Forsaken By Love

Chapter 95 - Observing He Lixue

He Lixue was unaware of Lu Nanfeng's thoughts. She thought that the greeting was already quite good, but upon looking at his stern and unwelcoming expression, she could instantly guess that his mood was not good.

It was not only her who realized this, but the housekeeper was also aware that his greeting of He Lixue had caused Lu Nanfeng to become very upset, and he sighed internally.

Although he had nothing against He Lixue, he had been told by the master to test her personality, and seeing that she was still polite and friendly, even when she was being treated so coldly, he raised his opinion on her a bit, but Lu Nanfeng was likely to cause havoc when he realized what Master Lu had prepared for her.

Lu Nanfeng held He Lixue's hand possessively, and he strode towards the manor's front door, completely ignoring the housekeeper who could only touch his nose embarrassedly.

He did not want to do this, but the master forced him! Also, he was not sure what to think of this woman who had appeared out of nowhere. If she was truly a gold digger, then he was against them being together, but looking at her right now, that did not seem to be the case.

They entered the manor, only to find that a bunch of servants were observing them. Lu Nanfeng frowned. Usually, the servants would be polite and hospitable. They would hide their presence, and only allow themselves to be seen when the owner of the mansion wanted their help for something.

But now they were gathered in groups, observing He Lixue, without even bothering to hide their emotions.

Some looked at her with curiosity, but most of them were hostile, and if looks could kill, then their gazes alone would have killed her ten times over.

But although they did not resemble the maids one would expect to meet in an upper-class family, He Lixue was utterly carefree. She did not care about these maids' thoughts; all that mattered to her was that Master Lu, Lu Nanfeng's father, did not dislike her.

Unbeknownst to her, in a study upstairs, the man in question was seated behind a desk and was observing everything that was happening downstairs.

He saw her polite demeanor to the housekeeper, and when she was greeted coldly, he noticed that there was no unhappiness in her face; in fact, she did not seem to put it in her eyes at all.

Now the maids were causing problems, and while he saw surprise and a bit of disbelief in her eyes, he did not see any discomfort or anger.

He was impressed. She was definitely doing much better than he had expected.

She could not have known that there were surveillance cameras in the rooms, as not even Lu Nanfeng was aware of this, and thus her reactions were natural.

Master Lu was satisfied and rose from his chair, ready to leave the study, when his attention was attracted to the screen again.

He suddenly saw his wife, Di Zhiqing, appear on the screen. Her expression was ugly, and her demeanor was intimidating.

Master Lu truly loved his wife, but he was not blind. He knew she had some shortcomings, and that she had some problems. He also understood that Lu Nanfeng was a grown man, and that it was not his mother's task to decide on his marriage partner.

But he was curious as to how He Lixue would handle his wife, so he turned up for the sound, ready to observe their clash, but he did not sit down. Instead, he stood up so that he could rush downstairs, in case things got out of hand.

He Lixue saw Di Zhiqing come towards her. Her steps were powerful, and she held a strong momentum that one would expect of a woman from the upper class.

Her eyes were ablaze with anger, and her body was trembling in a fury.

"How dare you set foot in my home!" she exclaimed. If not for her image, she would have cursed her as a hoof, but now she was amongst her own servants, and it was not suitable to be heard cursing.

"Mother, we were invited by Father," Lu Nanfeng warned her with a low voice, but Di Zhiqing had no patience to talk with her son. Her son had disappointed her greatly, so she just looked at him. "I am not speaking with you!" she exclaimed angrily.

Lu Nanfeng frowned, but then he felt a soft and petite hand on his arm, squeezing tightly, making him relax.

"Madam Lu," He Lixue said politely. "I would like to thank you and your husband for inviting me to dinner today. I have brought a potted orchid for you, alongside some small gifts. I hope you will not mind that they are not too expensive, but my salary is not too high."

Hearing her words, Di Zhiqing felt as if she had just punched cotton, and her facial expression turned ugly.

She was a high-class lady, so she could not get mad when He Lixue was so polite. No matter how angry she was, she had to hold it in.

Upstairs, in the study, Master Lu's expression turned rather odd. He had never expected that she would handle his wife so easily, and even so politely. He had actually looked forward to a catfight, but it ended like a deflated balloon.

Lu Nanfeng's lips twitched as he saw how He Lixue placed the potted orchid in his mother's arms.

"The orchid symbolizes luxury, beauty, and strength. It is a very elegant flower, and I felt that it suited your family perfectly."

Di Zhiqing was fuming with anger that she could not release, and she stood there awkwardly with the potted orchid in her arms, looking at He Lixue as if she wanted to devour her with her eyes.

Seeing this, Master Lu, who was still in the study, could not help but snort in laughter. He finally understood why his son was so head over heels for this woman. She was truly different.

But just as Lu Nanfeng was extremely protective of He Lixue, Master Lu was also overly careful when it involved Di Zhiqing, so he hurried downstairs to solve the problematic situation.
