Law Of Creation

Chapter 52 - Grade 1 Mercenary City

"Oh, how poor of you. Oh, guardian spirit! Why is there a lot of evil around us? Those accursed bandits!"

In front of Mingyue was a skinny and tanned middle-aged old man with a long and messy white beard. He didn't wear any shirt, but he was wearing and circling some clothes around his head. Fortunately, he didn't cover his face, or else Mingyue wouldn't dare to be together with the old man.

This middle-aged old man was called Old Hu.

He was the first person that Mingyue found after she left the Cloudy Mist Forest.

Day 93rd, the month of the earth, aka spring.

After Mingyue and company went out of the Cloudy Mist Forest, the feather that was left by the peac.o.c.k wasn't functioned anymore. Since the feather had done its job, Mingyue just put it carefully inside her clothes. And another problem was knocking in front of her.

Direction and food.

Of course, after Mingyue came out of the Cloudy Mist Forest, she was at lost. With no settlement nor people nearby, she was forced to move around aimlessly. Don't worry, since there was no one around, she still rode on Xiao Wu. But unfortunately, the biggest challenge for Mingyue was food.

After leaving the Cloudy Mist Forest, the only thing she ate was the food ration. The not-delicious, not-yummy, and hard-to-bite. She wanted to cry all the time. Even Xiao Jing and Xiao Wu were avoiding those food rations on purpose.

[No! This is not food! ]

[This is purgatory!!!]

Alas! There was nothing around her. Only flat land with a highway dividing the flatland. Not even animal passed by.

And in the middle of her suffering, she saw something coming.

[Someone! Food! Life-saver!!!]

With these hopes, Mingyue told Xiao Wu to return as she stood in the middle of the highway.

The highway was made from a bunch of stone and sand. It was crudely made, but it was easier for a wagon or carriage to move around.

Mingyue waved her hands, wishing for that small wagon to stop by. Her clothes were dirty and her appearance was like a lost child, thanks to her adventure. Or more exactly, her adventure to find another type of food other than food ration.

And the wagon full of hay that Mingyue saw was manned by an elderly. But when she greeted him as an elderly, that elderly told her to call him as a middle-aged old man.

"I am not that old, little brat."

"I am not a little brat, middle-aged old man"

"That's sound good. Okay, call me middle-aged old man. I am younger that way."

". . ."

That was how it is. Thus, that was how Mingyue got her salvation. Her life-saver.

"Those lawless bandits! How could they just burn everything after pillaging? Did they have no any conscience?" Old Hu was roaring after Mingyue told him about her fake background.

She made her background as a survivor from a small village. Her village was burnt and nothing was left. In the end, as the only survivor from her village, she began her journey and depending on a natural resource to alleviate her hunger.

Thanks to her tiny and fragile body, Old Hu believed her story.

"Old Hu, is there a lot of bandits here?" Mingyue was being curious. Ever since she lived in this world, she had grown in a safe environment. She never saw or heard anything about a human was attacking another human blatantly. Like a bandit.

"Yup, there is a lot. But they wouldn't aim for us here. Haha." Old Hu had a big confidence. Mingyue didn't understand the source of his confidence.

"Shouldn't we become an easy target for them?"

"We have nothing on this cheap wagon. This hay would only be a burden from them, and my donkey was very cheap. They wouldn't be interested. And no one insane enough to rob this bunch of haystacks." Od Hu whistled

"Oh, is that so. Then then, what if someone wants to sell both of us? If I am not wrong, the Earth Kingdom had been accepting slaves."

Slave. They couldn't even control their own fate and life. In the Fire Kingdom, there is only one type of slave. Crime slave, the people who become a slave after violating some rules. For example, killing another human, or even became a bandit.

But it was another story in the Earth Kingdom. There are a lot of slave's types. Debt slave, crime slave, and war slave. And what Mingyue worried was that they would be sold as a debt slave.

Originally, debt slave was the people that sold themselves in exchange for a large sum of gold. But because the demand for slaves was too big and the supplies were limited. High demand low supplies were the things that most of the nobility at the Earth Kingdom would love. And the irony began here.

People would be caught and sold to the slave trader in exchange for gold. Not only that, a village would be plundered and the villager would be sold as slaves. So you could say that human lives had become a sell-able merchandise.

"Ah, I understand your worry. The distance between the Earth Kingdom to this place was a little far. I don't think those slave trader would be willing to spend so much to catch this elderly."

"So, are you a middle-aged old man or an elderly?" Mingyue rolled her eyes at old Hu's shamelessness.

"I am an elderly in front of those slave traders. Hahaha."

Day 97th, the month of the earth, aka spring.

"Little brat, we have arrived!" Old Hu disturbed Mingyue's sleep.

"Arrived? Where?" From first, Mingyue never asked Old Hu about their destination because all she requested was to bring her to his destination.

"Go rub your face first. Welcome to the Grade 1 Mercenary City, the Green River City." Old Hu was being loud, even though it was still dawn.

Obviously, Mingyue never woke up at dawn, since most people hadn't woken up yet.

"Hm? Mercenary City? So, is this Mercenary City or Green River City?" Mingyue was puzzled by Old Hu's introduction.

"Of course it is Green River City. That Mercenary City means that in this city, there is a Mercenary Guild. An active Mercenary Guild, I mean." Old Hu looked proud when he was introducing this city.

"Active? Why do we need an inactive Mercenary Guild?"

"Inactive? I didn't say anything about inactive. I said an active Mercenary Guild. That means this place is one of many places that have the danger of Fierce Beast. Do you know about Fierce Beast, little brat? I bet not"

"Er, what kind of place that has the danger of Fierce Beast? Why? How they work?" Mingyue was stressed by the inconsistent words of Old Hu.

[Heck, if you want to tell a story, finish the damn story first!]

"Nah, you should experience this place yourself. Little brat, since we have arrived, what's your plan?" Old Hu didn't want to waste so much of his time since he had to deliver the haystacks.

"Hm, I will wander around this city, then." After pondering it a little, Mingyue thought that it was better for her to split up with Old Hu.

Old Hu didn't seem to care about her decision. He just waved his hand to Mingyue while driving the wagon.

"Be careful, okay. Since this place was a Mercenary City, the citizen didn't need to have their own identification. But make sure to avoid anything related to crime. If you are caught without any identification, you would be sold as a crime slave."

What? Identification? Then that means if I arrived at a non-Mercenary City, then I won't be able to go to that city then? Seriously?

[Really a pain in the a.s.s. . .]

"Old Hu! Where should I make the identification!" Mingyue shouted at the far Old Hu.

Old Hu didn't slow his wagon or turned around, but he just answered it casually, "The easiest is Mercenary Guild. Be careful since it cost some copper."

After that, Mingyue turned her body while counting the amount of silver she had in her mind.

[Sigh. In my last life, things like gold or silver were no different than some craps.]

[And now, I am in a real need of them.]

[Nah, let's take a look at the Mercenary guild first.] Mingyue muttered while exploring the empty city.
