Executor Of Justice

Chapter 8 - Secret Sewer

The High Command of both the International Security Bureau and the Phoenix Republic has heard the news of the event at Zoe Nation. They are pissed at each other because of the different ideologies they have. The International Security Bureau upholds religious values mixed with imperial law to bring order and security to the world while the Phoenix Republic is all about democracy, as long as the people support it, they will pass the suggestion. Since war is technically illegal, they have no choice but to do a diplomatic negotiation to resolve the issue. The Republic wanted to sue the Security Bureau for the incident, but they realize they can't as they committed actions against the law. If they didn't confess their sin, then the Dragon Empire would also interfere by supporting the Security Bureau. At this stage, the Republic can't win against both factions on a head-to-head war.

They say they will hold a Convention to resolve the issue. This brings a higher level of distrust from the Security Bureau towards the Republic. It was clear as daylight that they were plotting something against them. As it was impossible to collect evidence and witnesses in broad daylight, the Security Bureau dispatched the nearest unit for the mission. There are 2 task forces available. The first one is Hector's task force, Judgement Hand. The second one is a heavy response task force Beta-9 "Overmag". Task Force Beta-9 is jealous of the popularity of Judgement Hand. Everyone was talking about it before they sleep. High Commands decides that it would be not wise to select a member of Overmag as the Commander of this operation. Eventually, Hector is chosen as the commander by multiple general officers.

Hector soon received wind of the news as the newly promoted Bureau Chief Drake Gibson informed him in an apologetic tone via a radio.

{My apologies, but the higher-ups have noticed your performance already. It doesn't look like I can cover up your actions anymore.}

{That's fine, I have an aim to accomplish there anyway}

{Good luck on your mission}

The total number of men in Hector's squad was only 10 excluding himself. He requested help from nearby security bureau branches to send him multiple standard containment unit. His guts were telling him it involves a monster in this scenario. No matter how big a human plan is, they can't do the impossible. Multiple Global Task Force combat helicopters were flying on the sky in stealth mode, making it impossible for the corrupted Republic to detect them. Their destination is a hidden military base in the middle of a wild forest. It is located beneath the ground to avoid attention. High Command didn't know what the base is being used for, but they know something very fishy is going on over there, which is why they were being dispatched at the moment.

They fill the tropical forest with monster versions of animals. A recent report shows that animals do this to adapt to the current situation. Even a small and is a crouching tiger here. The helicopters landed down approximately 1 km away from the entrance, which is disguised a sewer entrance. Many soldiers in black uniforms can be seen deployed carrying all sorts of blaster rifles and moving in an orderly formation. The design of the skull mask, armor and the special scent applied gave fear to the monsters, driving them away.

Strangely, there is no security entrance or cameras at all at the entrance. A thick smell was coming down below from a big gray metal door. Hector sent down Task Force Overmag to investigate the scene while he and his squad go for the databank zone.

The underground base is very old and dirty. It looks like no one has been here at all. Weird sounds, however, can be heard. The motion detector proves useless in the field as if there is a jammer nearby.

Overmag Task Force Captain, Ruth V. Lewis used to work as an assassin for the Republic government in the past. She can't help but feel guilty carrying out this mission, what if I hesitate and caused my men to die? The main reason High Command chose her to participate in the mission is to push her mind to the limit. The International Security Bureau doesn't care where you come from, what matters are your loyalty and skills. Those who doubt the Security Bureau never get to see their parents again. Once you join in, there is nearly no way out. Unless you achieve great results or deemed no longer fit enough, only then will you have valid reasons to leave.

Deep down the sewer, the contaminated water and gas are deadly enough to subdue anyone who inhaled it in the first second. Many corpses made of rats and insects are floating on the water.

" Look there is an opened door over there!" exclaimed one of the soldiers.

"Lieutenant Danielle, you go check it out. We got your back."

"Got it."

Danielle approached the door in front of them slowly, before stopping.

"All clear. Captain, you might want to see this."

Since there is no danger, Captain Ruth holstered her gun and walked to Danielle's position. On the door's grey metal wall laid a marking created with blood that still looks fresh. The marking resembles a crossed human eye. In other words, a Global Task Force Field Agent has already explored this area and failed to reach a safety point. The agent discovered that visual contact must be avoided with the monster.

{This is Beta-9 Commander, avoid any visual contact with the monster.}

{I repeat this is Beta-9 Commander, avoid any visual contact with the monster}

She realized that communications were jammed at this point. They now have two choices, rescue the survivor or go back to inform the other group. While the mission is always treated as a priority, losing the operation commander is certainly isn't a good thing.

"Lieutenant Danielle, take two men with you and inform Operations Command about our findings."

"But Ma'am, it won't be safe to proceed with just"

"This is an order Lieutenant. If we fail now, think about the consequences."

"Understood. Agent Karen and Agent Jerry, on me."

""10-4""

When Danielle's team was quite far away from Ruth's already, the ground started to shake and a small announcement was made throughout the sewers.

[Warning: Toxic level has raised to an all-high of 70% lethality suddenly. Access to the main sewer block has been blocked to prevent further contamination.]

{Just keep going, we'll handle this}

{Good luck Captain}

Danielle and her team found the staircase not long after, but there was a big shadow being reflected on the water by a lamp. Danielle gave her men the warning signal to approach carefully and activate the scramble gear. The scramble gear is a visual device resembling a Nightvision created to block direct vision with hostile entities. The shadow, however, wasn't moving at all, as if it was dead already.

''Should I take out the thermal vision?''

'' Don't you idiot, the Field Commander has directly told you not to.''

'' Are you going to trust that young man over me? ''

'' He surely looks more knowledgeable than you. Just follow orders and be done with this.''

When an officer says that already, it means there is no more room for debate. The team carefully move towards the staircase, only to find a dead body. The corpse was heavily mutilated, including the uniform. Based on the uniform it was wearing, it must be a GTF Field Agent. On his right hand, he was squeezing a radio talk. Since they could obtain the last message, Danielle told Agent Jerry, who was the most specialized engineer in the team to check it out. The loop message contains shocking discovery!

[ This is GTF Field Agent Herman, ID 12/2014, CODE BLACK! Further investigation on the sewer is impossible but I know something, don't you look it on the eyes or make too much noise, it's nothing like the stories. It's way much worse, oh God, arg...]

The message ended there. While it was short, they all got the message. There was a high-ranking monster in the sewer. But wait, how come they did not see this body previously? It was at that moment that the sound of water splash and loud footsteps can be heard getting louder each second. The agents are new on the job, so Danielle had them calmed down.

'' Remember the message, stay calm.''

The agents know they have no choice, escape is impossible since whatever is approaching them is running at a way faster speed. Recalling the content of the message, they closed their eyes and shut their mouths. The water splash and footsteps stopped. They all can hear the loud breath of the monster, it was scary like hell. The monster was patrolling the area to check the suspicious loud sound that had just occurred. Finding nothing, it returned to its nest.

"That was scary as shit. I swear I almost pee on my pants."

"Couldn't agree more Jerry. What now Lieutenant?"

"You two continue to head for the surface, I'm going back."

"But it's too dangerous, there is only one way now, which is that monster's den."

"It's the only way to get them back. Now go!"
