "You know, you don't make any noise for someone so tall."

"You need your rest, and I need to check on Suzie," he lied.

She walked up behind him, placing her crossed arms on his shoulders. She was wearing almost nothing, a white t-shirt and plainly visible p.a.n.t.i.e.s. Thankfully, now that she was behind him, the temptation wasn't staring him in the face.

He could smell her hair as it fell over his shoulders and down his c.h.e.s.t. Her cheek touched his, and she whispered, "Are there any empty tents, do you know?"

"No Miss," he replied.

"Miss?" She queried.

"I am on duty, please…" he said in desperation. He knew she was his kryptonite.

"You were a hero tonight, I haven't had a chance to thank you," Gi said.

"Miss, I merely assisted, you and Blackpink were the heroes."

She humphed, "The whole plan was yours. I didn't know you could be so devious. And it was you who explained the situation to Blackpink. You won them over. All I did was cry and dance," she said.

"And wrote a song which gave them the idea of how to end the night," he added. "That was the pivotal moment; when they read your lyrics, you won their hearts."

The conversation segued to phones; she admitted, "My phone is going nuts you know. I had to turn it off."

He chuckled, "A new problem for tomorrow. I may be able to provide security, but I can't help you with that side of your business."

"We could do it in the field, or at least make out... ," she breathed, "I want you."

His heart didn't know what to do, and that, was a new sensation for him. His head would fluctuate, but his heart had always been steady as a rock.

He was torn in her presence, and not for the first time. He wanted her, she was courageous, gifted and of course beautiful in so many ways, every man would want her. But he was an a.d.u.l.t, at almost twenty-four years old, while she was seventeen, still a girl in many ways.

And deep down, in his heart, he knew this was a girlhood crush.

His true heart finally spoke.

"I can't, no I won't," he said.

"Why?" She stuttered the word out, she was hurt by his rejection.

"Because you are still a girl," he chose his words carefully, they would hurt her, but protect her at the same time.

"That's not for you to decide," she breathed into his ear. "I know myself."

He turned in his chair to face her. Braving the inevitable power of her attraction.

"And I know myself," He said, he forgot to add that she was determined when cataloguing her attributes.

Her resolute stare met his. She had been crying, he could tell from the reds in her eyes. His heart broke.

"Don't make me," he said revealing his thoughts.

"Make you what?" She asked.

"Hurt you, to convince you, it's not right," he said sadly.

Her eyes welled up with water again, she was lost for words. His words hit her hard, it was a rejection, no matter how it was wrapped.

He stood slightly and pulled her head into his c.h.e.s.t, stroking her hair as she cried.

"I will always protect you," he said softly and added to himself.

Even if it's from me.
