Chapter 46

“Aahh, aacck!”

His teacher saw how his sword stopped as it reached the death row inmate and clicked his tongue. This kid’s heart is too weak. If the Emperor finds out about this, he will kill Jeremiah and him as well. The teacher grabbed Jeremiah’s wrist. He swung the sword while tightly holding onto Jeremiah’s hand to prevent him from letting go.

Swish –

The death row inmate fell with the sound of the sword cutting. Jeremiah’s dilated pupils reflected how the death row inmate helplessly fell down on his death. Blood was splattered all over his face. It was still warm – as if it was to prove that the person he killed had just been alive. Jeremiah dropped his sword because of his trembling hands. As he took a step backwards, his teacher looked at him with pity.

“You will have to do anything for you to live.”

He threw away the sword after coldly killing a person. Spitting, the teacher pushed Jeremiah back to his place.

“Do it right. Did you forget that my neck is also hanging on your neck, Imperial Prince? If you can’t do it right, you have to work hard. Then I can have something to report to His Majesty.”

Jeremiah couldn’t hear anything. He swallowed his tears. He killed a person with his own hands. But still, the strange feeling of wielding his sword was still there. Jeremiah rubbed his face. But instead of wiping away the blood, it spread even more.

“Ah, aaahhhhhhhh!”

Jeremiah buried his face on the floor and burst into tears that he had been holding back. I killed a person. It was something that would shatter the innocence and childhood of the still alive and breathing Jeremiah. And just like that, he entered his fate – to the fate that Alexa fears so much.

The mansion came to life when those who had been on the battlefield had returned. The servants were three times busier. They had to look after and treat injured knights with Karrolf which the doctors had already classified in categories. They even hired short-term workers from the village nearby in order to fill in the lacking manpower. Alexa heard from the Head Maid that it was always chaos after every war.

She advised that it would be better for Alexa to stay inside her room with strangers coming and going. They thought of Alexa as a fragile glass bead, so they were worried about her getting hurt.

But on the other hand, Alexa was worried that Ysildus might use this situation to make another accident. Ysildus becomes more sensitive when there are many people he doesn’t know. So when they went to the Knight Orders’ quarters yesterday, they walked around while holding each of the knights’ hands.

Even though Alexa always scolds him every time he does that, she couldn’t stop feeling anxious. It was better to have Ysildus in a situation that won’t make her feel anxious. No matter how much one explains things to a beast that couldn’t talk, their understanding was limited.

‘I feel like he understands me sometimes but ignores it.’

Alexa pursed her lips and concentrated on reading the book.

“Alexa, are you not going on a stroll today? I want to go on a picnic though.”

“Aren’t you wanting to go to a picnic just to eat rice balls, Terrun?” Alexa pointed it out.

Terrun usually has a large amount of exercise, so he prefers to lie down than run around. But seeing that he was asking her to go out, the answer could easily be seen.

“Yep.” Terrun meekly nodded his head. “I want to eat rice balls.”

“You can just ask your mom to make it for you.”

“Mom can’t cook.” Terrun replied blankly. Although Violetta would hit him on his head five times if she heard that.

Violetta and Visten were both busy. Violetta was responsible for overseeing the administration of the Knights Order by nature, while Visten was Carlisle’s aide. So lately, it was hard to see their faces as a result. They might not be able to see each other hadn’t it been for having lunch and dinner together.

The Grand Duchess was also busy taking care of the wounded and the bereaved. Nevertheless, she often stopped by to check out on Alexa, Terrun and Ysildus.

[‘You should eat more, Alexa. Don’t tell me that Ysu even steals your food and eat it?’]

Today as well, the Grand Duchess was measuring Alexa’s height with a displeased face and clicking her tongue. Alexa was doing her best for a steady growing up, but the Grand Duchess doesn’t seem to be satisfied with it. In any case, Carlisle on the other hand seldomly visits them. He just often asked Alexa questions on dinner.

Questions like, ‘Are humans that weak?’ or ‘What do you like the most?’

These were his same and ordinary questions he asked her. Alexa could put up her five fingers on the fact that the most dangerous figure in this Grand Duchy was Carlisle. Even though he had a smile on his face, there was a threatening look with that. In fact, it was hard to say that he was such a dangerous person when one looks at how he treats Alexa.

