Episode 4 – My Reason for Choosing You (1)

“Would you like to see the product?”

A gender-neutral voice called out to Edelis.

“Yes.”

Lehan was in a state where it was difficult to say that he was healed, and he had only just stopped the bleeding and bandaged a few leaves of herbs.

The manager called the guide who was waiting outside and instructed him to wake Lehan.

Then, the gladiator in this room, who was also standing outside, quickly ran and brought a bucket of water.

“No wait, what are you…”

Before Edelis could say anything, he poured cold water on Lehan.

The manager smiled and spread his cloak wide to keep the water from splashing on Edelis.

However, Edelis could not see the manager in a good light, who could not even provide proper treatment to the person who had fallen down and lost a lot of blood, but only sprinkled water.

“Cough! Cough! Cough!”

When Lehan opened his eyes with difficulty, coughing, golden eyes appeared.

As if he had not even used a painkiller, but just put herbs on him, Lehan frowned his face in pain.

“Lehan, are you okay?”

The manager asked, casually, even though Lehan was barely hanging on to life.

Lehan looked around, trying to take in his surroundings, before answering the manager.

“Yes,” he said, though it was clear that he was not.

“Good,” the manager said. “Let’s take a look at you.”

Edelis was horrified.

Even without thinking about the game Lehan had just played, it was clear that he was in no condition to be up and about.

She wanted to ask for Lehan’s treatment, but she knew that she was in no position to do so.

If she left Lehan alone, he would likely die.

If that happens, will the future change?

Or, will the future change only when Edelis takes him and saves him?

No one gave her an answer.

‘Even if the future changes because Lehan dies, I feel uncomfortable. …It’s like he died in my place. And even if I don’t take Lehan, he’ll survive and the future won’t change.’

In the end, Edelis decided that the best option was to take Lehan to the residence and have him treated.

In addition, she knew that the contents of the book were true, but there was no clue except for ‘Lehan’.

“It’s okay, I don’t want to look at it. How much is it?”

Edelis said, trying to hide her trembling voice.

“He is injured, so we cannot offer a good price. However, there are many spectators who want to see him die. Not a few people have lost a lot of money because of Lehan…”

Edelis felt like she was going to vomit when she saw the manager smiling and talking in front of the person without hesitation, in order to get a penny more.

In addition, Lehan’s life seemed to be in danger, so Edelis did not have time to listen to his ridiculous stories.

“So? I will pay you anything, so call as much as you want.”

* * *

Edelis, who had received a generous farewell from the manager, was heading back to the residence with Lehan.

Edelis, who still had not decided what to do with Lehan, and Lehan, who was wondering what to say, was the first to speak.

“Why did you buy me out of all the gladiators?”

His cold voice reached Edelis.

Even though he was sweating on his face, he was trying to hide his sick look.

Edelis couldn’t tell Lehan, ‘Your name came out in the book. I’m destined to die, and you’re an important person.’

So she lied with a mixture of truth and lies.

“Your name came out from the stands. They say you’re very skilled.”

“Then what do you want me to do?”

Edelis flinched for a moment.

It seemed like she had been caught not having decided yet what to do with Lehan.

“…I’ve heard that gladiators are often taken as escorts.”

Lehan looked at Edelis intently in response to her ambiguous answer.

“So wouldn’t it be much more profitable to take a knight as an escort or buy an adult gladiator?”

Edelis couldn’t answer Lehan, who was only speaking the truth.

At least it was better to buy another healthy gladiator than to buy a dying gladiator.

‘But what if I need Lehan, the main character in the book, not another gladiator!’

In fact, Edelis doesn’t know if he will save her life later, but if she thinks of it as an investment, she feels at ease.

Edelis thought that if she treated Lehan, the main character in the novel well, he would not have a negative impact on her later.

Edelis felt that Lehan might play a decisive role in her survival.

But Lehan said coldly with an expressionless face.

“Escorts are not only used for guarding.”

“…What?”

“Assassination.”

Lehan spoke with conviction, as if to say that it was time to get to the point.

But Edelis was startled and horrified, and quickly shook her hands in denial.

“Absolutely not! That kind of thing is dangerous.”

Lehan looked at Edelis as if he didn’t understand what she was saying.

It makes sense. People buy gladiators to do dangerous work, not to live with him.

Especially since the gladiator’s status is unclear, they are often used as expendables.

However, Edelis was prepared to live with Lehan, contrary to his expectations.

‘My life is in danger, so I can live with him, I think.’

However, Edelis, who could not explain the situation in detail, decided to give up persuading Lehan with logic.

What if logic doesn’t work? She would just have to lie!

“Because I like you.”

“…Huh?”

“I like you more than the other gladiators.”

This claim did not require any evidence. It was a personal subjective feeling.

‘What are you going to do now that I say I like you?’

As expected, Lehan’s face was stained with embarrassment.

He had lived a life where he never knew when he would die, and he was not immune to flattering words.

The plan seemed to have worked, as a look of confusion was evident on Lehan’s face.

Edelis’ lips curved into a smile when she saw him.

“I like the color of your hair and the color of your eyes.”

She swallowed the words, ‘But the name is the most important.’

When he heard her words, Lehan closed his mouth in a strange situation.

Edelis smiled at him and said,

“First, let’s get you treated by our doctor, in the Earldom. Once you’re healed, you can expect a lot.”

When Lehan arrived at the Earl’s residence, he received the best possible treatment from the resident physician until he was completely healed, as Edelis had promised.

The servants were wary of Lehan, who had been a gladiator, but they could not help but obey Edelis’ request.

‘Why are you being so kind to me?’

Lehan was rather puzzled by Edelis’ consistent kindness.

He was puzzled as to why she said she liked him when she had only seen him once.

He thought he would be deployed to the field immediately after he arrived at the residence, but he was wrong.

He thought he would be sent to the field when he got a little better, thinking that he could not perform the mission in a state of near-death.

He thought he could escape when his body was somewhat recovered, but strangely enough, Edelis kept coming to see him during the day.

Lehan tried to sneak away in the middle of the night, but the guards who were guarding him were quite strict.

One day, while he was working hard to secure an escape route, he had a hypothesis that he had never seriously considered before.

‘Does she really bought me because she likes my appearance?’

Lehan stood in front of the mirror and stared at his hair and eyes for a long time.

Even though he had tidied it up, it was clear that he still looked rough.

It was not something that would be pleasing to the eyes of a noble lady who was raised delicately.

Lehan himself couldn’t wrap around his head why he was brought here, and he would sometimes ask Edelis.

But Edelis replied as if he was asking something obvious.

“Because I like you.”

Luka: BECAUSE I LO–LIKE YOU!!! Phew, I wish could be this straight-forward to my crush, Lehan was definitely caught off guard!
