Lucius watched as the enraged Treant roared, causing tens of vines to shoot out from the ground into the air.

Lucius watched such a horrifying sight with bated breath as he prepared to reinforce his body with mana and defend himself .

Even Veronica formed a small fire shield in front of him when Lucius felt something was off

It was strange to put it into words, but for some reason. Despite seeing countless vines in the sky soaring in his direction, Lucius didn't see me to feel any sense of threat

Looking at the approaching vines Lucius wandered what could be the reason for this strange feeling and that's when he noticed it.

'No! Those vines aren't aiming for me!'

Lucius figured out the problem but it was already too late.

The vines suddenly sped up flying past Lucius like billets as they smashed into Veronica's body sending her flying through the forest

  "Veronica!"

Lucius called out desperately towards Veronica, but he couldn't see anything.

Lucius turned around and was about to go and check on Veronica, and that's where Lucius made his mistake.

See In Sanctuary, Lucius instructors had made sure to drill one basic rule into his head, but after seeing Veronica get yeeted like that, his heart stopped and he had forgotten all his training in this urgent moment.

The rule he had forgotten was simple:

You Never turn your back on the battlefield.

Suddenly, Lucius felt his skin crawl as all his hair stood on edge.

He quickly turned around to see a horrifying sight

'…Huge.'

All Lucius saw was the giant fist of treant that seemed to block out the sun crashing down towards his face.

"Boom!"

There was a horrifying sound as Lucius's body was sent ragdolling through the air before he crashed into a half-burnt tree.

"Bang!"

As Lucius landed against the trees, splinters flew everywhere as human shapes impression was left in the tree trunk.

Although Lucius managed to defend his body with mana at the last second, when you were hit with that kind of truck-like force, his mana defence really didn't do much.

Lucius was left groaning and whimpering as he desperately tried to maintain his consciousness

Right now he was in an extremely concussed state as his mind seemed to be plagued by a bell-like ringing that wanted to split his head apart!

His vision was completely blurred as everything he saw seemed to be swaying like a leaf in the wind.

'Fuck.. I'm so… tired… maybe I should just take a nap…'

As Lucius had this thought his eyelids suddenly seemed to be made of lead as they got heavier and heavier until….

"Thud!"

The sudden shake was enough to stir Lucius as he pried his eyes open and locked into the source of all this disturbance.

'The giant treant.' Thought Lucius

Realising what was happening, a wry smile appeared on his face.

'So this is how I go out huh? Killed by a treant after one mishap.'

Lucius just smiled mockingly at his own fate

But that's when Lucius noticed something wrong

'This… why isn't the Treant heading towards me?'

Suddenly Lucius had a realisation that shook his mind

'No, no… it can't be!'

The Treant was going after Veronica!

Seeing this, Lucius was both shocked and furious, but after he thought about it for a little while, it really made sense

Think about it,  compared to the half dead guy that was poking it with what could only be the equivalent of a metal toothpick, the bitch spewing out its one weakness fire would obviously be higher up on the kill list.

Realising what was happening, Lucius was instantly placed on high alert

It was like he had been working on a late-night shift and suddenly chugged three red bulls at once.

If he really did nothing, Veronica would die!

Could he accept this?

Could he accept the fate that would befall Veronica?

The naive girl who had been too shy to introduce herself properly and ended up secretly following him here

The clingy girl that had followed him down a cliff into an secret  cave offer now particular reason other than to spend some time together

The girl that had gone against her family and broke her engagement, practically throwing her old life behind.

Even if he was the one who fueled these flames and had been secretly scheming all of this to happen.

Could he really just sit back and watch her die like that?

For Lucius, the answer was obvious,

Of course he fucking couldn't!

He had to do something.

He had had to get up.

Lucius didn't dare stay still any longer.

He tried to stand up causing his already bruised and battered body to groan, but even though he was pushing his tired body past its limits, his heartbeat didn't slow down, on the contrary, it only sped up!

The Adrenaline in his body was being secreted to a shocking degree and was being pumped out all over his body!

As all this was happening the [Amulet of the High King] on his chest seemed to agree with Lucius's actions as the giant ruby glowed in a red light and Without even realising it, the whites of Lucius's eyes seemed to be dyed red ink as a familiar madness surfaced from within them.

Now feeling fully energised, Lucius got to his feet and moved towards the treant slowly speeding up from a staggered walk until he broke out into a full sprint.

Arriving behind the giant treant, Lucius leapt up and plunged his sword into the monster's back, but his face soon turned into a grimace.

Lucius tried to cut through the protective bark of treant, but this one's bark seemed to be even tougher than the last time he cut it!

His sword only managed to pierce the outer layer of bark, practically dealing no damage to the giant treant's body

  'Fuck! Fuck! Fuck!'

Lucius could only curse viciously at his ineffective move
