“Hey, you two, put your shoes on before you go out.”

Li Xiu’e asked her kids to put on shoes first. She then carried the baby girl out of the room and closed the doors and windows.

The family followed the baby bird, got out of the courtyard wall, and went into the mountain forest. They walked the winding and rugged mountain road for less than 100 meters. The baby bird leading the way flew down from the branches and landed in front of an inconspicuous mound.

In the withered and yellow weed clump in front of the mound, there were a few small, shriveled berries about the size of soybeans. No one would notice the inconspicuous wild fruits if people were not looking for something here. And they would never find that there was something precious under the fruits.

The little bird flew into the grass, picked up the shriveled berries, and swallowed them one by one. Then its dark eyes lit up with excitement.

The fruit of a hundred-year-old ginseng was undoubtedly an excellent tonic for the newborn bird.

The little girl pointed at the soil under the small berries with her fair and tender finger.

“Let me see what she is pointing at.”

Su Hu squatted down and pulled away the grass. He grabbed the soil with his big rough hands and lifted it to the tip of his nose to smell.

The soil was stained with morning dew. It was moist and soft. It smelt no different from ordinary days.

Seeing that he failed to understand the truth, the little bird jumped forward, throwing away the soil with its sharp beak, which revealed the roots hidden under the grass.

“Su Hu, she doesn’t want you to smell the earth. There is something underneath.”

Li Xiu’s suddenly understood the meaning of the baby bird. She then said, “Try to dig.”

“Okay!”

Su Hu blushed. He seemed to be kind of embarrassed and scratched the back of his head. He just smiled at Li Xiu’e.

He went up the mountain to cut firewood, hunt, and do rough work all year round. His big hands were as hard as iron hooks.

After pulling up the dry grass in the way, he used both hands. And soon, he made two pits of different depths on both sides of the rhizome, which revealed the ginseng rooted in the soil.

“What? Qiaoqian, give me a hand. I feel kind of weak now.”

Li Xiu’e watched as the ginseng gradually came into her sight, and her heart beat faster. She felt dizzy and almost couldn’t stand steadily.

“Mother, be careful.”

Qiaoqiao hurriedly stepped forward and held her mother’s arm.

“Qiaoqiao, you are fast. Go home and get a shovel.”

Su Hu put on a serious look. He looked up at his elder daughter, who was sensible and told her, “And I need some baskets. Bring them together. Don’t talk to strangers when you meet them on your way. Don’t tell anyone that your parents are here.”

“Well, I know.”

Qiaoqiao nodded, let go of her mother’s arm, and ran down the mountain.

“God bless us. Thank God for giving us a lovely and blessed daughter.”

Li Xiu’e calmed down and hugged the baby girl, who was giggling in her arms. She suddenly felt blessed and realized something. She put her hands together and bowed toward the Foshou Temple.

“Give the baby a name.”

Su Hu stopped digging and looked up at his wife gently. “Since we have decided to adopt her, we are a family. We must give her a name.”

“Well, it’s time to think of a name for the baby girl.”

Li Xiu’e looked at her husband’s gentle eyes and felt really happy inside. She held the baby girl in her arms and liked her more.

“Since it is God’s gift to us, let’s call her Godgift.”

Su Hu remembered his wife’s words of gratitude just now. Suddenly, he said those words with a happy smile.

Hell no!

It was a terrible name!

The baby girl and the baby bird trembled simultaneously and shook their heads together.

“What a lousy name you came up with. Not a chance we are naming her that. ”

Li Xiu’e could not help laughing when she looked at the baby girl and the baby bird. “No girl would like to be called that.”
