Forsaken By Love

He Lixue shivered. She felt as if a big hand had grasped her heart and was slowly dragging her towards a cliff, trying to pull her down into the endless abyss beneath. 

She was not willing, she would never return! 

She felt fear for the first time since her rebirth. Finally, she was reminded of why the voice on the phone sounded familiar; it was clearly Little Five. 

Although he went by the name of Jiang Wu, everyone in the Organization, with a bit of power, called him Little Five, so He Lixue had not made a connection with the name before. 

If Little Five was the one who was tasked with getting her back, then she was not sure what to do. He was amongst the top assassins in the Organization, and he had never failed a task before. 

He Lixue quickly removed every trace of her hacking into the Organization's mainframe, and with shivering hands, she picked up the phone in her hands and dialed Lu Nanfeng's number.

While calling him, she was almost overcome with fear. How had they found her? No one ought to believe in reincarnation, so they should not have been on high alert to find her. 

What were their plans for her when they dragged her back into the endless darkness? She did not know, but this uncertainty scared her. 

"What's wrong, dear?" The voice of Lu Nanfeng somewhat soothed He Lixue, but her heart clenched. How was she going to tell him the truth? 

"I... I found out who was behind the kidnapping incident." Her voice was low, and Lu Nanfeng could hear her discomfort.

He did not rush her and chose to remain quiet. Taking a deep breath, He Lixue continued. "It is a criminal syndicate from overseas. They are known as the Organization. They deal with firearms and explosives, but they also have some assassination tasks and the like."

Lu Nanfeng frowned. What did the Organization want from his Lixue? 

"Brother Nanfeng," He Lixue called out his name in a low voice. "I have something I need to speak with you about," she said, her voice solemn, and the atmosphere grave. It was clear that it was a critical conversation. 

"I will be back tomorrow morning," Lu Nanfeng promised, but He Lixue stopped him. "Don't!" she called out. 

"I am going to tell you the truth now, and then you can spend the rest of your time abroad to think things through. If you want me to leave, just send me a text message, and I will leave right away."

Hearing her hopelessness, Lu Nanfeng's heart clenched. What could be so important that she thought that he would throw her away? 

"In a way, I am He Lixue, but in a way, I am not," He Lixue said with a sigh. "What I am about to tell you is something you can never tell others, and please, don't interrupt me before I am done."

"I promise," Lu Nanfeng felt that he was finally about to get the answers that had troubled him for some time. 

"I was another He Lixue before. I used to be a member of the Organization. But one day, I got killed while out on a task, and when I woke up, I was in this woman's body.

"I am no longer the former He Lixue, nor am I the new He Lixue, I am a mixture of both, as I have the memories and feelings of both lifetimes mixed.

"Before, as the other He Lixue I was an orphan. I got picked off the streets by my teacher, who found my talent for hacking. 

"I became their number one hacker and was forced into the darkness of the abyss. 

"One day, this darkness killed me, but somehow I ended up surviving in this He Lixue's body. The day I died was also the day I woke up.

"On one hand, I am not the He Lixue you thought I was, but on the other hand, I am."

He Lixue went silent. She had not gone into details, but she hoped that Lu Nanfeng could accept her, and her out-of-this-world story. 

"And now they know that you are still alive and want to take you back?" Lu Nanfeng asked, his voice was full of incredulity, clearly having a hard time believing what she said.

"It seems that way," He Lixue said with a sigh. 

"I'll protect you," Lu Nanfeng finally said. He Lixue had told him her biggest secret, and he was not someone who would abandon her just because of this. 

He had heard that when she woke up in the sanatorium, she was already this He Lixue, and as such, he only knew of one He Lixue, the one he loved. 

"The original soul won't suddenly counter-attack, right?" Lu Nanfeng could not help but ask. He was worried that his Lixue might vanish, but He Lixue consoled him.

"I don't think so," she said with uncertainty. "It feels as if the original soul has merged with mine. I am no longer just the person I was before; I am both He Lixue's, but mixed into one. It is just that the soul of the original He Lixue was weaker due to the coma, so my personality is mainly the orphan He Lixue's."

Lu Nanfeng nodded his head and thought for a bit longer. It was truly hard to believe what He Lixue was telling him, but he did not doubt it. This was the only reason why so many things would make sense. 

"Well, as long as you are my Lixue, I don't care too much," Lu Nanfeng finally said. "But let me find some way to cause some problems for the Organization. Only this way will they leave you alone."