Actually, that was the case with the people inside the Grand Duchy. Who on earth would have thought that these people were villains? They may not look like it, but they were the greatest villain family of the Empire. Not only that, but thanks to that same group of wolves who already lost any sense of humanity in them, they see human life as small as a fly. Alexa thought that it was like dandelion spores blown away by the wind.

Anyway, stop complaining. Alexa patted Terrun’s head.

“I’ll make it later.”

“Later? When?”

“In a week.”

Terrun gently nodded his head. This is around the time Terrun had his secondary sexual characteristics that he went through mental maturity. The timing of secondary sexual characteristics differs depending on the wolf. And Terrun, unlike others, lagged behind. Considering that wolves usually start to develop their secondary sexual characteristics at the age of 15 or 16….

‘Terrun is only 15….’

But still, time will come for Terrun sooner or later. His mental age will grow rapidly, and he becomes an adult. The meek Terrun rolled over the rug again. At that moment….

“Alexa.”

The door opened and the Head Maid entered. She walked to Alexa holding a nose walk in her hands that Alexa described the other day.

“Did we make it right?”

“Yes!”

It was exactly what Alexa was thinking of. Moreover, the colors orange and green definitely matched the theme of a carrot field. Alexa nodded with satisfaction.

“Thank you.”

Taking Ysildus’ favorite snack, Alexa pulled out the carrots and hid it in there one by one. There were a total of seven carrots. It was also made with a depth that Ysildus could pull out and eat while he was searching for his snacks.

“Ysu, look at this! This is yours!”

Alexa waved the carrot in front of Ysildus. The latter leapt along the swaying carrots. Alexa made sure that Ysildus saw how she hid the snacks inside before putting it in front of him.

Sniffing, Ysildus hovered around the toy. It was his favorite snack, so he was naturally showing interest in it. Even the Head Maid was watching with bated breath and was wondering how Ysildus would act. After a while, Ysildus started digging through the toy with his paws and trying to get the snacks inside.

But unlike the flimsy doll Alexa made, it was made to make sure that he won’t be able to easily tear the tightly sewn fabric. Realizing that he couldn’t tear it apart, Ysildus shoved his nose inside. Gnawing it with his teeth and trying to somehow rip off the toy, he looked at Alexa with a cry.

“I won’t take it out for you! You do it yourself, Ysu.”

Alexa tightly closed her eyes and turned her gaze away from the cute Ysildus. In this way, she can develop Ysildus’ independence. Ysildus tapped the toy and circled around again. He had a look that aims for one’s weakness.

“You can just pull out the carrots. Are you stupid?”

Frustrated, Terrun said while pulling out a carrot then putting it back in. Ysildus circled around the toy once again. Then after hesitating for a while, he tapped the carrot with his nose. Realizing that there was no threat, he bit the leaf. After crying out for another while, he pulled out the carrot.

“Wow! Ysu did a good job! You’re amazing!”

With Alexa giving more than needed praise, Ysildus pulled out the next carrot. He put his nose where he took out the carrot and ate the snack on it.

“Aww, our baby is all grown up now!”

Alexa couldn’t contain her excitement and stood beside him.

“Do more, do more!”

With their continuous cheer, Ysildus pulled out the carrots one by one. Then he ate the snacks inside with gusto. So, was it just about my snacks? Alexa looked at Ysildus who was wagging his tail beside the carrot field like a watchman. If she knew he would like it so much, she would have made it sooner for him. Since it was made in sturdy fabric, she doesn’t have to worry about it being torn off by Ysildus’ teeth.

Ysildus nibbled and sniffed on the carrot field. Realizing that he finished eating them all, he put the carrot in his mouth and shook it. He tossed it in the air, ran over it, rolled over it, and then tossed up the carrot again. Seeing how Ysildus was shaking the carrots with all his might, Alexa burst out into laughter.

“Look, Terrun. Isn’t our Ysu really cute?”

“Yes.” Terrun replied blankly. His gaze was on Alexa and not Ysildus.

(T/N: Terrun-ah, come into my arms. You will never have to sneak a peek <3)
