And you actually couldn’t blame Wei Jing entirely either. The year prior, his mother had just passed away, and his father brought him back to the old family house, only to neglect him. The sensitive child felt something was wrong, and spent day after day unhappy and depressed. He channeled all his pent up aggression into studying, and so to him… what even were ‘schoolmates’? Could you eat them?

He had a chauffeur drive him to and from school; he ate alone, went to the bathroom alone, studied alone; and it was this lonely Wei Jing that oddly attracted the admiration of others.

And now, Wei Jing not only initiated the conversation with him, he even gave him a treat to eat. It was as if a long-cherished wish suddenly came true. Xu Jiahui was so excited he could cry a river from happiness. He put the two pieces of chocolate in his pockets, and decided to keep them in a safe place at home.

Wei Jing looked at the child’s slightly twisted face and felt the corner of his own lips twitch. Was it really necessary for him to hate himself this much?

Seeing Wei Jing only personally gave Xu Jiahui chocolates, the chubby kid felt unwilling. A pout on his face, he yanked the entire box of chocolates out of the other child’s hands, and said, “I have a lot more of this stuff at home, what’s so good about it? It’s so bitter. You’re acting like it’s some goody, you’re so stingy.”

Wei Jing suddenly had his chocolates taken from him inexplicably, then said, “…so why did you eat it just now?”

The chubby kid grew silent for a few seconds, then exclaimed with an especially proud air of justice, “I’m just trying it for you to see how nasty this thing can be.”

“Then I really should thank you.” Wei Jing helplessly shook his head, then reached out his hand. “If you don’t like it, then return it to me.” He was an adult now, so he really shouldn’t argue too much with a child.

“Nope, nope, and nope, come get it! If you come get it I’ll give it to you.” The fat boy gave an irksome grin.

Wei Jing thought to himself, he clearly was still a child right now – at least his body was still young. All that about being an adult, to hell with it! But before he could act, Xu Jiahui who sat behind him pushed the fat boy and stole the chocolates from his hands at lightning speed. He cooly crossed his arms, stared down at little Wei Jing condescendingly and lectured, “Be careful next time, don’t be so stupid. You’re so dumb.”

Xu Jiahui: I’m so cool!

A cloud of black lines appeared above Wei Jing’s forehead. The “domineering president”* pose, the accompanying words….. oh, no! So shameful. (*Translator Note: from the Badao Zongcai (roughly means domineering company president/CEO) trope in Chinese novels)

After being pushed to the ground, the fat boy stood up angrily and aimed his fist at the boy in return. Darn it! How dare this good-for-nothing Xu Jiahui push him! Watch him slam him down with his weight… As soon as he landed his first hit, his opponent unavoidably started fighting back. The two went back and forth, but both were too scared to swing their hardest. And so the fight became almost child’s play; the crowd was dumbfounded.

These were the two little overlords of the class – nobody dared step in to break up the fight. A silence fell on the entire classroom, and only the grunts and curses of the two could be heard.

Wei Jing thought to himself, he definitely grew up, he couldn’t understand the minds of these children any more.

“Stop fighting, you two.” Buddha said, if I don’t enter hell, who will? Wei Jing gritted his teeth and forced himself between the two. The fat boy couldn’t contain his power in time, and his fist came crashing down on the child’s frail shoulders.

“Y-y-you…” the chubby kid stuttered, “who let you into the fight? Does it hurt? Do you want to see a doctor, your arm didn’t break, right?” He looked like he was about to cry again.

Wei Jing rubbed his slightly aching shoulders, shocked by the boy’s words. Was…. was he worried about him?

“Who told you to hit so hard..” Xu Jiahui circled around the boy nervously, and said, “I’ll carry you to the nurse’s office.”

Great! Wei Jing squinted his eyes as a glint of inspiration hit him. A few drops of pitiful tears formed in his eyes; looking as if he was about to cry, he said, “I’m not hurt. Stop fighting you guys, it’s almost time for class.”

“No, no, we’re not going to fight,” the two boys said together.

Nice, plan was a success!

Somehow he felt… a bit wronged that his past self got bullied! Who would’ve known that these two goons were such cowards! Just a few feigned tears was all it took to scare them like this.
