“Yes, I have video proof here. This was taken by the CCTV at my house’s entrance.” Gu Yuwei straightened her back and took out her mobile phone from her pocket. She clicked open the video clip on the spot and played it for Old Master Xia.

In the video, Xia Roulin looked around her surroundings sneakily before knocking on the door in front of her. It was Gu Yuwei who opened the door and she closed the door after Xia Roulin entered the house.

Xia Roulin opened her eyes wide to stare at Gu Yuwei. She was upset that she didn’t check her surroundings properly.

“Grandpa, this girl has mental issues. I pitied her and so I went to help her. I didn’t expect her to be mad over money. Now she turned against me and wanted to blackmail me.”

Xia Roulin’s mind was thinking very quickly. She immediately said, “Beichen-ge, Grandpa, you have to trust me. Someone must have set a meticulous scheme to frame me.” When Xia Roulin said this, she was looking at Xia Weilan.

“Grandpa, see. This girl was acting like a mad person just now, but now she doesn’t seem mad anymore. There’re lots of flaws in this.” Xia Roulin glanced at Old Master Xia who was silent but imposing, requesting his help. Her eyes flickered with sincerity and resent. She looked just like a pitiful little white rabbit.

Old Master Xia’s resolute heart started to sway. “I’ll investigate this matter properly.”

“I have a better idea.” Mo Beichen suddenly said.

Xia Roulin glanced at Mo Beichen. A trace of anxiety flashed across her eyes. She gulped subconsciously.

“What sort of idea?” Old Master Xia asked gloomily.

At this moment, the sound of a dog barking was suddenly heard from the door. A civil police came in with a dog.

“Ah…Get lost! Stay away from me.” Xia Roulin was startled by the dog that suddenly rushed over. She immediately jumped onto the chair, looking very pitiful.

“Miss Xia, don’t be scared. This dog is searching for the scent of the hostage. It was just trying to distinguish the scent. It won’t bite anyone.” The civil police immediately explained.

“Woof-woof…” The hound made a few circles around Xia Roulin and then dashed straight to the garden as if it had discovered something.

“Looks like we’ll be able to find the hostage soon.” Mo Beichen said meaningfully as he glanced outside the door. He lifted his leg and walked outside.

“Let’s go. Doesn’t Miss Xia want to prove her innocence? Just follow them and have a look, the truth shall be told.”

The few people in the living room all went outside. Xia Roulin who almost burst into tears had no choice but to follow them. She was walking at the very last and she sneakily sent out a message.

The hound went past the garden and ran outside from the backyard. It eventually sniffed at the door of an abandoned warehouse in the Xia Residence and barked.

The civil police pushed open the door and the hound dashed inside excitedly.

“Grandpa, this…” Xia Roulin didn’t expect that that silly dog would really come here. Luckily, she had already sent a message to Jin Mao to get him to evacuate.

She pretended to ask in surprise, “Isn’t this our old abandoned warehouse?”

Old Master Xia glanced at Xia Roulin. Without batting an eyelid, he lifted his leg and went inside.

Gu Yuwei grabbed Xia Weilan’s arm anxiously and asked in a soft voice, “Is my brother going to be alright?”

“He’ll be fine. Let’s go inside.”

As soon as Xia Weilan finished her words, she went inside.

The sound of the hound barking was suddenly heard. Everyone hurried their footsteps. By the time they were able to see the surrounding clearly, the civil police had already rescued the hostage.

Gu Yunuo pointed at Jin Mao who was unconscious on the floor.

He said furiously, “Police officer, this is the man who had kidnapped me. He just finished eating and had fainted. You have to lock him up quick.”

Gu Yunuo looked haggard with his clothes all torn. It was obvious that he had been locked for a few days.

“Brother!” Gu Yuwei immediately rushed over and hugged him.

“Sis, I knew you’d be coming over to save me.” Although Gu Yunuo looked pitiful, his expression was resolute.

Xia Roulin was hiding behind the door, not daring to step inside. The ease on her face had already fallen apart, the calmness that she had previously was no longer to be found.

“Ah…” The young man saw Xia Roulin. He shouted excitedly, “It’s her! This lady is his partner! Catch her, quick!”

Xia Roulin staggered and fled hastily.

Old Master Xia followed his gaze, only to see Xia Roulin’s fleeing. A sense of depression gushed into his heart, “Cough~cough~cough…This wicked girl!”

Old Master Xia suddenly coughed furiously and his coughing sound became extremely hoarse.

“Grandpa…” Xia Weilan immediately ran toward him in concern.

Old Master Xia opened his eyes wide and stared in the direction of the door. The veins on his face popped. He shut his eyes and suddenly fainted.

In an instant, the sound of everyone crying in surprise was heard across the old abandoned warehouse.

Mo Beichen quickly took Old Master Xia into the car and sped to the hospital. Xia Weilan was very worried. She only managed to tell Gu Yuwei to cooperate with the police on the investigation and went away with Mo Beichen.

In the hospital, the medical team was already waiting for Old Master Xia and they quickly rushed him into the emergency room. Thankfully, it was nothing serious.

The doctor quickly informed them, “The patient was too anxious. He needed to meditate for a period of time.”

“Thank you, doctor.” Xia Weilan let out a sigh of relief. At the same time, she suddenly recalled that Gu Yuwei was still alone at the police station.

“Don’t worry. I had already arranged Xu Wei to go over to the police station. He’ll take care of it.” Mo Beichen saw her worries and comforted her.

Xia Weilan let out a sigh of relief and said emotionally, “Thank you.”

Shortly after, Old Master Xia regained consciousness in the hospital ward. His face was a little pale, and it seemed as if he had suddenly aged a lot.

“Cough~cough~cough…I had long figured out that evil creature’s heart was impure. But I never expected that she would be this cruel…Cough~cough, she did it again and again…” Old Master Xia scolded the moment he regained consciousness.

Xia Weilan quickly patted Old Master Xia’s back to tame down his anger. “Grandpa, you need to calm down. Your health is the most important thing now.”
Old Master Xia shut his mouth, but he was furious. He turned around to stare at Xia Weilan.

" "

Suddenly, a sense of guiltiness washed through his heart.

“My child, tell Grandpa, did that evil creature do anything to you? Did she frame you?”

Old Master Xia put on a compassionate and pitiful look. “I didn’t take good care of you. When I took you home back then, I thought that I could provide you with something to lean on. I never expected that you will be suffering as such.”

“Grandpa,” Mo Beichen walked in and continued, “You’ve already passed Weilan to me. I’ll take good care of her. You can be rest assured of that.”

It’s rare for Mo Beichen to be speaking so much.

“Okay,” Old Master Xia’s spirit was slightly lifted. “You’ve finally got the hang of it now.”

Mo Beichen was tall and slender like a carved statue. He resumed his usual cold and silent character as if the promises just now were not from him.

“Stubborn as an old stump.” Old Master Xia couldn’t hold back his comment.
